The side gate next to the main house was open so we uses this path to get to the vrbo. The carriage house & main house were lit up. We put the code into the keypad several times with no luck unlocking the door. We used the same code to see if it would work on the wooden gate to the side street which it did. Since lights in the main house were on, we knock on their door to see if the owner could unlock the carriage house. We tried contacting the owner via through vrbo since we didn’t have the owner’s phone number. This was when we discovered that she had canceled our reservations a few hours before the check-in time.The owner sent us a message the day before our arrival mentioning that there was an issue with the HVAC and a repair person was coming over at 11. I mentioned that we were in transit and to text me on any updates. Since I didn’t receive any text we figured the problem was fixed. Now we were stuck looking for a place at night. With a religious convention and a football game occurring the same weekend, majority of the downtown hotels in the safer areas were full. The hotel where the wedding that we were in Memphis for was full. We ended up couch surfing at the house of the bride’s parents. The next day we were able to find a place which was more expensive than the cost of the 5 nights at the vrbo and it was located outside of the downtown area so we had the additional commute of 40 minutes each day when a wedding activity occurred which was a total of 4 days.
