Very Nice Property

This cottage was clean and nicely appointed. It was a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Access to the Bloody Point Water Taxi, Melrose on the Beach Club and 6 person golf cart made a big difference in our stay. The property manager (Deb) was awesome. We totally enjoyed the Daufuskie Island experience, this cottage and will be back.

The cottage was perfect for our 8 family members plus one furry member.

We had a great time exploring Daufuskie Island. We really enjoyed the restaurant on the property. The food was delicious. We spent the mornings on the beach and the afternoons at the pool. You are pampered and spoiled at the pool. Deborah was wonderful. She went over and above to make us comfortable and to make our stay more enjoyable. We are looking forward to coming back!

Worth the effort

Cottage is exactly as described. Everyone was comfortable. The cottage is a short walk to the Melrose Pool and Restaurant and also the beach. A short golf cart ride will take you to Bloody Point and Marshside Mamas. We ate breakfasts and some lunches in, but went out for all of our dinners. Requires some planning since there is no grocery store on the Island. Want to relax? This is your place!

Very nice

My family and I stayed 5 nights and loved every minute of it. The momement I walked in I felt right at home. Very cozy and tastefully decorated. We ecspecially loved the sunroom, that's were we had our coffe every morning. The kitchen was well equipped, which was nice since we cooked almost everyday. The only complaint I have is all the mattresses need to be replaced. My poor husband played musical beds the whole vacation and even tried sleeping on the couch one night.

Perfect Family Vacation!

Our family; my husband and I, our children and grandchildren plus 3 grandpups very much enjoyed our time on Daufuskie. We rented the Daufuskie Cottage and the Bliss Cottage. We couldn't have been happier with both cottages. Deborah Smith and staff were so welcoming and accommodating! Upon our arrival to the cottages everything was clean and beautiful! Deborah even supplied us with a high chair and pack n play. She went out of her to make sure we had everything we needed. We had all ages, a baby, toddlers, elementary school age, teenagers, young adults, middle agers and grandparents! Hands down everyone was comfortable. When it came time to leave no one wanted to! There is something magical about Daufuskie - the beauty of the island, the carefree bohemian attitudes - all so hard to leave! We loved the beaches, wildlife, the fun out of the way trips to little galleries, the music and laughter and games at Freeport Marina........ Daufuskie ! what's not to love! Now our problem is to figure out when we get to go back

WONDERFUL Daufuskie cottage!

This was my fourth trip to Daufuskie, and my second time renting from the Daufuskie Rental Group, and I have to say, this unit was the best one yet! All three bedrooms are a nice size, well appointed, beautiful kitchen, peaceful screened in back porch, and the best golf cart on the island! When I dropped my husband off at Melrose for his third round of golf, one of the other golfers commented, "Nice stretch limo!" And they were not kidding! This 6 seater golf cart is off the chain! It's quick, turns on a dime and oh so comfortable! Our whole family loved riding in the gem cart! Deborah, our property manager, was so helpful and answered every question I had no matter how small or silly (mostly because I didn't thoroughly read the material she had already sent me earlier). We rented 4 bikes during this stay for the first time, and LOVED having bikes. LOVED the bikes, I highly recommend enjoying Melrose and Daufuskie by bike! We biked to Marshside Mama's one night for dinner, but were not thinking when we had to bike home in the dark (thank goodness for the flashlight app on our phones)! Not our smartest moment. We loved the beach, the pool, the golf course, the horses, everything! Melrose beach club put on a low country boil for Memorial weekend that was wonderful! They had live music on Saturday and Sunday too! One evening we had Ernestine make her special crab for our dinner, and it was the highlight of our trip. The whole family LOVED everything Ernestine made for us! Our two labs LOVED playing on the beach in the mornings and late evenings. They enjoyed long walks in the trees, and just enjoyed being on vacation with us! It's so rare to find a pet friendly vacation place, and this place tick's all our boxes! Overall, it was probably our best Daufuskie trip yet, and we introduced some new family members to Daufuskie, and I think they caught the Daufuskie bug! They're hooked like us! :)

Daufuskie was beautiful and peaceful. This is a great get away if you just want to relax and caught.

The only bad experience with this property was the owner controlled the AC. It was too warm at night. For sports on TV you had to have a personal password.

