Relax in the modern comfort of a cozy well-appointed guest suite surrounded by wooded views. The bedroom features a king bed, perfect for a restful night. Guests can relax in the living room, which includes a comfortable sofa bed. The bathroom offers a shower and a smart toilet/bidet, along with a hair dryer for convenience. Climate control keeps the space comfortable year-round.
This aviation-inspired space is perfect for nature lovers, pilots, and snow skiers in the winter. Experience beautiful sunsets to the west and amazing sunrises along the runway at this one-of-a-kind retreat. On fall weekends, enjoy apple season with fresh picked apples, apple cider donuts, and hard cider in our tasting room. Walk the property’s 2000 tree Apple Orchard or hike the 10 miles of trails at the adjacent 1,000 acre Witkowsky State Wildlife Area.

Located mid-field on the grass airstrip at Merkle Field (3IS4) just minutes from Chestnut Mountain Resort, The Galena Territory, and a scenic 12-mile drive to historic downtown Galena.

What a beautiful place to stay in the heart of the of the NW Illinois area! This is both a great fly-in destination and a drive-in stay as well. We will definitely be coming back.

Karen and her Husband were super friendly. Everything was perfect for our stay, the view is amazing. We got to see a couple planes land and take off. One of our favorite parts of the property was their dog Lucy, she was a sweet heart!!

We loved the guest suite! It was decorated so cute! The bed was super comfortable too! The runway was impeccable & we loved walking through the orchard. The views were amazing! Nathan & Karen are wonderful hosts! We also loved that we could bring our little dog with us for the weekend! The apples were gorgeous & very tasty AND don't miss out on the Apple Cider donuts! Yummy!! I highly recommend this location, especially for the aviators. Very unique place!

Loved our stay out in the country. We enjoyed local wineries around the area and shopping in Galena. We also were able to see a plane take off from the airfield which was a fun suprise!

Pet friendly, remote and beautiful getaway next to an orchard! We visited outside of apple season so it was nice and quiet. 10/10. Very close to Galena as well.

Both myself and Winston really enjoyed our recent stay. I got to experience "fancy toilet" :) and Winston could roam around the property. Condo was super clean and very nicely decorated. I wish we stayed 2 nights as originally planned...

This idyllic stay was the perfect fit for a relaxing Memorial Day weekend. We loved walking around the property and along the airstrip, stopping to soak in the sun and vistas. The landscape is so serene and pastoral—wonderful for stargazing, watching the sunset, and disconnecting. The suite itself was bright, well-appointed, so comfortable, and clean. It was also in a convenient location, with Galena, the Galena Territory, and Elizabeth within a 20-minute drive. Karen was quick to respond and accommodating. I'd love to stay again and would recommend!

The experience exceeded our expectations. Central to everything, but secluded enough to enjoy the peace of the countryside. A gorgeous property with an amazing one bedroom apartment tucked away mid-field on a 2900’ grass runway. For aviation enthusiasts (“avgeeks”) you feel like a barnstormer may appear at any moment. The decor was a perfect blend of orchard and aviation, and I personally enjoyed reading through the regional VFR charts and Terminal procedures left of the bookshelf over morning coffee. One other noteworthy mention, communication with the host was outstanding. You have to book this place, we’re going back again in a couple weeks. (Portland, Oregon).

Meandering along the backroads of the countryside we arrive at the entrance to Orchard Landing/Merkle Field. In the distance off the grass landing strip was a red modern hanger and the VRBO was attached. The rental itself was modern, comfortable, welcoming and so beautifully appointed. We were so pleased as the pictures posted came to life. The next morning, with coffee in hand, we went for a long walk with our golden doodle. It was beautiful and Willow loved the freedom. The neighboring field had cows and curious as to who the new visitors were, they strolled down the hill to welcome us. As luck would have it, on the other side of the hanger was a quaint store where they sold newly picked apples, freshly baked apple cider donuts and apple cider smoothies. Here we were enjoying the treats when Piper scouts started to land on the strip. They were flying in to pick up apples and enjoy the day. Pinch me...it was AMAZING! How often does one have such a unique and fabulous experience. The remainder of our time we explored. Of course, we strolled down the historic main street of downtown Galena and shopped but also ventured off beyond to Mineral Point, took in the scenic views of patchwork fields in the rural landscape, enjoyed a libation at the restaurant on Apple Lake and even drove to check out the Field of Dreams. How do I summarize our 4-night stay? It was nothing short of magical! Our hosts...Karen, Nathan and their dog Lucy were so nice & made us feel at home.

This place is adorable! My husband is an aviation buff and we spent the night for his birthday. We loved it. It is so clean and comfortable. We will definitely stay here again.Bonus was the Apple Store next door. Best apple cider donuts !!!

The property is very clean and the location is close to Galena, making it a very good location. We enjoyed the quiet and pleasant outdoor surroundings by the orchard. The decor of the unit is very modern with a classic touch. We felt safe and comfortable. The accommodations met our needs and we enjoyed the privacy. Please remember to bring bottled water and any other last minute necessities as the location is not near local shops. We look forward to staying here again in the future.
