On A Whim - 2 BR/3BA Cozy Island House with Infinity Pool and View of Coral Bay!

Perched on a private ridge overlooking Coral Bay with easy access on a private road, this 2-bedroom and 3-bath home with a pool is the perfect home base for your St. John vacation. The 2nd bedroom has a private, exterior entrance. While there are many wonderful restaurants and bars in the area, the house has a modern kitchen and an outdoor grill for preparing home-cooked meals to be eaten in nice spaces to enjoy views of Coral Bay. You will need a 4WD vehicle (Jeep or similar vehicle) for this property. The house is a short drive to Northshore Beaches, Coral Bay restaurants, National Park Hiking Trails, and grocery store. It is a 25-minute drive to Cruz Bay. Not recommended for children under 10 years old. Must be 25 years old or older to rent this property.

Please note that the second bedroom/suite, located on the lower level, is separate from the main floor with its own entrance. Also, the pull-out bed is located in the living room, which is well-ventilated, and there is also an air conditioning unit in the living room. Both bedrooms have air conditioning units.

You will be asked to sign a rental agreement that will be due within 7 days of receipt. This agreement is uploaded here for you to see and will be emailed to you personally after booking. It is important to understand that the rental agreement and our signed approval is necessary to bind the reservation.

Please note that there is an exterior security camera for your and the property's protection located at the front of the house, facing the driveway.

Had an amazing time with family. Home is beautiful and clean and well stocked. Easy location close to coral bay and quick access to north shore beaches. Great communication with proprty manager made access a breeze.

Peaceful getaway with everything we needed

We really enjoyed our stay. The house was well organized and had everything we needed. I loved starting my day relaxing on the deck with a view of Cruz Bay and then at night the view of the stars from the pool area was amazing.

Already dreaming of returning

This was one of the absolute best stays and experiences I’ve ever had at a rental property. Communication was excellent, amenities were excellent, and the location was close to restaurants and grocery stores but also felt private. It was the perfect way to end our anniversary trip and we can’t wait to return!

Perfect view!

Perfect location, perfect home, and great communication! This is our 4th time to the island and first time staying in this area. The view was beautiful, and the location was perfect! A Wonderful and Relaxing Stay

Staying at the On a Whim house was a wonderful experience for our family. Everything you need for a comfortable stay is provided, and the extra details were much appreciated, like the weights, snorkeling gear, and coolers. The space is well laid out and very clean, and the view/location is hard to beat. Dwight, the property manager was also excellent. We ran into a water issue during our stay, and he was very quick to resolve it. We can not say enough great things about this spot and hope to visit again in the future!

Nice, updated, clean house with great views on a more secluded and quiet part of the island. Sitting on the covered outdoor patio with its views and natural breeze was delightful, so much so that we ate every meal out there. The pool was also a great place to relax (views again), especially after a beach/boating day. An updated kitchen was very helpful as well. Everything worked in the house. Overall, a very relaxing place to stay on St. John’s

Perfect vacation rental!

Dwight had outstanding communication before, during, and after our stay. House and grounds were even better than expected. Absolutely loved this place and can’t wait to return. Pool is on the north side of house and doesn’t get too warm. You can lay out in sunshine there but water isn’t the warmest. Great place!!!

Perfect anniversary getaway

Stayed here for our 10 year anniversary and it was absolutely amazing. Private and peaceful, away from the chaos of the harbor, but still within 15min of the best beaches we’ve ever been to. After a long day of hiking and beaches, the private pool was the perfect way to unwind. We will absolutely be coming back!

Beautiful spot on St John

The property is amazing and was well equipped. Check in process was easy and the property manager was responsive and engaged. Restaurants and beaches are just a short drive but the house is quiet and secluded. We will be back!

Absolutely Perfect Stay – Every Detail Thoughtfully Planned!

We had an incredible stay at this beautiful home, and it looks exactly as pictured! From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the owners have thoughtfully considered every detail to ensure a comfortable and seamless experience for their guests. The house is impeccably clean, stylishly decorated, and extremely well-equipped — truly one of the best-stocked vacation rentals we’ve ever stayed in. Whether it was the kitchen supplies, entertainment options, cozy indoor and outdoor furnishings, beach supplies, or the Bluetooth speaker system for patio and pool side music, everything you could possibly need was already there.What also sets this property apart is the care and responsiveness of Dwight, the manager. He was incredibly attentive, quick to respond to any questions, and made sure we felt completely at home throughout our stay. We loved our stay at the On The Whim property. I would definitely not stay again without having rented a vehicle. It was very costly going back and forth into town with 5 people. Overall the trip was great and the stay at the property was everything that we could hope for. Until next time….

Perfect Quiet Location

My husband and I were looking for a quiet spot near Coral Bay for our 10 year anniversary. On a Whim was perfect! The house was fully stocked with everything. The pool and view were amazing. The driveway was easy to access (in comparison to others on the island).

Get away with friends

This property has been beautifully renovated and the furnishings are lovely. I would say that the upstairs bedroom is much nicer than the downstairs bedroom. We were splitting the property with another couple and the experience wasn’t “even/fair”. With that being said, we had a great time. We just didn’t split the rental evenly. The property manager Dwight was excellent. Responsive, polite and competent.

The Perfect Vacation Home to Enjoy St. John!

