The realization of Bowen Island Boutique Beach House has been a labour of love. Its owner Dr. Abe Chaiton's dream of living on Bowen Island a long time aspiration. In 1992, Abe fell in love with British Columbia having spent extended time in the province serving as a locum for resident doctors. Sailing up and down the coast to Desolation Sound, Abe was mesmerized by the west coast landscape and enlightened by the people they met on his adventures. Yet Bowen Island stood apart in his fond memories as an unspoiled Canadian gem where life’s simple treasures could be appreciated. And so, each year for ten years, he moored his sailboat, Luba, in Snug Cove, claiming temporary residence on the island, but constantly scouting for just the right spot where he could one day build his dream home.
In 2009, Abe finally found such a place, a rare property on the waterfront with its own private beach and secluded setting, perfectly embodying the spirit of Bowen Island that they fell in love with. This home, now completed and sitting proudly perched above the Salish Sea, is a simple architectural glass box that celebrates modern sensibility, and respect for art. From local furniture manufacturers, east coast folk artists, and Inuit print makers to contemporary sculptors and photographers, there’s a touch of Canadian diversity in every room.
