Lone Mountain Retreat is ideally located in the Mountain Village area of Big Sky Resort. We offer a top 1% ski-in/out experience combined with walkability to Mountain Village restaurants, shops, activities & services. We are located right next to the new Explorer Gondola, providing our guests with the best access on the mountain. The condo itself is a spacious, newly-remodeled corner unit with beautiful views and abundant light. The kitchen and living areas are fully equipped and designed for family dinners and movie nights, while the three exterior decks and private hot tub make enjoying the outdoors easy in any season.

But, we are not only about winter! Lone Mountain Retreat can be enjoyed in any season. Our location in Mountain Village offers effortless access to Big Sky’s year-round experiences—just a 5-minute walk to scenic lift access for hiking, mountain biking, and the Kircliff Observatory, as well as outdoor concerts, ziplining, and other mountain adventures. Within minutes, guests can reach the Town Center, the Gallatin River for fly fishing and whitewater rafting, Big Sky’s award-winning golf course, horseback riding, and an extensive network of iconic trails. Lone Mountain Retreat also serves as an ideal base for day trips to Yellowstone, Bozeman, and the historic mining towns of Virginia City and Nevada City.

Whether you’re seeking outdoor adventure, wildlife viewing, or a quieter mountain escape, Lone Mountain Retreat provides a seamless balance of activity and relaxation. A full-size private SUV is available to rent at a discounted rate, and we’re always happy to assist with planning a personalized Montana itinerary.

Our family loved our time at this amazing spot right next to the base at Big Sky. The accommodations were cozy, accessible and super convenient given the location. We skied in/out every day. Our hosts were the best. Very responsive and on top of everything throughout our stay.Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Can’t wait to come back soon!

Beautiful condo with a perfect location to access the Mountain Village base of Big Sky. The kitchen had all the gadgets and small appliances we needed, so we ate in a few times. The host Shannon was very friendly and informative, and easily reachable. Would definitely rent this place again!

Amazing rental and location

Great host and property. Location is right on the trail as described and will be even better next year when the new Gondola is finished. Will stay here again

Wonderful Cozy Condo in Perfect Location!

This condo was wonderful! The rooms were spacious, extremely comfortable & well laid out. The amenities within the condo were wonderful. The place was cozy and clean and we could not have asked for a better TRUE ski-in, ski-out location. Just walk out the garage and a few steps to the run that you can hop on to get to the base! Shannon was super responsive & easy to communicate with. We would 1000% stay here again and would recommend this condo to anyone looking for a wonderful place to stay in Big Sky!!

Our group of 4 had everything we needed at this beautiful condo. Impressively supplied kitchen! The entire condo was comfy and amazingly close to getting on the ski runs (both in and out). We did not take advantage of the hot tub or sauna, but plan to do so on our next stay. Super easy check in and check out as well. The only thing we need for next time is some kindling. Despite the fire starters, the neighborhood firewood supply had nothing but big logs, which proved to be nearly impossible for starting a fire in the fireplace. Such a minor thing compared to the beauty and luxury of this condo!

Fantastic ski trip in Big Sky, Montana!

Our stay Lone Mountain Retreat in Big Sky was outstanding from start to finish. The condo itself was spotless, beautifully maintained, and incredibly comfortable—it was easy to relax and feel at home right away. The beds were especially comfortable, which made a big difference after long days on the mountain. The updated kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed, whether for a quick breakfast before skiing or a full dinner at night. Surprisingly, one of our favorite features was the garage! It was such a convenient and appreciated bonus for storing our skis and keeping our car out of the snow! The location truly couldn’t be beat. Being right on the slopes made everything better, from quick access in the morning to breaks during the day. Despite the prime location, it was also quiet and peaceful, making it a great place to unwind. With three bedrooms, it’s an excellent option for families or groups looking for both space and comfort. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay and would absolutely come back again. Highly recommend to anyone looking for comfort, convenience, and an unbeatable ski-in/ski-out experience!

Amazing place!

If you are considering other places, stop! Just book Lone Mountain. The host is awesome and catered to every need from babies to grandparents to ski rentals to family activities! This a beautiful place, right on the slopes for ski in and ski out, super convenient and perfectly situated…even for those not skiing…to look out on the slopes!

We had a wonderful long weekend at Lone Mountain Retreat! Shannon was the best host and her place was amazing. The ski in/ ski out was such a treat. Can't say enough about this experience. We will definitely be back- maybe in the summer!

