New Log Home with Gorgeous Ocean View in Historic Acadian Village

L'Ardoise and surrounding villages have wild berries for the enthusiastic picker - strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, dewberries - even cranberries and foxberries. Free clam digging is available within fourteen miles, and copious oysters on a tide beach within five miles. Concerts and Ceilidhs are available in many locations throughout Cape Breton, some featuring the unique brand of Cape Breton fiddle music. Fortress Louisbourg is a world class historic re-enactment of a French Acadian fortress town. The beach in L'Ardoise, in the hamlet of Point Michaud, six miles from us, is 1.5 miles long, advertised as world class in quality. Fishing from shore for mackerel is available in the 300 meter canal connecting the Atlantic with the Bras d'Or Lakes, about 7 miles from our house. wild speckled (brook) trout live in every stream and pond. We have a 120 degree view of the Atlantic and the harbour.

In the front yard there is a badminton net, quite likely on the ground. Stakes are available with the net, if it needs to be erected, and equipment is in the ping pong room.

If any in your party is a member of the United Church of Canada, or the United Church of Christ in the U.S.A., I will give your party a 15% discount. Proof is required in each case. It was a major communication disaster with check in. Thank you to Vrbo for assistance and the host for finding resolution. However, the monetary compensation did not change the experience. Yes, we did finally get in, and the areas were cleaned after we arrived, but it was beyond stressful. Thank you to my niece who reached out to Vrbo on my behalf and the host contacting me the next day. Also, to the caretaker we tracked down in the community that cleaned areas that needed desperately needed to be cleaned. It was not cleaned from having guests prior and appeared it had been closed for several months by the large number of dead flies

Beautiful views and plenty of room.

We enjoyed our stay and found plenty to do in the area. There was lots of room for 2 couples. Point Michaud beach was gorgeous. The property manager responded promptly to our inquiries.

Great spot!

The place was clean but the water issue was a very big problem no running water working we had to have jugs of water for cooking drinking and to put in the toilets to be able to flush them. This was very inconvenient because we were all seniors and to lift these big jugs of water yes and we booked for 2 nights but only stayed 1 because of the water

As the well was dry when Lea registered, I told her we would provide her with filtered water for drinking, cooking, dishwashing, and flushing the toilet by pouring the water into the tank and then flushing. I told her she could get a cold shower at the beach. Because of the inconvenience, I would give her a 25% refund on her booking payment, which I did. When she and her party arrived, she asked my caretaker, that, since she could take a cold shower, why not a hot shower? She obviously didn't understand that the shower was at the beach. The water was not properly put into the tank of the commode, which caused a backup. I didn't charge her for the one night. I refunded all she paid me.

This is our second time staying here.

This is the second time we have stayed here with different family members. We are close to our family in L'Ardoise. The house is clean and has everything we need and we were so pleased with everything. We are planning our next trip with other family hopefully again next year.

Amazing ocean view

We stayed over the Christmas holidays. The house is great with lots of beds for a group. The view of the ocean from the upper floor is amazing! Obviously it was winter when we were there so all we could do was look at the ocean. I’d love to stay here again in the summer and take advantage of the beach and ocean.

Return stay

L'Ardoise is a beautiful seaside community. We stayed in this house 5 years ago and enjoyed it very much. Last month we returned for a second time to enjoy the privacy, quiet and the amazing views from the deck and the upstairs windows. The house is spacious, well equipped and very easy to find. The property manager is friendly, nearby and easy to reach. We enjoyed our return stay.

Excellent owner and host

Our trip to L’Ardoise was amazing, the house was so clean and well equipped with everything we needed. The owner was excellent and very prompt to answer and kept in touch with us all through the process. The cleaner was excellent and met us upon arrival with the keys and checked to make sure we had everything we needed . I would recommend it to friends and anyone who is looking for a great place to stay 👍

A slice of Acadia!

This home is more of a pan-abode style house than a log house and very rustic inside. The rooms are large and perfect for an active family. The location is a little distant from the usual attractions of Cape Breton Island. It's a good idea to ask to have the house aired for 2 days before you arrive.

I have academic degrees from the University of New Hampshire, the University of Minnesota, and Andover Newton Theological School in Newton, Massachusetts. I am an ordained minister of the United Church of Christ.

In 1980, when my wife and I wanted a vacation house, L'Ardoise was affordable. We bought a very small house. in 2005, when we had more resources, we took it down and built the roomy house advertised in this website.
