Shelby Creek Shanty

helby Creek is modular by design, shanty by attitude. It's a work in progress-think of it as the shanty getting a little glow-up (but still keeping its flannel shirt on). Essentials are here: outdoor deck, fire pit, wi-fi, hammock, kayaks, and unbeatable sunsets. It's not fancy, but it's comfortable & clean. Perfect for couples, solo adventurers, small families/groups looking to relax, recharge, and reconnect with nature.
The space
SCS is a modular retreat tucked right along the shore of Lake Barkley. You can fish from the bank of the property and enjoy a campfire at water's edge. Located 3-min drive (10-min walk) away from a public boat ramp. 10-min away from Bev's gas station which offers some grub in addition to basic supplies. 10-min away from Bumpus Meals which is a local diner and 13-min from Big Rock Bar and Grill known for its burgers and brews.
30-min drive (10-min by boat) to Land Between the Lakes where you'll find hiking and bike riding trails, horseback riding, the Golden Pond Planetarium and Observatory, Elk and Bison viewing, and Wildlife Nature Center.
20-min drive to the Amish community where you'll find deli sandwiches, baked goods, homemade ice cream, grilled foods, and a plant nursery.
2-hours to Nashville (depending on time of day), traffic could turn it into who knows how long.
Guest access
You'll have the place to yourself.
There are 3-bedrooms, 2-full baths, and a pullout sofa bed.
Full kitchen with essentials provided. Coffee pot has metal grounds basket so no filters needed.
Full size washer/dryer.
Propane grill.
**Depending on water levels, you may be able to take kayaks directly from property, stone steps to be placed this winter**
Other things to note
What to expect:
*we're constantly making improvements but couldn't wait to share our humble shanty
*this is a simple, quaint, modular home-not a luxury cabin
*If you bring a pooch, please do your part and leave no trace. Bring poo bags, and pick up your dog’s poo, tie the bag, place it in the outdoor trash can by shed
*this area is on well water. I cook with it and brush my teeth with it but prefer the Brita water filter in the fridge for drinking and making coffee.
*the well pump is small, the pressure WILL fluctuate; plan accordingly and please keep laundry to a minimum
*it's right on the water, surrounded by nature (hello frogs, fireflies, bald eagles, and most recently a resident armadillo).
*cell signals can be spotty but we have wicked fast wifi (be sure to activate wifi calling on your device)
*you'll spot wildlife and hear the sounds of nature at night
*we keep it clean and cozy, but it's still a lake shanty
