Short summer get away

We came down just for the weekdays as we dont like the beach too crowded. Myself ,wife and daughter(9) loved the location. The house sits off the beach a little but is still ocean front. We loved having the volleyball court and being able to walk on and off the beach. The house was perfect for what we wanted, the little soft serve ice cream was a hit with my daughter of course( would not advise the black cherry, my daughter had many key lime and my favorite was the pecan,ask for samples if unsure). Myself and my daughter are huge Britts doughnut supporters so the morning beach walks were great, tiki bar a short walk was great as well. We got some recommendations from the owner Chris and he was spot on for places to dine. Thursday night fireworks are always a hit for the family.We come atleast one time a yr sometimes 3-4 depending on whats going on. We will definitely keep a eye open for a open time slot here again. Thanks for the great accommodations and killer recommendations. Cheers, til next time

Second stay here - even better than the first!!

We just spent a fantastic long weekend in this house - our second time here and it keeps getting better. Having the beach as your backyard is simply unbeatable. Add in the great location, easy parking, ice cold AC and a really responsive owner - there's no better value and no better place to spend time at the beach. We can't wait to go back!!!

Volleyball house is a great game!

We stayed a week with 4 adults and 3 grandkids- 2,4,6. Absolute blast, all only crying was when we left. 50 steps from beach access, across the street is soft serve ice cream. The back yard is remarkably private. We will be back 👍

Awesome House

We stayed at this house over Labor Day weekend and had a fantastic experience! The house was in excellent condition and very clean. It was just a few steps from the ocean and also very convenient to everything else in Carolina beach. It was a perfect house for our family with two small children. The owner was super easy to work with and very accommodating. I would highly recommend it for your beach stay!

Perfect - I wish I could stay all year here

This is a great house, with an owner who is great to work with. The fact that you can walk from the backyard to the beach is simply unbeatable. The house is clean, comfortable and has plenty of room. Parking in the driveway is easy and quick and the AC inside is ice cold. The fire pit was great each night. The location is spectacular, you can walk for pizza and ice cream in 5 minutes - you could park the car and never drive it. The owner is responsive by text and very nice. Truly a great house and definitely worth the money.

Charming, comfortable, clean house

My girlfriends and I stayed here last weekend. Our plan was to participate in the annual Lo Tide Run, however, weather was not our friend and the race was cancelled. No problem, though, because we had this lovely and charming house to relax in! It was spotless, uncluttered and comfortable. We loved visiting The Spot, a nearby bar with good food. We also ventured to the Boardwalk - a bit of a walk but we didn't mind. Overall, we had a wonderful time and loved this house! Thanks for hosting us, Chris!

Perfect for our long beach weekend

A Summer’s Rest worked perfectly for our long weekend at Carolina Beach. The home was as pictured, clean, comfortable, and well appointed. We traveled with our two kids, who took the bunk room and my wife’s parents who took the second bedroom. It was the perfect amount of space inside. The deck, firepit area, and sand volleyball court are amazing, and you can be on the beach about a minute after stepping out the door. It was our first time at Carolina beach so we didn’t appreciate how great the location of the house is. We did Fort Fisher, the state park, and the Kure beach pier (all fun) and all of the restaurants we tried were good. The Fat Pelican (dive bar) was great and is a must-do. We would (and hopefully will) stay here again!

Wonderful family holiday getaway ...

My family of 4 really enjoyed staying at 'A Summers Rest 2' for Thanksgiving weekend. We had plenty of space, and felt very at home at this great rental property. We played badminton, took long walks on the beach, built a bon-fire with semores, and watched football (satellite TV and wifi made it even better for my husband and 2 teenaged boys). Very easy to check-in and out - the owner made it easy. The weather was a little chilly (to be expected in late November), but clear and sunny. Had a great dinner at Freddies in Kure Beach and did a day trip to nearby Wilmington. Plenty to do, or not if you choose to sit back and relax. There would have been plenty of room if both boys wanted to bring a friend which we may do next time. Hope to visit A Summers Rest 2 again soon, maybe even in the summer!

Lovely cottage for a family

This adorable cottage was perfect for our family. While a condo might offer glitz and high-rise views, there is nothing that can compare to being able to walk right out to a family-friendly, safe outdoor space for your kids to play. The public beach access is steps away, and the cottage has everything you might need. We enjoyed time around the fire pit, walked over for burgers and fries, and my gluten-free teenager even walked down to the Veggie Wagon to do some shopping for herself. Not turning off my 5:37 alarm on my phone turned out to be a blessing in disguise as well. I got up every morning to enjoy a quiet cup of coffee and watch the sunrise. (The best colors are the ones before dawn.) We're so glad Chris put in the effort to save this little cottage. If you are hesitating on booking this place - don't.

Best Backyard Beach at Carolina Beach

“A Summer’s Rest” or Anytime Rest!! First A BIG Thank You to Chris!! He is an awesome Host and quick to respond to my questions! We thoroughly enjoyed having our coffee each morning on the deck with a perfect view of the beach, hearing the waves crashing and watching the sunrise as its rays sparkled across the ocean. We watched the boats go by and even a glimpse or more of dolphins!! The backyard is truly unique!! Having our very own private beach with everything you would need including a fire pit, surrounded with Adirondack chairs and umbrella! (which we used every day/night!) Had fun playing badminton (that we brought) using the full volleyball net in the backyard beach area! The kitchen area was a good size and open, allowing plenty of room to move around while we all pitched in to prepare our meals. It was a great vacation and we would certainly choose “A Summers Rest” again!!!

Cozy home with the best location!

