Charlotte village: full kitchen, king bed, views!
Our historic home is located in the center of Charlotte’s west village.
* stunning views of the Adirondacks, sunsets, and Lake Champlain
* 1,100 sq ft guest apartment has a new kitchen!
* on Champlain Bikeway
* 30-60 minutes from ski areas
* 25-minute drive to both Burlington and Middlebury
* across the street from the Old Brick (general) Store
* down the street from the Old Lantern, the ferry to NY, Lake Champlain, and Mt. Philo
* close to many restaurants, sightseeing, outdoor activities
The historic Wheeler House Guest Apartment is located in the charming west village of Charlotte, Vermont. Originally a summer kitchen for our c1805 Federal village home, the very spacious apartment boasts modern amenities and is a comfortable space for anyone to enjoy. Our year-round guest apartment is perfect for a Vermont getaway!
Original timber beams throughout bring a cozy vibe to open space. You’ll find western views of the Adirondack Mountains, sunsets, and Lake Champlain just out the back windows—especially visible in the winter or from the second floor!
FIRST FLOOR...
Our large open living space has everything you need for your home away from home.
* new kitchen with butcher-block countertops, an induction cooktop range, quiet Bosch dishwasher, Keurig coffee maker (with pods), espresso machine, toaster, microwave, stove-top hot-water kettle
* kitchen stocked with all the dishes, cookware, bakeware, knives, and utensils you would need, as well as salt/pepper, olive oil, tea, tea/coffee sweetener and powered creamer
* need a unique tool for cooking?—just ask as we probably have it in our main house!
* dining table and comfortable seating area with smart TV and satellite
* window air conditioning unit for warmer months
* small deck with table, chairs, and umbrella just outside French doors overlooking western views of the Adirondack Mountains and Lake Champlain
SECOND FLOOR...
The vaulted ceiling in the large bedroom has the best western views in the house!
* bedroom has both a KING bed and a TWIN day bed with TWIN trundle
* located off the bedroom is a bathroom with shower stall, washer, and dryer
* plenty of towels and linens, toilet paper, shampoo/conditioner, body soap, hand soap, toothbrush/toothpaste, razor/shaving cream, laundry detergent sheets
* for baby and toddler bathing, we provide a Stokke Flexi Bath Bundle with optional Newborn Support to use in our shower with detachable shower head
* window air conditioning unit for warmer months
* ceiling fan will keep the air moving all year
* desk in the hall at the top of the stairs
OUTDOOR SPACE...
Our three-acre property is a series of pastures and hills with scattered trees and gardens.
* down the hill a bit is a flat area for picnics
* no pesticides are used on the property!
* you’ll find a massive blackberry patch ready to pick in late July or early August
* enjoy sage, mint, and whatever other herbs might be growing out your backdoor for cooking (just ask if you want to find them).
* our sledding hill is epic!
* the backyard space just to the left of the guest apartment, our gardens, and are driveway are always a work in progress—they are not perfect!
* the house is located along a ridge so some locations of our back yard are a steep pitch
GUEST ACCESS
Guests will have full access to the guest apartment and the three acres of grounds.
* the guest apartment has its own entrance, but that entrance shares a small, covered entry-porch with the main house
* we strive to minimize disruption to our guests when we pass through the shared porch
PARKING...
Shared guest parking is available for up to two vehicles.
* complementary shared level 2 car charger—just let us know so we can be sure it's available when you need it!
NUMBER OF GEUSTS...
The guest limit is five.
* it's best for a combination of one couple with up to three children
* it's unlikely to be comfortable for 3-5 individual adults, unless they're all very close—it has been done!
OUR FAMILY ...
We are a busy family of five!
* our children and the dog are all very friendly
* we are often coming and going but we strive to minimize any disruption to your stay
* despite sharing a wall, our guests have all said they don’t hear us (the shared wall has a guest bedroom on the owner side while the staircase and kitchen is on the guest apartment side).
OUR DOG ...
Our dog is a very playful friendly 65-lb Golden Mountain Dog.
* she loves nothing more than belly rubs and lots of love
* she’s working very hard at not jumping on new people (rarely does it); crouching down to pet her or putting your hand out toward her will prevent her from jumping
* while I love our dog, I’m not a dog person so I totally get it if you’re not; just say the word and we’ll do our best to coordinate her outdoor time when you’re not around!
HOST AVAILABILITY ...
My husband JD and I will make ourselves as available as possible to you should you need us.
* if we will be away during any part of your stay, we will let you know in advance
* a detailed house book will be made available to you which answers most questions you might have
NOISE...
Guests have always said the space is very quiet, but we want you to be aware of potential noise.
* we are located in the center of a thriving farming community, so farm vehicles of all sizes will drive by our house at any hour—day or night (especially during hay harvesting!)
* we are located on a fairly busy corner—traffic to and from a ferry will increase the noise level in the backyard
* we have our pasture mowed weekly—the landscape crew comes early to mid morning
* at any given time (mostly in the summer or weekends), you might find my husband JD on his tractor out back, our children selling lemonade, friends or family over on our back deck, or any one of us working in the gardens
AREA ATTRACTIONS...
There are many restaurants, shopping, hiking, site seeing, and more very close by!
* we are just across from the famous Old Brick Store (serving breakfast, lunch, treats, beverages)
* our neighborhood is full of historic homes
* town library, senior center, town hall, post office, and Stones Throw Pizza are less than a block away
* the boardwalk on the town loop trail is a short walk behind our house
* a vehicle will be necessary to explore beyond our small village
* upon booking, you will receive access to a comprehensive list of nearby attractions (including dining where you might need to make advance reservations)
* if you wish to know more about those attractions in advance of booking, please let us know what you're looking for!
RULES...
We try to keep our rules simple.
* we live on the property and we love our neighbors in close proximity to our house, so we don’t allow events (unless previously requested and approved)
* no pets, smoking, vaping, e-cigarettes, or firearms allowed anywhere on our property.
* for your own comfort, we recommend you remove shoes inside when there’s mud, snow, or rain outside
* we want you to enjoy your stay!
UPON DEPARTURE...
Just two things. We'll take care of the rest!
* leave the two keys
* remember to collect all of your belongings
* stunning views of the Adirondacks, sunsets, and Lake Champlain
* 1,100 sq ft guest apartment has a new kitchen!
* on Champlain Bikeway
* 30-60 minutes from ski areas

オーナーについて
オーナー : Damaris Herlihy
I am a wife, mother, and publisher. We moved to Vermont in 2018 to be closer to my sister and her family. We bought our historic home in 2021 and are slowly renovating and restoring it. We hope you enjoy our home as much as we do! … We owned and self-managed an Airbnb property on the coast of Massachusetts for two years. As a host, we were proud to maintain a perfect 5-star rating and super host status for the entire two years.
この宿泊施設のオーナーになった理由
We love living at the very center of our rural farming community.
