Wonderful Montana retreat…

This was our second time visiting Victoria and Stuart’s wonderful home and it was fantastic. The place is super clean and tidy with a timeless western decor. Victoria and Stuart are friendly hosts and very responsive to any questions or needs that may arise. Fully stocked kitchen let us cook meals with ease and having full laundry facilities helped keep our clothes clean after a full day in the mountains or exploring Yellowstone. The river was a bit muddy and high from the late winter melt but we were able to enjoy the sounds of the rapids from the back deck. We hope to be back again next year!

Amazing Property, Amazing Host.

The property was honestly better than expected. The river was beautiful and just yards away. Upon arriving the hosts had a gift basket filled with goodies. Victoria's cookies she made and included in the basket were to die for. Tons of wildlife in the area and right in the yard. There was a few deer that were regulars to the property. You could go outside and the deer would just watch you while you watched them. Very cozy home with all the essentials you might need either for a short stay or an extended stay. I'm ever visiting the area again I'll definitely plan on staying with them. Thank you for a comfortable stay!!

Beautiful home and views

The home is beautifully decorated and very clean. We felt very "at home" the moment we walked in the door. Our host met us at the property shortly after we arrived and explained more about the property and the surrounding area. She also left a welcome basket with homemade goodies! The property is located within driving distance to a lot of activities and towns. After a day out and about, coming home to put our feet in the river or sit on one of the two porches was a wonderful way to relax. We very much enjoyed our stay!

Great location for hiking

We enjoyed our stay, especially based on the location for hiking. We were able to easily get to trailheads in the Crazies and Absaroka-Beartooth. We did have to work a couple days of our stay and the internet had no problem with multiple video calls happening at once. This was also one of the cleanest Vrbos we've been in and probably one with the sharpest knives! Victoria provided excellent communication and it was nice to have an opportunity to meet Victoria and Stuart as well.

Slice of Montana Outdoor Heaven!

Victoria and Stuart are wonderful hosts and their property is absolutely perfect for anyone seeking a true outdoor Montana getaway. The house is tastefully decorated with every possible amenity- especially the kitchen! It was the perfect place for me and my sons to enjoy the mountains and river activities we love- fishing, mountain biking, hiking… and Bozeman was just a short 20 minute drive for restaurants and shopping. Victoria and Stuart were accommodating and quick to answer any questions or needs. They’re great people and we’re so thankful they offer others the chance to immerse ourselves in the beautiful Montana mountains.

Fishing get away

This was our 4th trip to the Shields Retreat and the property is beautifully maintained and the house is well equipped and very clean. Private and easy access to the Shields river and a short drive into Livingston for dinner or any needed items. Visited the Sage spa (about 30 mins away)for a spa treatment while the boys fished

We all enjoyed watching the wildlife right from the patio deck!

The hosts, Victoria and Stu were very accommodating. The house is very comfortable and cozy. Lots of added touches...we all enjoyed the treats from the welcome basket! Great location with plenty of outdoor activities.

Lovely, well-appointed home

We had a wonderful time during our week-long vacation to Montana. The house was clean, comfortable, and well-stocked, including a generous welcome basket of local treats from the hosts. The house is closer to the main road than the pictures would indicate, but the location is still remote, quiet and very relaxing. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely House by the River!

Our primary reason for selecting this property was the prospect of walking out the door and fishing in the Shields River. But when we arrived, we realized that the river was closed to fishing due to the heat and low water levels! We were quite disappointed, but as it turned out, this was one of the most enjoyable and beautiful places we have ever stayed! It is furnished with comfortable furniture and beds, beautiful drapes, wonderful lighting, interesting artwork, lovely gardens--I could go on and on! (By the way--the pictures on the website really do not do it justice.) We cooked most meals and enjoyed the quality cookware, utensils, flatware and great barbeque. The setting is spectacular, with several deer running and playing right outside the back door and the hills and mountains in the background! Everything you need or can think of is provided. Kudos to Victoria and Stuart for creating such a wonderful space to call home for a few days!

One word: fantastic

Fantastic. My family (2 adults +14 & 12yos) had a great stay. All you need to know is that Victoria (the owner) had a welcome basket waiting for us on arrival - a nice touch to go with the well kept and well appointed house. She was super easy to work with for an unusual request we had. I'd have to work hard to find anything to nitpick; maybe that when sitting outside you could occasionally hear some of the louder vehicles on the road in back? (But they meld into the sound of the river, so no big deal.) And the views...! You can walk the private road, or just it on the deck and soak it in. Easy access to town and sights, and the house is not missing anything. We'd go back tomorrow if I could.

The Perfect Montana Retreat

Our stay at Shields River Retreat was exceptional. Beautifully decorated, immaculately clean, super cozy with the fire, set in the stunning tranquil Shields Valley. We honestly did not want to leave. The kitchen is equipped with everything you can think of and the host Victoria even left an incredible welcome hamper for us upon arrival. It was by far the best VRBO we've stayed in, a true gem. We will be back!

Christmas Vacation

I can not say enough about how awesome our stay was at Sheilds River Resort. Victoria was so helpful and wonderful to meet. The gift basket was so thoughtful with so many goodies!! The house was perfectly decorated for Christmas. It was the perfect location. We were minutes from Livingston. The most perfect little town. We were only about an hour from the north gate of Yellowstone. West Yellowstone was a very doable drive too. We enjoyed snowmobiling, hiking, cross-country skiing, wildlife watching, and so much more. We went to Yellowstone twice. For a small family, this house is absolutely PERFECT. The boys loved the river and outdoors. Our time in Montana went by way too fast. When we go again, we will definitely be trying to stay at the Sheilds River House. Thank you so much for helping make our Christmas great!!

