The Summer House

Hidden away on Onekama's secluded Portage Point, The Summer House offers 50 feet of lake frontage and incredible views from a sheltered corner of Portage Lake. In this spot on a quiet street near North Point Park, you can spend your days swimming in the shallow bay and launching your kayaks and canoes from the dock.

Grab a cup of coffee from the fully appointed kitchen and step outside onto the deck to watch the morning sunrise. Enjoy barbecue picnics in the backyard as you watch the kids fish from the dock, then settle down for the evening around the firepit for a few toasted marshmallows. Please note that this property does not have A/C.

Things to know
Two dogs are welcome for a nightly fee
Please be aware that this home lies in a flood area and occasionally has standing water in the yard after heavy rainfall. The owners raised the waterfront portion of the yard and installed a dirt driveway in 2019 to make your stay more enjoyable, but rising water levels and storms that drop several inches of water at a time still leave large puddles in the roadside yard.
Onekama Township recently created a Short Term Rental Ordinance; please respect this Ordinance so this home can continue to help your family make vacation memories.

If you are bringing a dog on your trip, the pet fee is already included in your quote when selecting ‘Yes’ to pets. If you would like to add more dogs, please contact us.

Damage waiver: The total cost of your reservation for this Property includes a nightly damage waiver fee, plus tax if applicable (the “Damage Waiver”). (A discount may be applied for stays of 28 nights or longer, if permitted.) The Damage Waiver covers you for up to $3,000 of accidental damage to the Property or its contents (such as furniture, fixtures, and appliances) as long as you report the incident to the host prior to checking out. The Damage Waiver fee eliminates the need for a traditional security deposit.

Due to local laws or HOA requirements, guests must be at least 21 years of age to book. Guests under 21 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for the duration of the reservation.

Great lake house

Really enjoyed the lake front property views and fire pit. This house comfortably slept 4 guys in a golf trip. Great amenities and super helpful neighbors. We had some issues with the plumbing but other then that I’ll be back next time I’m in the area.

Love the location the house/cabin was nice. I did notice an issue with wiring with some strip lighting above the counter where the switch and outlet are tied to the same feed that should be addressed for sure. We try to start the furnace to take the chill out of the air and was overwhelmed with a sulfur smell. I was concerned about carbon monoxide so we opened the windows. The property owner should get that checked. Fortunately the temperature was pleasant so the furnace was not turned back on. Beautiful property on the lake, however.

Quiet hours

Quiet hours posted within the house say 11pm You sent me two different emails, one saying 9pm another saying 10pm. Need to have a consistent time listed for this property. Thanks

Great location, issues with vacasa

Loved the location. Beautiful lakefront, some walking paths close by, close to lake michigan and friendly neighbors. It was a warm week and we needed every fan we brought. The bathroom could have been cleaner and toilet needed fixed regularly by us as it was not working properly. Deck needs to be checked for wasps. Property management company was not responsive to our issues and questions. Overall, house was as advertised and we had a fun week with family.

Highly do not recommend staying here

The house was a disaster. The kitchen was a mess, mold in the shower, blinds held together by a trash bag, toilet paper holder ripped off the wall. There was rotten trash in the bottom of the trash can, pots and pans were filthy. Windows looked like they have never been washed, nothing dusted. Do not stay here, paid way too much for that horrible of a place.

Nice place, but...

In general a pleasant place. But, the maintenance on the house was very poor. Broken window shades, windows that wouldn’t open and very dirty, stained dining room rug. Burned out light bulbs, towel ring and toilet paper holder falling off of wall. BBQ was so full of grease that it caught fire and sent out plumes of black smoke. Whoever is cleaning/maintaining the place is NOT doing their job.

Great location, but that's about all

We loved the location on the lake, but that was about it. There were notes on the shower and toilet about high water so limit the use of water. You felt like you were rushing to shower and once every made it through the shower you realized there was a leak in the corner of the shower. There were not sheets for the Murphy bed. Ran out of propane gas before the burgers were even done cooking. Trying to figure out what control went for what fan and getting windows open to get a breeze through the house was a struggle with it being an old house. The lighting within the place is not great so trying to play games at night or just sitting to eat dinner felt like you were in the dark most of the time. Overall the house was underwhelming.

Very disappointed

The property and area was great. We were able to dock our boat and also fish off the docks. The house however was not at all clean. The window screens were full of bugs. The ceiling fans were so covered in dust we would not have used them even if they worked. Which they did not. The water smells so horrible we did not shower all weekend and had to buy water for cooking and drinking. The fridge was full of crumbs and dirt as well as the cupboards. The bathroom was not clean either. There was dirt on top of the sink and toilet. Some of the furniture is also broken and needs replaced. Probably will not stay there again. We also sent pictures to Vacasa at there request, but received no solution. If you do stay here plan on cleaning when you get there and take your own water.

Excellent stay

Excellent location. House was very clean when we arrived. We really enjoyed our stay there. Everything we needed was provided. Having the private dock was wonderful. I would come back and highly recommend. The only thing I would change would be a new toilet in the bathroom.

Quiet stay

Very well equipped vacation rental. Everything you could need is there. However the Wi-Fi name on the app is incorrect. Thankfully the Wi-Fi was written on the back of the modem.
