Disappointing stay — Great location, but severely lacking maintenance for 640/night. We stayed here 8 years ago and loved it, but this stay fell far short of expectations. Pros: Excellent Vilano Beach location and plenty of quality towels. Cons: Cleanliness was superficial (cobwebs on shelves, filthy balcony windows, green mold on bathroom skylights). The house had a strong musty smell on arrival. The main sink and a shower were clogged (we had to use drain opener ourselves), and the secondary shower was broken and leaking everywhere. Both indoor and outdoor trash bins were full from previous guests—guests shouldn't have to deal with previous renters' trash or excuses. For safety, the entrance light didn't work (leaving stairs pitch black) and a smoke detector beeped continuously due to low batteries. Outside, the deck and outdoor shower are in deplorable condition. Burned-out lights in the oven and range hood were minor nuisances compared to the rest. Management needs to inspect and maintain the home properly instead of making excuses.

The location absolutely could not be beat for what we wanted to get out of our vacation. The beach view is priceless, and the entire beach area was so private! The house was absolutely full of nostalgic charm, and I loved both the vintage details and the modern touches. We wanted to have a place where we could wake up to the sunrise over the water, and spend the day on the beach until we were ready to do some touristy things in the historic areas of St. Augustine. Nearly all of the main attractions were within 10-15 minutes, and the drive there was beautiful. As a bonus, there was a Publix and a local coffee shop within just a few minutes of the house, so we were both away from the newer tourist area and had access to the niceties that make a home away from home feel more homey. :)I was a little nervous reading a recent review of the property where the reviewer stated that the house should be torn down. However, once I arrived I realized that that visitor clearly didn't look at the post ahead of time and wasn't looking for a place that felt like it had belonged there for decades. Any place this close to the water is going to need lots of upkeep, but I'd never expect a place with this charm and true vintage style to be perfect... it's neither possible or expected. Even when there were a few hiccups with our stay, the owners were responsive and it didn't hurt our stay at all.I'd absolutely stay here again & would recommend it to anyone looking for a place to get away!

This was a nice little MCM home built in the 50s. Overall everything was functional and the views of the beach were excellent. The deck on the back of the house leading to the beach is in rough shape. I got a splinter pretty easily on the first day and after that we always wore sandals or shoes back there.The house is advertised with a 'Tesla Charger' which is not accurate. The house does have a dedicated circuit to bring your own charger and plug in which is nice. Because Tesla makes a charger for homes I did not bring any type of travel charger. Luckily FPL had a charging station down by the Publix we used when we arrived and left. This was our first trip with an EV so the charger was actually one of the reasons we rented the home (besides the location/view).This is a good beach bungalow for a smaller family or party with direct beach access which was great. We spent many hours at the beach when the weather cooperated The views are phenomenal but it needs just a few tweaks to make it truly excellent.

1 star house - 5 star locationHouse has lived its best life and should now be demolished and something proper built. This location deserves so much better than this dilapidated mess.

Location was excellent, right on the beach. We felt like we had our own private beach. House sits above beach level so privacy on the deck and front rooms was great. It's on a busy street but when out on the deck or on the beach you would never know it. There is some construction going on the street which would have been nice to know when we booked. Made getting out of the driveway a little dicey. But overall we really enjoyed our stay.

The good: The house is in an amazing location and the beach is semi private so it is a great place to just relax and enjoy the environment. It is also close to grocery and downtown for shopping, restaurants and activities. The kitchen is nice and large with pretty much everything you would need. The beds are comfy and the two decks are fun to sit and relax. Nice place to walk the beach.The not so good. The house can be difficult to find esp if you arrive at night bc there is no street # to identify it. There is only a tiny dim light at the top of the landing of the front stairs making it difficult to navigate. We had to use a flashlight. The railing next to stairs inside is very wobbly. The electric lock on the front door didn't work so we had to use a key. Inside the house a lot of the lighting doesn't work and there is nothing to indicate what switches control what lights as there are many switches. Some furniture is dirty/needs replacing such as the two chairs in the great room that have massive stains on them and the chairs at the tall kitchen table are pretty worn. In both areas they look very water stained from people possibly sitting in them with wet clothes. The pictures in the listing are also some what misleading. The beautiful rock stairs at the bottom of some of the pictures are not there. This was one of the main reasons we booked so we were disappointed. The flooring is damaged and has soft spots in places. We were warned about this just before arriving.

The host went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. The immediate access to such a lovely part of the beach is delightful. We especially enjoyed the sleeping porch and listening to the ocean as we fell asleep and woke up. We will come back!

We had an absolutely amazing time at this beach house. The home had everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. The kitchen had great cooking supplies, the beds were super comfortable, and the living spaces were bright and open with stunning ocean views.The location couldn’t have been better - just steps from the beach! We loved sitting out on the deck in the mornings with coffee and winding down in the evenings listening to the waves. The hosts were also wonderful to communicate with - responsive, thoughtful, and welcoming.

