River cabin

It was perfect for a getaway trip: we spent our days hiking and lounging in the waterfalls. Enjoyed drinking our coffee on deck. We were met by a beautiful 5 foot rat snake. Will definitely visit again

Quiet getaway

I absolutely loved my stay at the cottage it was so private and peaceful . The property is absolutely gorgeous with plenty of room to roam outdoors. So many things to do and explore in the area. The creek in the back of the cottage is stunning and the sound so soothing. I am hoping to visit again. Wonderful place to stay !

Secluded cabin, beautiful property

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cabin at Laughing Waters. It is an idyllic setting in a beautiful forest by the creek and conveniently located near Asheville. We’ve stayed here several times and it always proves to be the perfect place to check out and relax. Each time, we leave rested and rejuvenated. The host of this property is readily available, responsive, and accommodating. The cabin itself is clean, well equipped, and charming. Helene had a tremendous impact on the community; however, the atmosphere around the cabin is better than ever. The creek is much larger and more accessible, several great spots for a creekside fire. The area around the cabin has opened up to reveal the beauty of the property. We highly recommend.

Lovely cottage in the woods

The property is perfect and has everything you need to unplug, relax and enjoy nature in its purest form. The creek running next to the cottage was beautiful and the trails surrounding the area are definitely worth checking out. I will be back!

Peaceful

It was wonderful having the stream and waterfall in the backyard. The view and the sounds really make you feel at peace. The property was great and the owners are wonderful as well.

Escape the world

We were looking for a short getaway where we could hike some and read much. We couldn't have been happier with the beautiful cabin and the wonderful sounds of the creek tumbling over the rocks in the stream bed. For short hikes, we left our car parked and could walk along the trails in either direction. A lovely place to enjoy nature!

Could not have been better.

Lived up to the reviews left by all. Host turned us on to a little private swimming hole just up the creek. Cabin itself is absolutely secluded and wonderful. Will be back.

Everything was perfect. Close to Asheville proper but completely remote feeling. Property is beautiful with ample trails nearby. Would definitely return.

Peaceful and quite cozy with a great location

Definitely the cutest and cleanest cottage i have been to. Love the location and the peace it brought us. The grounds were great and the communication with the host was amazing. We will be back for sure. Hoping for the spring.

Beautiful location, private stream & waterfall, comfy cottage.

Cottage had everything we needed, especially the full sized washer and dryer was super handy. Would have liked some newer "green pans" for cooking. Everything else was environmentally perfect.

Cabin in the woods

If you like rustic, mountainous natural settings then this is perfect for you. No TV, radio or Wi-Fi (except inside of cabin) Hiking trails galore connecting to the property, listening to the water & streams 24/7 outside your windows. Cascading rocks, vines and fresh air…comfortable bed, nice pillows, adequate kitchen for most meals. Bring your groceries and snacks. Nearest grocery about 20-30 minutes.

Great for getting out of city life

Cabin is small and quaint. Kitchen has everything you need. Property is fun to explore. The view from the porch is AMAZING!!! The sounds of the water will soothe anyone! Small things to consider: no tv, rocking chairs/futon are extremely uncomfortable and these are only places really to sit except porch chairs. Its a decent drive to grocery store so bring your stuff with you! Overall it was a great relaxing extended weekend 🙂

Quaint and Serene!

I wanted nothing more than to spend my birthday weekend in nature, but still close to Asheville to explore there as well. This cottage exceeded all expectations! Julia was quick in responses and thorough in her check-in/check-out instructions. Would definitely recommend!

We don’t feel we 'own' this land. Rather, we feel more aligned as stewards, here to protect it. We are full of wonder and awe at nature’s intricate beauty. Living here is about discovering mysteries and miracles: the springtime sprouting shoots on the forest floor, the blooming of delicate wildflowers, the soaring trees spreading green leaves in a summer canopy, the magical transformation into vibrant fall colors, and the reappearance of the distant mountain vistas in winter.

We have kept the most special places wild for all to enjoy: the cascading streams, tumbling waterfalls, sheer cliffs, and distant vistas. Residents and visitors can enjoy miles of hiking trails on our land, in the adjoining 600 acres of the Florence Nature Preserve, and down the gorge in Chimney Rock State Park.

If you love the outdoors, this is magical place!

We are deep in the heart of the Hickory Nut Gorge, a steep valley carved out of the mountains starting at the continental divide dropping down to Chimney Rock State Park and Lake Lure. From your cottage overlooking two beautiful waterfalls, you can hike up to the top of Little Bearwallow Mountain through 200 acres of natural forest with amazing views. The cottage is part of the Laughing Waters Retreat Center in Hickory Nut Forest. This sustainable eco-community includes organic gardens and apple orchard, conserved lands, renewable energy, and solar-green homes. Guests are welcome to hike, swim, bird watch, enjoy the gardens, go mountain biking, or just relax on the deck and listen to the sound of the rushing water. Enjoy dining in Chimney Rock and Lake Lure, or make your own feast in the cottage kitchen. And we are only 17 miles from all the music, restaurants and culture in Asheville.
