Unreliable Host - property booked was not available
DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS HOST! He does not follow through on bookings and commitments. After sending a message to host the day prior to our scheduled check-in, no response received. With VRBO’s help host finally contacted us on day of check-in to let us know that the property was not available, but he had another “really nice” property that would meet our needs. We had booked a newly built 3B3B home on a golf course and we reluctantly settled for 3 Zermatt Resort “Villas” rooms, which were really nothing more than hotel rooms. At the time we accepted the alternate property, the host committed to giving us a discount.
The units at Zermatt Resort were older and had some issues; ie: leaking shower/toilet, non-latching bathroom door. We did complete our stay and expected the refund promised. After weeks of messages back and forth with the host. He backed out of commitment of a discount.
VRBO tried to help, but since the offer was made via text messages directly and not on the VRBO platform, there was little they could do for us.
The host did not follow through on his responsibilities as a host by not having a property that was booked months before available for us or at least notifying us that the property was no longer available prior to day of arrival. And then he committed to a discount and backed out of his offer.
