Cottage with a stunning sea view on the south-west coast of Ireland

The cottage in Ducalla, Finan’s Bay, built in traditional Irish style, is over 100 years old and has been carefully renovated. It sits on a cliffside with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Skellig Islands, and the surrounding mountains. This is one of the most beautiful stretches of the Irish coastline along the Ring of Kerry, set in unspoiled nature, on a large plot of land and far from any hustle and bustle. Here, you can enjoy the tranquility of a cottage with an open fireplace or relax while gazing out at the sea.

The ground floor features a spacious open-plan living and dining area with a kitchen, as well as two bathrooms. On the first floor, there are two bedrooms and a connecting room with an additional sleeping area. The house offers ample space and comfort for up to five people.

From the large terrace of the holiday home, you can enjoy sweeping views over the ocean all the way to the monastic island of Skellig Michael, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Garden furniture is available.

Additional Costs The house cleaning fee (€100) as well as usage-based electricity and heating costs are to be paid upon departure. This amount may also be charged as a deposit.

Fishing, Deep-Sea Fishing, Skelligs: Thanks to the warm Gulf Stream, the clear and clean waters of this region offer an ideal paradise for anglers. Departure points include the small harbors in Finan’s Bay, Ballingskelligs, Portmagee, and Valentia. From here, you can also book trips to the Skelligs, which are not only a World Heritage Site — visiting this monastic island will leave a deep and lasting impression.

Freshwater Fishing: The picturesque lake Lough Currane near Waterville offers all possibilities, as boats with outboard motors can be rented at nearly every farm along the shore.

Golf: Waterville Links, Dooks Links, Killarney Mahony’s Point. Many other courses are available in places such as Killorglin, Kenmare, etc.

It was fantastic to wake up and look and hear the ocean. The cottage was dated but comfortable, just what I expected from the picture. Neither my wife or I wanted to leave. Dierdre was such a huge help with all sorts of information from hiking trails to places to eat.

Special location with a great view

We had very nice days there by the sea with a direct view of the Skellig Islands. The house is in a really fantastic location and has its own charm there above the rocky coast. You can also start some hikes directly from the house.

Fantastic, private getaway with gorgeous views of the Atlantic!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this cottage on the cliff!!! My friend and I were looking for a remote cottage on the Kerry coast with cows, sheep, views, quite, peat fires for complete relaxation… and did this property deliver! The photos and description on vrbo are exactly what you get!!! It’s a scary drive on the one lane road to get to the cottage but… after a day or two… the driving became easier (for us Americans)…… We will absolutely stay at this cottage again!!!

Unbeatable view

We enjoyed our stay at this very charming property. Deirdre was very prompt in answering any questions we had. An initial issue with the heater was thankfully fixed on the following day. If you have the courage to brave the narrow road leading to this house, the view of the bay and the skelligs as well as the starlit nights will more than make up for the way.

The location was idyllic. Pure peace and relaxation. The view was amazing! There was a beach 9 min away where we were able to swim. ( warm water and small waves one day but after that the waves were too high- still great to sit by). Lots of great day trip options in every direction. The cottage met our needs. The 3rd bedroom is really just a bed at the top of the stairs. Bring eye shades and ear plugs if you're planning on sleepingin that bed. Not luxurious but comfortable. I do wish there had been more dvds to watch or games to play. We brought own cards so we were able to stay entertained. We picked up some dvds at the charity shop in Cavherviseen but then the player broke. Hopefully they'll replace it. One bit of advice. If you are driving in past Caherviseen the Supervalu at the gas station just past the town center is a good place to get groceries (if you come from the other direction there is a good market in Waterville ). We would definitely stay there again

As beautiful as it looks!

It really was magical to stay there. Given the spectacular view we enjoyed every morning simply eating breakfast, we thought it couldn't get any more beautiful anywhere else in Ireland. And we were basically right! Some wonderful towns and sights on the Ring of Kerry are nearby -- I recommend Sneem, in particular -- but the real joy is simply spending a day at the house, enjoying the view and going on look hikes. I do want to point out, though, that listing the property as a 3-bedroom property is misleading. The third "bedroom" is actually a double bed situated on the landing between the two bedrooms. It worked out for us, but for those who seeking three private bedrooms, this is not the right property.

Great View - Cottage Needs Improvement

While the view was stunning, the cottage itself was disappointing. The couch and armchairs had rips that were taped and the entire place smelled musty. We were given two bath towels and two hand towels for 2 people/12 days. I requested more towels, which I received promptly. This place has a lot of potential, but the owner needs to make some small investments. The outdated furniture needs to be replaced by something fresh and clean; some happy pictures would be nice as well. It also wouldn't hurt to have some small shampoo bottles and soap available, which doesn't cost much, just in case the guests forgot to bring some. There was a picnic table in the shed, which was locked. It would have been nice if we had been able to use it. No lawn chairs were available, just two cheap plastic chairs. There are also no bicycles, which would have been great to have. I did not feel comfortable in this place, except when we were sitting outside enjoying the view. Inside it felt sad and dated.