Fantastic Get Away in Lockdown

We really needed a getaway after months of lockdown, but also wanted to be super safe. This gem on Daufuskie Island was perfect! Deb, the manager was very attentive to our every need, even bringing us fresh baked bread. I was a little nervous about access to groceries, but the system of ordering from the Bluffton was easy, and a wonderful local chef named Ernestine will whip up tasty low country feasts! It really is a magical place, no crowds, a pristine beach, a quiet pool, and the perfect spot for some r&r.

Never disappoints

In general, Daufuskie is hands down the place to go for rest and relaxation. Not only was it the perfect place to escape the craziness currently, but offers beauty and serenity like no other place. The house was everything we needed (and more)! Clean, thoughtfully decorated and Deborah was fantastic to work with! Highly recommend.

Relaxing Family Time

Great property and responsive management. We loved the size (plenty of space for our family of 4). Nice amenities including plenty of beach chairs, glassware and cookware. Kids loved roku tv. Not on the beachfront but very very close and easy access. Having Melrose pool was also nice. We would highly recommend and would definitely return.

Unique, lovely vacation.

Relaxing family get away

We were looking for a safe place to visit during Covid with fewer people and we found the perfect place. The Melrose Beach had plenty of room to social distance and our dog was able to join us - her first trip to the ocean! This won't be our last trip to Daufuskie Island and we are already planning our next visit. Knowing now how the ferry ride and shuttle to the house work, it will be even more relaxing. We packed all our food for the week and all was easily and efficiently transported. Deborah and her team were so patient with questions before our arrival and so hospitable to us while we were there. Some of our outings included golf cart rides, horseback riding, kayak tour, paddle boarding and shopping with the local artists. While the Melrose Club being close by and abandoned is a bit different, the slow pace and lack of crowds makes Melrose Beach and Daufuskie Island a very special place.

Great family vacation.

We enjoyed our stay so much. Long days at the beach, but could go back to the house easily for whatever we needed. Great for our kids, we rented bikes and they were off to explore. Definitely wasn't ready to leave.

Wonderful! Next time we'll stay longer!

This was our family's first experience with vrbo, and our first trip to Daufuskie Island. We couldn't not have been any more pleased! The cottage was perfect - charming beach decor, clean, exactly as described! The location was great - plenty of privacy and quiet, close to the beach, close to Melrose pool, and easy to navigate from on the golf cart. (We heavily depended on the map the first day!) Everyone enjoyed the screened porch and hammock in the backyard. It was a fun, relaxing place for all our meals (We ate out twice - Crab Co. & Lucy Bell's - both yummy), and evening reading (A great selection of books in the cottage.) The last day, we discovered an armadillo in the backyard. (Don't wait til the last day to explore the back yard like we did.) Deborah was a perfect host. She was available and so helpful - before and during our visit. Since it was our first trip to Daufuskie, I had lots of questions and appreciated all her answers and tips. Daufuskie is a wonderful, but unique place, so be sure to do your "homework." The other reviews here also have good info. We tried to pack lightly and it was good to know there was a fully equipped kitchen stocked with some basics; & beach toys, etc. We spent a lot of time on the beach- relaxing, walking, playing, & even watched the sun rise one morning. The beach was lovely, and you have so much room to yourself. It wasn't really conducive for swimming (super oozy sand at low tide, and this season has plenty of jelly fish) but we were all happy finding other things to do on the beach. We had planned to visit the Melrose pool on our last day, but then learned that it was closed on Wednesdays. We explored most of the island - briefly at some of the points of interest. We loved learning the island's history and enjoyed the unique artisans' wares (the indigo fabrics was my favorite) - all of which I plan to revisit and spend more time in a future stay at Daufuskie. I would definitely recommend this vacation if you want a casual, relaxing spot. Daufuskie Island combined with this cottage and Deborah's help was the best getaway trip for our family. It's a unique atmosphere - and when we returned home, I was still waving at everyone!

Really liked this property!

We visited Daufuskie with some family and friends. Though spread across several houses, this house was our favorite. Three bedrooms not easy to find. Dog friendly was helpful. The kitchen was very well appointed (better than most). The back porch is very large / accommodating - we grilled several nights though we didn't spend a lot of time in the back (except where screened in) because of bugs (backs up to some woods/marsh). The property manager Deb was extremely helpful! Everything worked very well - so we had no issues / but Deb was very available and helpful with our few random questions/requests. I would definitely come back and hope to do so soon. I almost hesitate to provide this review for fear of others discovering and the property being booked next time :)

Relax on Island Time

This is the third time we have been to the island and the third time we have stayed at this house. Home is very comfortable and has everything you need for an enjoyable vacation. Deborah and Karen, DRG, are very helpful and accommodating. If you want to get away and just relax this is the place to go! See you next year!

