Ocean-view lodge with private hot tub among coastal pines
Summary:
Pull up a chair on the deck and watch the fog roll in over miles of open ocean. End the day in your private hot tub with the ocean as your soundtrack. Curl up by the fireplace as fog rolls in off the Pacific. Room for 7 in this 4-bedroom home. Near the heated community pool. The Sonoma Coast's best-kept secret is waiting for you. The ocean soundtrack never stops here -- waves at dawn, crashing surf at dusk. Morning fog and afternoon sun create a rhythm you'll settle into by day two.
The Space:
Find peace, privacy, and the ultimate natural setting among coastal evergreens at this dramatic Sea Ranch home. Designed by a renowned architect in the classic Sea Ranch style, this home makes the perfect retreat for a family or a group seeking wonder on the Northern California Coast.
This home is located just up the hillside from Shoreline Highway, where it's nestled in a private grove of trees with a view of the ocean below. Follow the well-maintained path down to Black Point Beach, Pebble Beach, and the breathtaking oceanfront Bluff Trail. The closest of Sea Ranch's three recreation centers - Moonraker, with a heated outdoor pool, saunas, and tennis/pickleball courts - is two miles south. The Sea Ranch Chapel (four miles), the Sea Ranch Golf Links (seven miles), and the conveniences of artsy, small-town Gualala (eight miles) are within an easy, scenic drive as well.
Step inside to be greeted by the innovative and inviting elements of design that made this seaside community such a special place. All around you, enjoy warm wood floors, exposed ceiling beams, and interior bridges crossing the incredible, three-story great room. From the great room, you can connect to covered porches and tree-lined outdoor sitting areas on three sides of the house. These include a sheltered patio for afternoon barbecues, an open terrace with a picnic table, and a lower terrace for taking in the nightly sunsets. There's even a private hot tub for some of the best stargazing you've ever experienced.
The same beauty awaits back indoors, whether you're playing board games by the wood-burning fireplace or curling up with a good book in the window seat overlooking the ocean. You'll also have an open kitchen and a dining room table with seating for everyone. Two areas are set up with desks for remote work: one on the second floor bridge and one in the first floor bedroom.
The four bedrooms are split between the three floors - one on the main level, one on the second level, and two on the third level. Two sky-lit bathrooms can be found on the first and second floors.

The Neighborhood:
Perched along the Sonoma Coast, The Sea Ranch is a nature lover's paradise -- think tidepools, wildflower meadows, and redwood groves at your doorstep. Nearby highlights include community heated pool and hot tub (South) (2-minute drive), Pebble Beach access trail (2-minute drive), Black Point headland trails (3-minute drive). Between the coastal trails, tidepools, heated pools, and The Sea Ranch Lodge's restaurant, you could fill a week without leaving the community. For provisions, Gualala (10 minutes south) has grocery stores, restaurants, and a gas station. Jenner and Bodega Bay are scenic drives south.
Getting Around:
The drive from San Francisco is approximately 2.5 hours via Highway 101 to Highway 1. Fly into Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) in Santa Rosa, about 1.5 hours east, and rent a car. The Highway 1 drive along the coast is spectacular and worth building into your travel day.
Other Things to Note:
Sea Ranch has three recreation centers with heated pools, saunas, and tennis courts. Access passes are provided with your stay -- check availability upon arrival as these shared amenities can be popular during peak times.
Exterior lighting is minimal by design to preserve the stunning dark sky -- bring a flashlight for evening walks and enjoy some of the best stargazing on the California coast.
December through April is whale season. You may spot gray whales breaching right from the bluff trail nearby. Wildflower season (April-June) transforms the coastal bluffs into a tapestry of color -- worth an extra walk on the trails. Summer offers long days and warm afternoons, though the iconic Sonoma Coast fog often rolls in at sunrise and clears by noon.
Cell service can be spotty along the coast. The home has WiFi for staying connected.
