We’re a “coastal family,” raised on the East Coast, although our military travels took us around the world (including to Hawaii for several tours). Upon retirement from military life, we settled in Florida, embarking on second careers and raising our family.
When we purchased The Conch Bungalow, our friends thought we were a little bit bonkers to take on the daunting task of a full restoration, so forlorn was the poor house when we first saw it. But with an eye for retro-design, and employing one of St. Augustine's finest general contractors specializing in historic home restoration, we were able to retain the home’s original 1920s charm and restore those accents that had been destroyed over time, as well as create the look and style of an “old Florida” home with a retro-modern, Florida twist. The end result is The Conch Bungalow!
As the promoters of the Floridiana Festival & Highwaymen Artist Show, we have an understanding of Florida’s rich cultural and tourism legacies, and strive to provide the discriminating traveler with an authentic “Old Florida” experience at the house. Many of our Guests have remarked that a stay at The Conch Bungalow is like a journey through Florida’s past!
Now a comfortable vacation spot for ourselves, we are delighted to share The Conch Bungalow with travelers appreciative of upscale decor and lodging, and St. Augustine’s rich history. We also offer another “themed” weekly vacation property – The Hula House (#717399) - in the beach community of Lewes, Delaware (the first City, in the first State), an early 1900s Victorian-era home decorated in vintage Hawaiiana.
