This 3 story house sits in the famed Historical District, just minutes away from the Seawall and the Strand ! But, more importantly...this house has HISTORY! This house was built in 1914 for an Attorney who was the main Attorney and Controller of John Charles League who owned the 'castle' which is catty corner from this house. John League was a land developer and financier who developed land northwest of Galveston which is now League City. Imagine the conversations, the deals, the rumors, the arguments, the planning...that took place in this house and in the 'Castle' across the street! Imagine the parties that were thrown in this house back in the early 1900's!
Close your eyes and imagine what life was like in 1914....it was the start of WWI, Henry Ford introduced an assembly line for the Model T, the first commercial airline flight was made in Florida, Wrigley Field opened in Chicago, Babe Ruth made his major league debut with the Red Sox, and the Federal Reserve Bank opened. There was no electricity in 1914...which means no lights, no air conditioners, no washing machines or dryers, etc. I didn't realize the historical significance of this house while growing up in it, but, I do now! Sitting on the front porch late at night...looking at Broadway...you can almost see the horse drawn carriages passing by, and the couples walking about...the Gentlemen with their long coats and top hats and the women with their big hats and long dresses. This house was built for one of the big wigs of the island back in 1914. I plan on keeping its history alive!