A piece of Paradise in Paradise Valley

Riverfront idyll in Shields Valley was absolutely perfect! The owners have thought of everything needed to make the house comfortable. The location, on the Shields River, was close to Livingston, but still away from everything. Wildlife, was around the property every day.

Wow great property

This is a terrific vacation house. It is has been completely updated and is very comfortable. Both the living area and outside deck encouraged relaxation. It has a relatively private location with abundant wildlife and the Shields river nearby, yet is sufficiently close to town. Victoria and Stuart are warm hosts and provided everything, and I mean everything you could need. We could not have been more pleased with our stay and look forward to returning.

Fantastic Place

This is the best property we have ever stayed with Home Away or VRBO. That is saying a lot as we have rented many times before and never have we had a bad experience. This place is better than the pictures. The owners are so nice and attentive. They have a real special place here. My wife and I just loved the living room and kitchen area. And though I would have never thought about not having one the service area in the back of the house that housed the washer and dryer was enormous and a real convenient after a long day fishing. You can not go wrong staying here.

Just Right !

Our family chose this property because of its rural setting yet close to Livingston, MT. It is a great location. Quiet, with the Shields River only steps away. A lot of wildlife in a idyllic setting. The Yellowstone River is only two miles away. The house was super clean and very well provisioned with all of the necessities. The living area is very comfy and inviting and is a great place to gather. Victoria and Stuart are such nice people and we look forward to seeing them again. The Bryan Family

Absolutely wonderful!

My husband and I stayed here for 2 weeks! It wasn't long enough!! I could move in. But to keep this brief, Victoria has thought of everything and provided so many details to make a stay comfortable and easy. The house is spotless, so nicely decorated and beautiful outside as well. Some of the extras were a cooler, coffee filters, paper towels, toilet tissue, dish and bath soap to name a few! Victoria provided a beautiful gift basket with wine, home made jams, cookies, a MT dish towel, coffee and grocery tote! I could go on and on. We went to Yellowstone 3 times and included Teton National Park on one of the visits. We also went to the Custer Battlefield and many other wonderful drives. We explored Livingston, Bozeman ( museum of the Rockies), Beartooth Hwy,drive up to Ringling through Wilsall and Clyde Park. My point is this location is good to see so much of Montana and the northwest corner of Wyoming. I miss it already!!!! Thank you Victoria and Stuart. Please say hello to Your beautiful grandchildren. Folks, you need to stay here! It's wonderful!

Wonderful vacation home

This is my third time booking with VRBO. They have all been great but this place is the best. The house was very clean, modern, comfortable and well equiped. The location was perfect for visiting Yellowstone National Park and other places in Montana. The home is situated in the country and is very private. Some mornings we would see a family of mule deer. Victoria is great and would respond promptly to any inquiries. We would definitely stay here again.

Shields River Retreat

We just returned from a week vacation and will definitely return. This home is immaculate, comfortable and has a great location a little bit from town. My husband and son enjoyed fly fishing just outside and we we spent a day at Yellowstone just an hour away. Convenient location, great value, private and so comfy.

Beautiful Setting

Wonderful home, beautiful setting

The house was beautifully furnished and immaculate. Our welcome even included a goodies basket and a visit from the homeowner to make sure everything was in order. We spent a lot of our week exploring the area including Yellowstone Park but looked forward to coming home at the end of the day. It was a very comfortable space for four people. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a serene, quiet place to spend their vacation.

Lovely spot in Livingston

What a great home to stay in while we were in Montana! The location, views and the house are really great. The owners could not have been more helpful from reserving the house to helping with the wifi. The house was fully equipped plus cozy and very quiet. Being so close to Livingston made the trip very fun too. We enjoyed a raft trip and some wonderful hikes in the area too. We will definitely recommend this rental.

I am a transplant to Montana from Sydney, Australia via London and New York. Despite having grown up in a large coastal city in Australia, and worked most of my career in the corporate world in big cities, life in the country was the dream - a place to breathe fresh air, take things a little more slowly, appreciate nature, enjoy quality of life and raise a family. My husband is a local - he grew up here, went to school here, runs a business here and his family all still live here.

It was an easy decision for us to start our family life together here, and create a home for our two wonderful children. We love where we live, and hope to be able to share it with you someday.

We have lived on a neighboring property since 2008 and love living in the Shields Valley. A rare opportunity to acquire this particular property presented in 2013 - we knew how great it was from living next door - a diamond in the rough, with river frontage and private river access; an ideal size of 7 acres with interesting original out-buildings and an old ranch house with great bones; as well as an ideal location in its proximity to Livingston and area amenities and attractions, yet still being out of town enough to feel country.

The guest house is the original home on the property. After extensive renovations and remodeling the end result is an inviting, comfortable retreat. All on one level it is ideally laid out for easy living, with a well-equipped kitchen, plenty of counter space, dishwasher and breakfast bar. The kitchen opens onto the great room with vaulted barn-like whitewashed ceilings, large picture windows, gas fireplace with stone surround, tasteful furnishings and dining area with French doors opening onto a large outdoor deck. The home is set up as we would like it set up for ourselves, our family and friends, so there are a lot more of the little extras and conveniences that make it even more like a home away from home.

Right on the Shields River, fishing access doesn't get much better. River access also provides easy opportunity for swimming and tubing. With river and mountain views from inside the home and from the deck, country living here is idyllic.