This home is identical to the listing and images. The bedrooms were all spacious and the place was clean for the most part. We did find some hairs in one of the showers and the towels had some light stains on them, but these are things I’d expect to find at most rentals and overall the space was clean. The best part about this rental was the location. We were near everything we wanted to do like the battleship, aquarium, and food places. And the best part was being able to walk out the door and right out to the beach. Great location! The only real negative we had was just that the tv in the living room you can access Netflix through the Xbox. Which for my older in-laws was a very hard task, and the other tv isn’t usable unless you bring a fire stick or something to stream with. This is mentioned in the listing but we just had no idea how limiting it could be to use the tv’s. Thankfully we had plenty of other things to keep us occupied. The owner is very nice, and quick to respond. We had a great vacation, and the rental overall was great, just be prepared for the tv if you are older!

Horrible property manager

I was absolutely shocked with our experience based on previous reviews. We checked in and the house smelled terribly of cigarette smoke. I told Chris and his response was no it doesn’t. I said it definitely does and he kept doubling down that it didn’t. Our kids noticed it, my parents did. We had to get air freshener and wash all of the sheets and comforters. The smell still was there. I wasn’t asking for a discount or free stay…just letting him know and all he did was argue back. I never heard from him again. The house is beachfront which is great but it’s in a very busy location. The bed in the guest bedroom is about to break so be prepared not to sleep. There are holes in the wall. It was very a very disappointing experience overall. We spent over 4K and I wish that we hadn’t. We have stayed in other places in CB and never been disappointed in the slightest. I wish that we could get our money back.

Our family of 5 stayed here for a week in July. The house had plenty of room for us to relax. The location is very convenient to the public beach access. It’s also off the main road and close to everything. A great ice cream/snack shop just across the street. The backyard was great for the kids just to play in the sand while grownups relaxed. Wear shoes closer to the house though because there are some prickly things coming from nearby plants . Everything worked great, A/C, water, appliances, internet. Small issue out of the freezer, but didn’t affect our stay and was brought up to the owner, who is very responsive. Overall, great place to stay for a relaxing vacation at the beach.

Everything was listed accurately, the house was very clean. Plenty of room for 5 adults, we were on the beach for most of the day’s, we did go over to Southport, it’s a cute town you have to take a ferry over. Chris our host was easy to work with and check in & out was very easy

Great mini-vacay!

A Summer's Rest is absolutely adorable! It's quite roomy for a "little" cottage and its decorated beautifully and little hands can't get into too much mischief :)It was clean and had all the basics we would need for our 2 night stay.Booking on VRBO was seamless and Chris, the owner, was fabulous in communicating. And, he was super fabulous the day we were leaving when an unexpected issue arose.Not only would I stay at A Summer's Rest again but I would recommend it to everyone I know who planned on vacationing at Carolina Beach.OH! And the price was reasonable too!Thank you, Chris, for sharing your beautiful home!

Perfect Ocean Front Home

We could not have picked a better place to stay! Beach front, great deck space, volleyball court, firepit, and plenty of room. This home is perfected located and in walking distance to so many great things Carolina Beach has to offer. Owner did an amazing job with upgrades and decor! Highly recommend this place and look forward to staying here again.

Adult Weekend Getaway

Excellent place to stay!!! Parked on Friday and never got back in the car. The house had everything we needed and plenty of options within walking distance. Loved sitting by the fire pit at night listening to music. We will definitely be back!!

AMAZING

Every step of my experience was nothing short of amazing. Chris was absolutely wonderful and accommodating. The house “A Summers Rest” is nothing short of its name. The location was perfect; the ocean is literally your backyard and restaurants and shops are within walking distance. The house was beautifully decorated in mid-century elegance. I was impressed with all the fine details. I would recommend this house 10/10. It is perfect for a family…so much to do and so close to the beach. The sand volleyball court and fire pit was definitely used throughout our stay! Thank you again for sharing your house with our family!

Family Getaway

This home was perfect for our family stay. The house was stocked with everything we needed and the beds were comfortable. My kids loved the volleyball court in the backyard and the outdoor shower was an added bonus we took advantage of! Short drive to many great restaurants. The Host was helpful and accommodating, even helping to find a lost airpod after checkout.

The Owner has been in the business of building (as a licensed General Contractor) and maintaining rental property in the Wilmington area since the early 90's. Is a proud owner of this great beach bungalow in Carolina Beach (A Summer's Rest ). This is home was originally rebuilt in the summer of 2013 (updated in 2019) AND NOW REJUVINATED IN 2024, and is ready for your occupancy. He is a local resident who enjoys using his beach home when not being leased. We know you'll enjoy this home, and would like to thank you for considering staying in the home.

この宿泊施設のオーナーになった理由

This home is truly in one of the best spots on the beach. Besides the private beachfront lot that sits in front of the home, the location and proximity to the downtown area (bars, shopping, food, entertainment), lake (paddle boats, free Sunday night movies under the stars), shopping and food (ice cream and snack bar across the street) make it ideal. With only a short walk to all, you can forget about needing the car to get basic needs met, as well, the kids will have a fun and safe place to play (private lot) without constant need for supervision. The dunes protect them from being seen from the beach and the home keeps them from being near the street.
Make sure to check out the Fort Fisher Aquarium (Kure Beach), movies around the lake for kids on Sunday nights (in season and a short walk from my place) and all the great local attractions without having to leave the island. We have Farmer's Markets on Saturday mornings (in season) and a multitude of music and food festivals, all on island.

Adults can have fun by visiting one of a number of our local bar and grills. My favorite is the Sea Witch, where local and regional bands play, you can eat, listen and dance all night.
The Fat Pelican is a cool Beer dive, with an entire walk in cooler of craft and other beers to choose from. Walk in, pic anything you like and pay by the piece. A great locals place in the off season.
The Lazy Pirate is the other great local bar/grill. Good food, night life and their own volleyball courts make it a cool place to see and be seen.
