Heart Spring: Serene Retreat on 3.5 Acres w/ Epic Views—hot tub coming soon!

Heart Spring is on 3 1/2 extremely private acres at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, on top of its own hill surrounded by the loosely spaced piñon pine and juniper woodland biome at 8,000’, directly below the 14,000' peaks of the Sangre de Cristo range. Very few other homes are visible from our property, and the entire area is a designated International Dark Sky Community. Because of the lack of light pollution, on any clear, moonless night, you can look up and see the Milky Way in all its glory.

We have a beautiful redwood hot tub coming soon which will be installed at the end of March 2026, and we've just updated the office/work area with a new desk and office chair + fast Starlink internet.

Our property is bordered on the south by nearly 100 acres of unbuilt, protected forest greenbelt—and with the mountains and Rio Grande National Forest and the to the east, the view to the south-east is mostly wilderness. The closest peaks are Challenger Point, Crestone Peak, the Crestone Needle; a bit farther south you’ll find the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Blanca Peak. The home offers an expansive view of the San Luis Valley to the west, and up the valley to the north towards Monarch Pass and Salida, and back towards the town of Crestone itself. In short, you are surrounded in all directions by a unique landscape of stunning natural beauty.

The two-story home is spacious and inviting, with three bedrooms—one queen and two twins upstairs and one queen bedroom downstairs. The upstairs bedrooms both face south-east and are purposefully designed with numerous large windows to pull in the sun, moon and star light at various times of the day. Lying in bed in either of these bedrooms on a clear night is like being in a star chamber with direct access to the astral plane. The downstairs bedroom faces west, with a full view of the San Luis Valley and the marvelous sunsets in the west.

Heart Spring offers many areas for outdoor enjoyment at all times of the day and all seasons, including a huge outdoor patio with outdoor dining and lounge areas, a large south-facing deck off the two upstairs bedrooms perfect for sunrise coffee or stargazing, and a covered view balcony facing west and north—ideal for viewing sunsets and the dramatic weather that often rolls up the valley.

The open-concept floor plan with natural light and views in every direction invites both relaxation and connection. The living room features comfortable sofas, a gas fireplace, board games, a 55" HDTV and views of the forest and sky to the south. The gourmet kitchen is equipped with a Viking stove, custom cast concrete counters, and a dining bar for easy meals. Radiant in-floor heat warms the home in winter, with slate tile flooring downstairs and hardwood upstairs. There are two full bathrooms (one on each floor), both with full-sized tubs. The decor and furniture have been recently updated, adding color that reflects the vibrancy of the exterior landscape. We have a fast internet connection, with excellent Wifi coverage throughout the house and a dedicated work space with plenty of natural light.

Recently redecorated to add color and vibrant accents, we’ve created a space that’s clean, healthy, and intentionally uncluttered—designed to support restoration and wellbeing. The kitchen is fully stocked with essentials, including cookware, spices, coffee, olive oil, and herbal tea. Inspired by Southwestern minimalism, the home is furnished with natural fiber linens, earthy textures, and nature-inspired decor. We use only non-toxic, fragrance-free cleaning products to ensure a welcoming environment for all guests.

Our home is located close to many of the spiritual retreat centers that Crestone is famous for, making it ideal not only for wilderness-focus visits but for accommodation when visiting on retreat. Chamma Ling, Yeshe Khorlo Retreat Center, the Inner Light Dark Retreat, Crestone MahaLakshmi Temple, Crestone Mountain Zen Center, Choying Dzong, Shumei International Institute, and the Sangdo Palri Temple of Wisdom and Compassion are all within a mile or so, with many others just a short drive (or longer walk) away.

As for hiking, one of the reasons we love this home so much is that there are innumerable options for walks and hikes of all variations, right out door! We often enjoy a 2-3 mile neighborhood loop through the open space down south to Spanish Creek, as well as a longer, steeper loop up into the National Forest to the east. Established trails at Cottonwood Creek, Willow Creek, and Crestone Creek trailheads are also nearby.

We named our home Heart Spring to invoke the numerous nearby hot springs—and the calm, expansive feeling that arises within us whenever we visit. Our goal is to offer everything you need for a relaxing, rejuvenating retreat—or a comfortable base camp for exploring the great outdoors. We look forward to hosting you!
