My kids (14, 12) and I like to have an end-of-summer getaway before school starts. We usually try to get as far from the beaten path as possible and stay in waterfront cabins. This cabin was *perfect* for that!
The highlight for us was definitely being right on the water. We spent most of the time we weren't in or on the water sitting on the deck, listening to the loons, watching eagles perch on the rocks, and just generally soaking in the peace and quiet. It was incredibly relaxing.
The cabin itself was easy to stay in--power, running water, refrigerator etc felt quite luxurious compared with some of the more primitive places we've stayed in past years. If you are looking for a high-end luxury stay this is not the property for you, but if you want to be right on the water with all modern conveniences this place is perfect.
The swimming and fishing were excellent, and it was great to have the dock for our kayaks. I will note that if you are looking for a spot with a deep-water dock appropriate for diving or jumping off, the water was not deep enough for that in the current position of the dock. The bottom is rocky which I prefer greatly to mud/muck/weeds.
Succinct highlights: hungry smallmouths, especially off of the island directly across the lake, loons and eagles galore, lots of privacy from neighbors, the crazy sawdust pile, driving the golden road to Greenville, proximity to Millinocket for shopping.
Katahdin Air were super nice and easy to rent kayaks from!