A wonderful and relaxing place.

The home and the island were perfect. If your looking to get away from it all on a quiet beach, it doesn't get better than this. The home is comfortable and well appointed. Deborah is a great host and manager. This is the second year we have rented a house from Deborah and will be back again!

Annual Ladies Beach Trip

This is our second trip to Daufuskie, and will not be our last! We love this little island and all of its charm. The cottage is well laid out and has everything you could possibly need. Furnishings and bedding are all very comfortable. We will definitely be back!

Wonderful Cottage, Great Location, Terrific Trip

What a unique and fantastic place for a vacation. We loved Daufuskie, and could not have had a better place to stay than this cottage. We arranged for an early arrival and check-in, and Deborah communicated well with us before arrival, and met us at the cottage upon our arrival. She took the right amount of time to review everything we needed to know, before leaving us to enjoy our stay on the island. We had a couple of small questions during our stay, and a text message to Deborah was always met with a quick response, and useful information. Daufuskie is not for everyone, but our family enjoyed the quiet, the relatively uninhabited beaches, and the freedom to explore. The golf cart that came with this rental was also perfect, and we racked up some good miles as we explored nearly everywhere. Do your homework before deciding to go to Daufuskie, as it is not a resort island, nor does it have a lot of amenities. It is beautiful, quiet, peaceful, and a terrific place if you enjoy exploring and experiencing something different than your typical vacation destination. We couldn’t have asked for a better getaway. Thank you!

The Daufuskie Cottage and Daufuskie Island were fabulous !

Our house was very roomy and decorated with a lot of local art from the island! Any issues that you have is always taken care of by Deborah. Great family vacation!!

Daufuskie was unique and charming

We fell in love with Daufuskie. It was not love at first sight, but we quickly fell for it. First I'll say a bit about Deborah and her team. Deborah was out of town the week we rented so we did not meet her in person though she was very helpful beforehand. Our interactions were with Karen and she had a truly positive impact on our stay. Karen went out of her way on multiple occasions to assist us with various things. Rarely, if ever, have I had a property manager show the sort of kindness and service oriented attitude that Karen did. I would rent from Deborah and Karen again in a heartbeat! The house itself was really great four our family of 6. The furnishings surpassed what we expected. I was not too excited about it being a duplex but you know what, you couldn't even tell. I think we saw the guests on the other side 2 times in an entire week. The way the house is shaped your porches have totally privacy from one another. Speaking of the porch, that back porch was incredible. It's screened in with a comfy couch and ceiling fans. We fell asleep so many nights on that couch reading and listening to the insects chirping, so peaceful! The extended deck was also great and we enjoyed grilling out on the gas grill several nights. The kitchen was great and well stocked, the bedrooms and bathrooms were all great as well. There were ample beach toys, umbrella, chairs, etc. We never felt like we needed anything else. Lastly, Daufuskie itself was really peaceful. The beaches were mostly empty and it was so quiet without any background noise from cars or roads. If you're looking for lots of fun things to do, Daufuskie is not for you. If you want to actually relax and have nothing to do except long walks, golf cart rides, naps, board games with the family, etc. then Daufuskie is perfect! If you're a runner, Daufuskie has some great running options, we also did some paddle boarding out to the disappearing sand bar Island and over to Hilton Head as well. You can find a few adventurous things but it's mostly relaxing. The neighborhood this house is located in, Melrose, has some abandoned buildings but also signs of work being done. When we were there in late July it looked like they were about a week away from reopening the pool and a restaurant at the beach club. That would be a really nice option to have and it's about a 3 min walk away. Overall this house was wonderful, I highly recommend it!

Most relaxing vacation ever!

Cottage was beautiful. Great deck and screened in back porch. Deborah and Karen were wonderful to deal with and made our first time on Daufuskie very comfortable. We will be back!

As soon as we stepped foot on Daufuskie Island and the Melrose Resort more than 8 years ago, we knew this was the perfect place to create lifelong vacation memories for our family. We are so glad we can now introduce others to this our lovely cottage, and to share the endless stretches of sandy beaches, quiet roads, spectacular wildlife, and...and most especially...a laid-back vacation experience that is reminiscent of times gone-by.
