Living near New York, solitude is hard to find. However ...
The 380 mile drive to Friendsville from home in Westchester might be intimidating for some, but it was very much worth the effort for all 5 of us (2 'peoples' and 3 dogs). A lovely, quiet, small town in Maryland. Scenic (and then some), with plenty to do within easy reach.
The house itself is rustic and oldly-worldy, but very, very well appointed and incredibly comfortable. Plenty of space and, important to us, it has a fenced in backyard to let the hounds roam, with little concern about escape attempts (to be clear, if you have a very small dog, it WILL be able to escape under the fence in some places) - just keep an eye on them, as we saw many deer around the property that can send the woofs into full-on hunting mode!
A very well equipped property on a farm known locally (and further afield) for fantastic weddings in the adjoining barn. Nothing we needed wasn't easily found! The staff on the farm were very friendly and helpful, and the owner (Leigh) will pop in to see how you're doing while you're at home here.
Stop thinking and just book a stay here. You won't be disappointed.