What a PERFECT experience! The owners are so friendly and helpful and the property manager was fantastic. The location of the property, view, and amenities could not have been better. I was so impressed with what was provided to us - plenty of supplies so that we did not need to buy anything (dish soap, toilet paper, paper towels, etc). They also had so many items available like beach chairs, snorkles/masks/fins, beach towels, and more. We will definitely rent this home again and suggest to others we know visiting St. John.

A Perfect Vacation Home. The driveway up to the house is a little steep, but very easy to do. Check in was seamless. The property manager, Dwight, was in contact as soon as we arrived on St. Thomas with directions and check in instructions. The house was exactly as described. The balcony/patio has a great view and breeze, where we started every morning. The pool is a great size and the kids and adults loved lounging there after a day at the beach. The kitchen had everything we needed in addition to being well stocked with condiments, spices, and other cooking/coffee supplies. We enjoyed being able to grill burgers one night outside also. The beds and sofa bed were all very comfortable and we loved playing board games as a family at the big kitchen table. There were plenty of towels and beach towels, and it was so nice to have beach chairs and coolers available. The house has full a/c and was very comfortable day and night. The downstairs bedroom is detached from the upstairs (stairs are outside), but it didn't detract from the home at all and gave a little extra privacy. It was nice, comfortable and had a mini kitchen. There is a full laundry room downstairs also. Beautiful beaches and restaurants are all just a short drive away. We truly had no complaints and would 100% stay at On a Whim again. Enjoy!

Rest and relaxation with a view!!

We were a group consisting of 2 couples. The downstairs suite has its own entrance which we found to be wonderful for privacy for the other couple. They said they were quite comfortable and they had a nice view as well. There is another bedroom and bathroom upstairs, as well as the main living area. The kitchen was well appointed and had everything we needed. We even were able to use the outdoor grill which has a griddle on it. The pool was clean and inviting. All of the outdoor spaces were amazing! We loved eating out on the covered porch. We were able to watch a few movies while we were there too. The outdoor speakers that you can bluetooth to were a nice touch. We are frequent visitors of St. John and this is one of our favorite rentals we've stayed at. The driveway isn't very difficult to navigate. We rented a Jeep so no issues. We've stayed places that were much more difficult to reach. lol If you want a quiet place, away from the hustle of town, and where you can sleep to the sounds of the tree frogs (love), this is a great spot. It's only a few minutes to get to the grocery and Surfside Cantina (yummy) for good eats. It was about 15 minutes to get to Maho Bay beach and about 30 minutes to Cruz Bay. Also, we had a very sweet man, Linus? (the gardener), that showed up to water the landscaping. We really enjoyed talking to him! The property manager deserves a shout out too. Awesome communication! We would 100% stay here again. Thank you! :)

I want this to be our little secret...

I selfishly don't even want the world to know about this place! It was truly perfect in every way. The property is very well thought out with the lower level (private) 2nd bedroom if you travel with another couple, infinity pool, deck with the BEST views of Coral Bay and ocean breeze......and an outdoor shower. Kitchen had everything we needed! Very clean (I'm overboard on this) and big thank you for not using smelly cleaning products - we both have allergies to scents and we both felt great. We were also able to get a workout with the adjustable dumbbells downstairs while looking over the bay. On a Whim checked all the boxes for us and it was SO hard to leave. I want to sit on this porch every morning for the rest of my life with coffee in one hand - it was that perfect. These owners have created a little slice of Heaven - so thankful they shared it with us.

My husband and I are from Pennsylvania and have visited the USVI for several years now, particularly St. Thomas until we decided to spend time in St. John the winter of 2023. We stayed at On a Whim and fell in love with the property and location. Coral Bay, itself, is a diamond in the rough! When we found out the house was for sale, we were excited for the potential to take on a new adventure, one that also included being hosts for the first time in our lives.

As people who enjoy everything the island life and the outdoors has to offer, we have a few favorite places that keep bringing us back! On the South Side, Coral Bay is a must! Be sure to visit Skinny Legs (bar and grill) and Lime Out (taco boat accessible only by boat). Salt Pond Bay is amazing and there are two very cool hiking trails connected to it. The first is short and has many stone figures made by the many who visit. Be sure to make one yourself/ves! The second is longer and challenging with spectacular views. Honestly, there are many hidden treasures on this side of the island! Adventure on!

On the North Side, you'll find the beautiful beaches that everyone talks about. Cruz Bay is the main hub on St. John with shopping, restaurants, night clubs, a marina, etc. Lots of action here. The beaches on the North and East sides are easily accessible here. Be sure to check out Trunk Bay with its underground snorkeling trail. Cinnamon Bay, the Reef Bay Trail, the Annaberg Plantation Ruins and Trail, and Caneel Bay as these are among our favorites. At Caneel Bay, there is an opportunity to have an amazing dinner at Zozo's on the beach (make a reservation) and to visit Honeymoon Beach! We suggest spending the day at Honeymoon Beach and having dinner at Zozo's. You will not be disappointed!

Our property is cozy and functionable. We fell in love with its surroundings - the birds and other sounds of nature that persist throughout the day, not to mention the climate and temperature on this side of the island! The house itself provided us with a home away from home - a place to work, if necessary, and relax. While we do enjoy going out to eat, we also love cooking and trying new recipes, so having the ability to cook a variety of Caribbean meals at the house, including grilled lobster, suited us perfectly. The pool allows for private, quiet days; and the location of the house, itself, allows for easy access to everything you could possibly want out of St. John.
