Our family of 5 stayed at Casa Redonda for four nights. There were four bedrooms and enough space for everyone in the house and outside.
It has a large pool that is well-maintained by the staff (more on that below), several hammocks between coconut trees, a private and rustic palm tree roofed hut that has a beautiful view of the emerald ocean, a long private dock with another (and bigger) hut at the end where one can fish, read or just hang out. I can't think of anything more that a vacationing family would want that the property and its grounds don't provide.
What clinched the deal for us was the fabulous service by the caretakers, Elena and Alex, who live in the back of the property. They take care of the house and the grounds every day. They were very accommodating, cheerful and solicitous. Alex even climbed up the coconut trees on the property to get coconuts and gave us all the coconut water and fruit we wanted. Having stayed at many homes on our vacation using Homeaway or other rental services, having 24/7 on-site caretakers is rare, much less having caretakers who are so friendly and helpful.
As for the house, there are four bedrooms and two full bathrooms in addition to a large room that is a combination kitchen, living room, sitting room and dining room. The house is definitely not new and could use a fresh coat of paint, a bit of elbow grease and a weekend of a handyman for little things. Ultimately, this is someone's home, not a 5-star resort hotel suite. There are too many good things about the property, esp. its grounds that rivaled an upscale resort and at the price point, that we are giving our hearty 5 stars for its grounds, value and caretakers.
The location of the property may be a plus for some and a minus for others. It is located about 3 1/2 miles south of the town center in San Pedro. It is quiet, isolated and away from outside distractions. However, the trip to the town center in a golf cart (the primary mode of transportation) is on a little-traveled dusty, bumpy road and long. It took us about 20 minutes to get to the town center each way.
There are only two dining options nearby - Lone Star Grill (excellent Tex-Mex food and service despite its very "rustic" appearance) and Black Orchids Restaurant (a beautiful space with food that seems more in line with Wisconsin supper clubs, which, again, could be a good thing for some and not so great for others).
