The host was very communicative and the place had a lot of the little things that make things easier (shampoo, conditioner, kitchen utensils, etc). The sleeping arrangements worked out well and were as described.

This is a beautiful house, checked every box for our stay! Beautiful chalet style, with every amenity you’d ever need. The sunken hot tub was a great way to unwind after a day of wondering around the local trails. Would recommend staying here (and will stay here myself again)!

We had a great stay at Sarah's place. It was a good location for day trips to Whittier, Portage Lake and the Kenai River for rafting. The space was very tasteful and had a fun tree house atmosphere. The kids loved the hot tub.

Wonderful experience! Beautifully decorated home- I loved all the Alaska decor. Super comfortable beds. We didn’t have a car and walked all over Girdwood- the closest place to eat was just over a 1/2 mile walk. Once you get out the main road there is a nice rail trail. Beautiful area!!

We enjoyed this beautiful chalet for 2 nites from Jul 16-18 2025. Large and spacious for 4 adults with comfortable bedding and large rooms! Spotless and tidy, this chalet had all the amenities you would need - especially the kitchen! Furnishings were cozy and comfortable. The hot tub was a real treat after a long glacier cruise!Sarah communicated well with a detailed book provided with everything from the hot tub instructions to all the local dining spots making our short time more enjoyable.We really enjoyed our time at the Chalet and would recommend it to others! Thank you for sharing your Chalet with us Sarah!

This place was unique and beautiful. Kitchen had useful items, spices, etc. Could is a little more silverware but a clean, comfortable, fun house! Host was responsive to text messages and the house was comfortable. Added bonus, you could walk to an easy waterfall hike - Virgin Creek Falls. Great location and will stay there again.

Summer in Girdwood

The property has very cool architecture & is surrounded by pretty woods. It’s a short drive to the amenities in Girdwood as well as many nearby trails. It was well-stocked with kitchen supplies, extra towels, shampoo, conditioner & laundry detergent…all appreciated when you’re traveling & spending time outdoors. We enjoyed the hot tub & large dining table for eating & playing games. Beds were comfortable. We would stay here again!

Quiet neighborhood close to Anchorage & Whittier

Girdwood was the perfect location for our Alaskan vacation! With close proximity to Anchorage & Whittier (and only two hours to Seward), walkable distance to shops, three bedrooms, two baths, a hot tub, and all of the amenities of home, the rental on Alpine Meadows was great. We would definitely stay again!

Lovely home, layout issues

The home was nice, and we appreciated the informative binder, but there are a few areas that could use improvement. The photos should be updated, as the exterior didn’t look as pristine as shown, with some fading and possible growth on the siding. The cleaning could also be more thorough—we found socks and underwear behind the bunk beds which may still be there, some surfaces were sticky, and there was a load of dishes that hadn’t been put away.The layout was a bit inconvenient for us. The only king-size bed required walking through another bedroom to reach the bathroom, which wasn’t ideal, and the queen bed wasn’t spacious enough for us, especially with a CPAP machine. Had we known the layout in advance, we might have chosen a different place.Before leaving, we washed and through in the dryer all the bath towels, washcloths, and hand towels, ran the dishwasher, and emptied all the trash bins, replacing the bags. Some dishes that couldn’t go in the dishwasher were left in the sink.Overall, it’s a nice home, but updating the photos and binder would help set more accurate expectations. While it wasn’t the best fit for us, others may find it more suitable.

Darren and Sarah Mattingley, two life long Alaskans who live in the beautiful resort town of Girdwood with their children and many pets. We like to collect unique properties and transform them into works of art.

This property was originally built as a small cabin in the late 1960's and was remodeled and added on to in 1985. When we purchased it in 2014 we saw great potential for this property and loved the custom work that was done several years back so we continued on with the rustic theme and added another wing with an additional bedroom while updating the existing structure.

Girdwood is a small valley with limited land where the average lot size is about a quarter acre. This home is situated on a larger than average lot but what attracted us to this property was the treed lot and overall charm of the home.
