First off, we love Block Island and loved our time on the island. The house's yard was also great for our young children to explore. But we had a few major issues with the house, which shouldn't be a surprise to the host because we communicated them throughout our stay. First, the communication with Linda was often delayed (I had to reach out to her the day before our trip). She was often defensive when we had questions and frustrations particularly with the cleanliness of the house and the location of various things (such as a remote control for the tv). There was no house guide or book or anything to help us with any FAQs that might come up with a house that isn't your own. The kitchen was very grimy, with cabinet doors loose, and the dishwasher falling out. She offered to have the cleaning person come back during our stay - which didn't seem fair to the cleaner and would be disruptive to us. There were about 7 lights that had missing lightbulbs, which she again offered to have the cleaning person drop off. We felt that these were home owner issues and not something for a cleaner to have to manage mid-week. Many fixtures were in disrepair (light fixtures, toilet paper rolls, etc.). The outdoor tables and chairs were filthy and many were broken, making them unsafe for our kids to use. We also had to bring ALL of our linens, which she communicated one day prior to check in. I had to ask repeatedly if there were blankets for the beds or if we had to bring those, as well. With four children, this meant adding a giant suitcase and a lot of extra cleanup and work for us. Lastly, the house is on a VERY rough road with deep ruts. This has been mentioned in previous reviews, and not dealt with. The road was so deep that our car kept bottoming out, so I had to drive around them scratching the car all over the place. The photos in the listing are nice but deceptive - they must be at least 10 years old since the outdoor pergola is overgrown with vines and unusable. Again, love Block Island. Very disappointed by the house that was listed and the communication with the host.