Photos don't do it justice

This house by the sea met all our high expectations. We were looking for a good place to rest and recover.This is a great option if you want to get away from it all. We spent a lot of time in the sun room with that terrific view. Location: 5 stars. The Sea! Absolutely phenomenal view of the Atlantic and the Skellig islands.The photos don't do it justice. Remote, pastoral setting with cows and sheep surrounding you. Be sure to do the Skellig Loop hike. It's incredible and almost feels private. Charm: 5 stars. Amenities: 4 stars. Fireplace was a big plus for us. Washing machine and line drying. Good shower! Comfort: 4 stars. Great balance between an old traditional Irish farmhouse and fairly modern amenities. A cozy fire in the fireplace and a great view of the ocean is hard to beat. Beds and bedding were adequate. I am not a picky sleeper. The mattress and pillow might be an issue for some. Value: 5 stars I thought it was an excellent value. Overall we paid about $600 Euro for 4 nights for two couples. Access: 4 stars. Very remote and a good respite from the city. Hard to find with the directions provided. Use the GPS code! Some minor drawbacks: - Smell of fuel oil from the furnace was strong at first. It helped to keep the doors closed and the windows open in the bathroom/laundry/furnace room. - Separate cleaning, fuel, and electricity costs must be paid in cash. Perhaps that's normal in Ireland?

Das Haus hatte eine faszinierend schöne Lage, wenn auch sehr abgelegen. Aber grade das war sehr schön. Die direkten Nachbarn waren Vögel, Schafe und Kühe.Etwas mühsam war das Organisieren von Brennholz für den offenen Kamin, da dies nicht im Haus selbst war und man über 20 km hierfür nach Cahersiveen fahren musste. Aber auch das letztlich kein Problem.Wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt und können das Cottage in jedem Fall weiterempfehlen.

Sehr schöner Urlaubsort

Das Haus ist wirklich toll. Die Lage ist super. Die Aussicht und die Ruhe sind einmalig schön. Der Anfahrtsweg ist etwas abenteuerlich, da die Straßen so eng sind. Leider hat es im Haus muffig gerochen und die Einrichtung ist etwas zu sehr in die Jahre gekommen. Spinnweben und Schimmel waren dezent vorhanden.

Liebenswertes altes Haus mit fantastischem Ausblick

Wir hatten eine tolle Woche. Trotz schlechtem und kaltem Wetter haben wir die Zeit durch das knisternde Feuer vor dem schönen alten Kamin genossen. Wer alte Häuser mit viel Charme aber einigen Unzulänglichkeiten mag, ist hier genau richtig. Die Internetseite ist nicht ganz korrekt. WLAN ist absolut kein Problem. Die Netzanbindung ist ebenso unproblematisch. Eine Feuerstelle außen ist ebenso wie Liegestühle leider nicht vorhanden. Es gibt normale Gartenstühle. Für alle, die Einsamkeit, Ruhe, viel Platz und eine atemberaubende Natur suchen, können das Haus sehr empfehlen. Es empfiehlt sich das Mitbringen von Lebensmitteln und Brennmaterial für den Kamin.

Anders als erwartet

Leider sind wir etwas enttäuscht von dem Objekt gewesen. Unschlagbar ist und bleibt der Ausblick. Es ist uns auch bewusst gewesen, dass es sich um ein altes Haus handelt, jedoch ist die Sanierung gefühlt 20 Jahre her, warum kein Bild von den Bädern drin ist, ist selbsterklärend. Das Haus ist schlicht und einfach abgewohnt. Die Couch und Sessel haben Löcher haben und sind so durchgesessen das da mal etwas erneuert werden müsste. Ich kann auch nicht nachvollziehen was an diesem Haus kinderfreundlich ist. Auch mit dem Heizkosten kann ich mich nur dem einen Kommentar hier anschließen, wir haben 30€ bezahlt für 5 Tage. Sicherlich für das Wetter kann keiner was und es ist ärgerlich das man im Sommer heizen muss aber durch den kalten Wind und die nicht vorhandene Isolierung des Hauses war das heizen unumgänglich. Die hohen Preise kann man auch nicht nur auf die Energiekrise schieben. Die Aussicht ist sicherlich unschlagbar und man ist wirklich so weit ab vom Schuss - das man seine Ruhe hat, aber man müsste in der Beschreibung schon angeben das man locker eine halbe Stunde zum nächsten Lebensmittelgeschäft braucht. Wanderwege sind auch toll aber der Zustand des Hauses hat nicht überzeugt. Schade, könnte eine richtige Perle sein.

Skellig View

Wir hatten das Glück 14 wundervolle Tage im Cottage verbringen zu dürfen. Wie schon von den anderen beschrieben, ließ das Cottage keine Wünsche offen, wir haben uns rund herum wohl gefühlt. Die Lage ist einfach nicht zu toppen, ich konnte gar nicht genug bekommen von der Aussicht. Die erste Woche sind wir nur gewandert, auch hier, das Cottage ist einfach perfekt, wunderschöne Wanderrouten gleich anbei. Was sollen wir noch sagen? Wir möchten sehr gern noch einmal wieder kommen. Irland ist (für uns) das schönste Land, die Ballinskelligs ein weiteres Stückchen, das wir in unser Herz geschlossen haben.

Das Haus ist perfekt. Ich war 2,5 Wochen allein dort, es hatte die ideale Größe an der idealen Lage. Ein schöner Wanderweg liegt direkt am Haus. Freier Blick aufs Meer, die Küste, Schafweiden. Ich war im Februar da, da war es recht kalt, im Sommer, wenn man auf der Terrasse sitzen und den Sonnenuntergang beobachten kann, muss es sogar noch besser sein.

Ich schließe mich den anderen Rezensenten an: einfach wunderbar. Lage und Ausblick sind einfach fantastisch - und weit entfernt von Hektik und Trubel. Die Ruhe ist ein Genuss. Tipps für die Anreise: (1) Einkaufen nicht vergessen (Supermärkte in Cahersiveen mit dem Auto knapp eine halbe Stunde entfernt) - (2) für den Mietwagen sollte man entscheiden, wo man den Platz haben will (innen oder außen), die Straßen sind oft sehr schmal ;-)
