Sitting at 3,200 feet in the western North Carolina mountains, The Perch at Pisgah is a five-bedroom, 3.5-bath log cabin retreat built for groups who want space, beauty, and the kind of altitude-cooled air that makes summer feel like a different season entirely. The Black Mountain range — anchored by Mt. Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Rockies — fills the horizon from nearly every room in the house, and four decks give you four different ways to drink it all in. The Blue Ridge Parkway is just minutes away.
Sleeping
The cabin sleeps up to 12 across five distinct sleeping spaces. The open master suite features a cathedral pine beam ceiling, dedicated workspace, a corner soaking tub, dual vanity with dual mirrors, and a door that opens directly onto a private deck with mountain views. Two additional king bedrooms with en-suites, reading chairs, and desks offer comfortable privacy. A fourth bedroom offers two twin beds, perfect for kids or additional guests. The fairy-light loft adds a magical bonus sleeping and hangout space with a daybed, trundle, game table, and LoveSac seating.
Living & Dining
The great room is the heart of the cabin — soaring cathedral pine beam ceilings, a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, a large sectional, and picture windows that frame the Black Mountain range like a living painting. A telescope is provided for daytime ridge-watching and nightly stargazing. The open dining room seats up to twelve at a farmhouse trestle table, with sliding glass doors to the deck and a full kitchen bar with four leather stools for casual meals. The fully equipped knotty pine kitchen features granite countertops, new stainless appliances, and a dedicated coffee station with a Cuisinart dual brewer, burr grinder, and electric kettle.
Downstairs offers a second large common space with it's own complete coffee bar, game table and large sectional for sipping your morning beverage, watching the big game or just hanging taking in the view.
Outdoor Spaces
Four decks wrap the cabin at multiple levels, each with its own personality. The main deck features a propane fire pit with lounge seating and a dining table for six with a Weber grill — all with unobstructed Black Mountain range views. The primary bedroom deck offers a two-person hanging egg chair. Two covered deck (perfect for those less-than-perfect weather days) have lots of varied seating for whatever your group members are in the mood for. Additional spaces offer a rope hammock, a hanging egg chair, and quiet corners to read, nap, or simply watch the ridge.
The Details
The cabin is genuinely dog-welcoming — a dog amenity basket with bowl, blanket, and leash is provided, along with a dedicated dog wash station. An EV charger is available on-site. 2 sets of full-size washer and dryers. The loft game library includes board games for all ages. Smart TVs every bedroom and common space.
Location
The Perch at Pisgah sits just outside Burnsville, NC, with easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway (currently closed), Mt. Mitchell State Park, Pisgah National Forest, and the charming restaurants and shops of downtown Burnsville, Spruce Pine and Marion. At 3,200 feet, temperatures run 10–15°F cooler than the valley — making this a favorite summer escape as well as a stunning fall foliage destination.
There is an owners closet (loft) and housekeeping closet (lower level) inside the house that are locked and not available to guests. In addition, the two cabinets and tools in the garage should not be used by guests in any way.
We live off site, but are always happy to help. All guests receive our guidebook to the area, which also contains a house manual with information to assist you during your stay.
Located near Mount Mitchell and Mount Mitchell Golf Course (currently closed), the neighborhood is a beautiful community nestled into the mountains with a serene river view. The roads are maintained by the HOA and are plowed in winter. We do recommend AWD or 4WD in winter.
___
Mountain towns keep their magic tucked away—hidden waterfalls, artist studios, backroad orchards, gem hunting, fishing holes, and starlit overlooks. Explore Penland School of Craft, hike Mt Mitchell, Roan Mountain or Linville Falls, float the Toe River, or ski at Hatley Pointe, Beech, or Sugar Mountain. Enjoy cozy cafés, local breweries, and hillside orchards. Whether you chase sunsets or stargaze at night, this region is pure Blue Ridge beauty.
Hurricane Helene: Our area was affected by Hurricane Helene, but the landscape has largely recovered and we’re basically back to normal. Neighborhood roads and nearly all routes to Burnsville, Spruce Pine and Marion have been repaired and are open, and restaurants, attractions, and businesses are operating as usual with only a few exceptions.
Portions of the Blue Ridge Parkway remain closed but are scheduled to re-open later this summer and the Mount Mitchell Golf Course is closed for golf play; however, the grounds are still open to guests for walking, dog outings, and fishing. Grassy Creek Golf Course is open, and Roan Mountain at Carver’s Gap at the Appalachian trail, along with many other nearby hiking trails, are fully accessible. Please see our digital guidebook for recommendations and current options.
