Our family (husband, wife, & two adult children) stayed here for one week in December 2019.
The house itself is comfortable and charming, colourfully decorated with nautical paintings, photos and homey touches. The living room and 2 of the 3 bedrooms open up to the expansive outdoor veranda, and a magnificent view to the Atlantic Ocean! The covered veranda is where we hung out whenever we were “at home”. It has a hammock, a sizable dining table and chairs, and a good number of very comfortable lounge chairs. In front of the veranda, is a small open patio where we could “sun” ourselves if we wanted.
The hosts had thought of everything to make our stay as pleasant as possible. All towels, beach chairs, toiletries, washer & dryer, CD player & CD’s, plenty of fridge & freezer space was all there if we needed it. Since restaurants are not close by, we cooked many meals in the well-appointed kitchen. The hosts provided every cooking pot, pan, utensil imaginable, plus accoutrements such as spices, teas, vinegar etc. that we didn't have to purchase, but appreciated having. The owner even provided a delicious (secret recipe) rum punch for us to enjoy!
The beds were very comfortable, and the sheets and bedding were good quality and very clean. Each bed came with mosquito netting above it, but we didn’t really need it when we were there. Even though there is no screening on the windows or doors, the warm breeze off the ocean meant that no insects were ever an issue. That breeze was also heavenly to sleep with!
The house is located high on a cliff, overlooking the ocean, and a beach we could walk down to, and swim if we wanted, (though there are much nicer swimming beaches on the island).
The hosts have made it very clear in their write-up that the house is aptly named. “Further Away” is definitely located far away from Restaurants, Bars, Grocery stores and most amenities. Also, the east coast of the island is not as popular for tourists and is not as built-up as the south and west coasts. But if one is looking for a quiet get-away, to relax and regenerate, where nature is still somewhat untouched, this is simply a spectacular location!
We'll never forget that view – at sunrise, with the sun rising over the ocean, in the glorious sunshine of the day, and at night – with reflected moonlight on the water. It was a magical, memorable, magnificent holiday- Thank you Caroline!
PS: The Barbadian people are exceptionally happy, friendly & helpful.
