What a wonderful place! Our family of four (kids age 11 and 8) had a glorious time exploring the island, finding the teepee, reading in the hammocks and many chairs set about in perfect spots, catching rock bass off the different docks, paddling the canoe over to check out the beaver lodge across the small bay, and exploring the larger Bay in the easy-to-run motorboat. We were there in early July so the water was cold—and the sauna helped warm us up before and after a leap off the diving board.
The kitchen has everything you need to cook, particularly to bake--including cookbooks, baking pans, a KitchenAid mixer, food processor, blender—as well as a deep fryer, ice cream maker, milkshake machine! We had fun using the pizza oven for both pizza and baguette, and grilled on the large gas barbecue. We ate mostly on the deck, overlooking the water. Maybe because it has been a dry season, there were surprisingly few mosquitoes, even in the evening.
The cottage and sleep cabins were clean, and beds were comfortable, with nice cotton linens. A good washing machine and dryer made life easier, and the shower is hot and water pressure good. This is classic Canadian cottaging, where you spend most of your time outdoors, but the buildings make it easy to cook, wash, sleep, and shelter from the wind, rain and sun when you need to.
John was welcoming, helpful and available over the phone for troubleshooting and advice about day trips, but also let us feel the place was ours for the week. He clearly loves this place—and also loves to share it. We felt more like members of the family than paying guests. Thank you, John, for a wonderful family vacation!
