Abbott Creek Cottage belonged to my great Aunt Rose, who was the daughter of the Martin family, who were the original homesteaders, inside the Canyon. It sits on part of the original homestead. The Cottage has been updated many times but the living room is the original cabin.
My father set the first turbine in Hungry Horse Dam just 4 miles from the Cottage. As a little girl my brothers, sisters and I would fish in Abbott Creek and sail our paper boats on feast days... Many a summer afternoon was spent walking the Creek to the Middle Fork of the Flathead River and picnicking along the way! A rough trek by any standards!
I was raised in Martin City, one of twelve children! My parents owned a grocery store, meat market and lockers near mile marker #144! The new highway took our home and store.