2025 St. Augustine Family vacation

The property was absolutely perfect for what we were looking for. It's in a beautiful location and loved being able to walk off the back porch onto the sand. There's only one small flaw with the house - and I'm only mentioning it because it could be a safety hazard for someone. There are a couple of loose boards in the dining room area. It feels like the floor has rotted in that area and it's caving in. I am attaching pictures for reference. It wasn't a problem for us as we just avoided waking in that area but don't want the next guests to get hurt. We will definitely be looking for this same property when we come back to St. Augustine.

Hey Amy, This is Jennifer, the owner of the property. We had a guest who decided to turn on the central bathtub and forgot about it. May have even gone to dinner?! Not sure but it ruined my floor. It has been booked and we have made sure it’s not going anywhere or dangerous and we plan to fix it during our down time. We have not had much down time this year so September will be our month. I have some 1950’s matching floor, too. So it’s not rotten, it has water damage. Our guest never let us know what happened either. The cleaning people were actually let go because they couldn’t tell us which client did it. I have almost taken it off the market because of issues such as these. It’s sad, I try to take care of other people’s property as if it was my own, some just don’t. Sorry you had to deal with it, Jennifer

A wonderful house on the beach.

It’s quiet, a perfect location, and no crowds due to limited public access to the beach. A mere few minutes to Publix for all your grocery needs, and a short drive to many attractions in St. Augustine. Loved being able to walk out the door on to the beach. We took morning and evening walks. We’ll return to the house on our next trip.

Thank you so much. it’s really my personal beach house. I rent it when i’m not around. The black and white photo over the staircase is my grandmother from the 1930’s. it’s a great relaxing spot, glad you enjoyed her! she was built in 1955.

Had a great time

Amazing location and view. I’ve been to many beach front houses and this location tops it all. 5 steps down and you’re on the beach. House is old but its got nice charm to it and is beautiful. We found no bugs at all so that was very nice.We loved this house so much it made us sad to leave. Two suggestions would make this house even better.1. So many light/fan switches it was very confusing. It would be nice if they were labeled.2. Charcoal grill was broken. Thats a must.

Beach Stay

The location in combination with the cost is great. The house however is not great. The overhead garage door does not lock so you will need to make sure the door with the deadbolt is locked. Once you get into the main door you need to be careful because the floor boards are either rotted out from water or termite damage. One can easily fall through the floor. The house is very choppy. Bedrooms all connect together. They are missing simple things. For example there is only one very small spatula. The fan in the master bathroom does not work. Lighting in the bathroom is also very bad with the non working fan light as your only light source. There is a skylight but it is covered in mildew and mold. The beach is beautiful and the sand is perfect.

Beach is steps away from back deck

Great spot on quiet Vilano Beach. Beach is very much the home's back yard; no 'process' (ex- multiple access gates, codes to remember, long walks, etc) of getting down to the sand and water. Very easy to run-up to the house, if needed, making it great for those with younger kids. House as-advertised. Would definitely stay here again.

What a perfect vacation!

Our family of five (parents and three college age adults) had a wonderful stay at this lovely house right on the beach. There was plenty of room for all of us, two bathrooms, two decks, and a great vibe. It had a vintage feel with all the updates we needed. We could enjoy the sun on the deck or go hang out on the beach, and we could even go up to the rooftop for more sunning or to watch the sunset. It really is the perfect beach house when we just wanted to hang out there, and it’s very close to good restaurants, jet skiing, kayaking, and all of the fun things to do in St. Augustine. The house was comfy and felt like our home away from home with personal touches that were very thoughtful. Thanks so much for such a wonderful spring break. We made a lot of fun memories. We’d love to stay there again!

Girls trip

The house was great. We had never been to the area so FL was new to us. The week we went there was some sort of weather front that hovered over us all week…high surfs, high wind, rain….so we never had any sand time at all…it wasn’t the place, it was the circumstances…but there was so much to do in St. Augustine that we had a wonderful time. The restaurants were all excellent, shopping was good, lots of tourist things to do, we even went and did a painting thing…so fun. We loved the cottage, it was really well equipped…they even had beach towels but we couldn’t go out. The kitchen was well equipped and it was close to Publix so we could eat at home if we choose. I would highly recommend…it was a really nice place…the weather just didn’t cooperate for us all week long.

Family Beach Get Away

Stay was great! We have never been to St Augustine and we wanted to be able to walk out onto the beach. House was clean and all had room and comfortable beds. Has all you need and a great indoor porch to read when the heat of the day kicks in. Nice and close to St Augustine downtown and a food store 2 minutes down the stream. The beach is amazingly quiet and clean and the water was perfect. Loved to see the dolphins ever morning and evening.
