April and Jody are educators and nature-lovers, pet-lovers, kayakers, travelers, neophyte birders, gardeners, caregivers, and husband and wife. In the mountains where we live full time, we generate our own power with solar panels and live off-the-grid, enjoy bluegrass music, art classes, and living in the woods. Our cat Jasper, whom we found on a rainy, cold day at a boat landing in the Lowcountry, loves traveling and road trips. He often visits Broadview with us.
We first came to Palm Key in 2004 to teach a workshop for Jasper County middle school teachers that was being held on site--and before we left that weekend, we knew we had to come back! We fell in love with the lowcountry, the marsh, and this community, which was founded to offer folks the opportunity to breathe fresh air, explore nature, create, learn, teach, and grow. Palm Key began to be a regular getaway for us, and we began learn about lowcountry marshes, blackwater swamps, and the rich history of the area. We’ve been charmed by the people we’ve met, the little towns we’ve visited, and the connections to the past, back to the early 1700's in some places. The more we learned and saw, the more we wanted to explore and know!