Wonderful stay in a great location

Lone Mountain Retreat was perfect for our family of 6! The house was well stocked and had everything we needed for a week of skiing, cooking and relaxing. Small touches like the charging stations next to each bed, espresso machine and coffee grinder and signed in streaming apps made the stay extremely smooth. The family loved relaxing in the hot tub at the end of the day. Great communication by the owner!

Lovely Getaway

What a lovely condo in the perfect location to ski in/ski out at Big Sky. It was so elegant, and at the same time we felt cozy and comfortable, certainly at home. The attention to detail was evident, from the wonderful comforters and blankets on the bed to the plush towels, full kitchen and fancy coffee maker! After a great day of skiing, the hot tub was amazing! We can’t wait to go back there again!

Amazing!

We had a wonderful stay. Everything was super clean, the place has comfortable beds and nice furniture. The kitchen had everything we needed for the nights we stayed in and cooked. Beautiful views and easy access for ski-in ski-out. And we parked our car in the garage which was super convenient. This was probably the best VRBO we have stayed at over the years. We will be back!

Great Location. Nice Condo, quiet!

Great ski in ski out. Beautiful view of the ramcharger lift and the runs near ramcharger. The kids enjoyed watching the snow groomers at night from the window. Snow was a little lower than usual, so we walked about 200 feet to the nearest run, but were able to ski back to within 50 feet of the house. Well kept, clean. Beautiful. We were amazed how quiet it was.

Ideal location for a group ski trip

We had a group of 3 couples for a ski week in Big Sky. The condo is truly ski-in ski-out, located right next to Mountain Village. And if you stay to apres, its a short walk back with the option to take a quick shuttle that drops you practically next to the condo. The communal space was very cozy and featured a wood fireplace. The rooms were comfortable, and the hot tub on the back deck with a view of the mountains was the cherry on top.Shannon was an amazing host; always very responsive and helpful. We will absolutely look to stay here again on future trips.

Family Road Trip

The location and view were outstanding. The layout afforded our group of eight the ability to spread out, play games, congregate around the kitchen table or in the great room. The resort and the town of Big Sky offered everything we needed for or travels. While we visited Yellowstone National Park during our stay and could have stayed closer to the park, we wanted to be in an area which afforded us the opportunity to relax and be away from all the other travelers. This was an outstanding choice for us.

Lone Mtn Retreat

Lone Mtn Retreat is wonderful! Very cozy, warm and comfortable! Steps, perhaps 30 from a run that takes you to the lift and onto the mountain. Shannon is a great host! She provided tons of info regarding restaurants, groceries and activities available, really made our stay memorable! She was also very accessible with any other questions. All in all, can't wait to go back!

Beautiful Home

What a beautiful home that we will want to return to. My family unfortunately got stuck in CO and only enjoyed 2 nights. . . 1 day in the home. It was spectacular day and night. The home was cozy, warm, well decorated and very clean.

Awesome Big Sky Condo!

We are a family of five that stayed here for 3 nights while visiting our son for his Spring Break. The condo was easy to find, easy to access & clean upon arrival. Our kids ages 11-19 had never experienced ski in/ski out and absolutely loved it! Beds & couches we comfy...plenty of room for everyone. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the sunshine after skiing, and then moving to the hot tub on the back deck when the sun went down. Easy walk to the base with lots of shops & restaurants. Shannon was an amazing host. She checked in with us to make sure we got got settled in ok, was very responsive if we had any questions, and offered suggestions of fun things to do in the area. Super fun trip! Kids rated it top 5 family vacations! We'll definitely be back.

We are former Montanans with over 20 years of experience in the Big Sky area. We began skiing there in 2003 and purchased Lone Mountain Retreat in 2005 because we fell in love with the area and all the amazing outdoor opportunities. Our four children learned to ski on the gentle green slopes right outside our door, beginning at the young age of 2-3 and eventually mastering the slopes and lay of the land. Over the years, we have rented and shared Lone Mountain Retreat with many families, mostly through word of mouth or personal connection. As long-term owners, we can offer our guests a great deal of useful advice regarding skiing, other activities, restaurants, nearby attractions, etc. Over the past 20 years, we have had the opportunity to do it all, and we will do our very best to help you plan for a truly awesome, individualized experience.

Our location in Big Sky Resort is exceptional. We offer an easy ski-in/out experience throughout the season combined with the ability to walk to Mountain Village and enjoy restaurants, shops, and other amenities. A car is not required for guests staying at our property. The combination of true ski-in/out for all levels of skiers and easily walkable access to resort amenities is rare in Big Sky. The addition of the new Explorer Gondola with expanded terrain access (2026) and upcoming plans for the mid-way station ski school and other amenities will improve things even further, making this a truly easy way for families to enjoy skiing together.
