Casa do Mestrinho is a historic family home, restored over many years with respect for its original character and the history of the place.
It is neither a standard accommodation nor a recent building designed for mass tourism. It is a lived-in house, with a real history, natural imperfections and authenticity — the result of a long-term project carried out largely by our own hands.
Here we value conservation, ecology and respect for what already existed. We have retained the essence of the original house and sought to breathe new life into it without stripping it of its character.
The house is set in a peaceful location, with a garden and views of the Douro, where you can enjoy al fresco dining, barbecues and dinner beneath the vineyards, in a serene and relaxed atmosphere.
It is a place that offers a balance between the countryside and the city: the peace and tranquillity of a rural area, with Porto and city life just a few minutes’ drive away.
The location also makes it easy to explore the region: the River Douro, Gaia Biological Park, the beaches of Gaia and the entire northern coastline — from Aveiro to Guimarães — on day trips.
Espinhaço is a restored historic site, simple and unassuming, sparsely populated, with a warm and genuine atmosphere.
This is a place for those seeking stays with character. For those who love houses with history, gardens, nature and a connection to the land. For those who value authenticity over luxury, experience over service.
We are not a hotel. We do not offer formal services or a standardised experience. We are a family who have opened our home, with all that this entails: care, a warm welcome, and also the natural imperfections of a lived-in space.
We are delighted to welcome people who identify with this way of life — who respect the house, the silence and the spirit of the place.
In return, we offer a unique space, steeped in history, surrounded by nature and with a genuine connection to the local area.

The house is situated in a quiet mature area of Villa nova de Gaia, south of the River Douro. It has a magical garden with a beautiful view of the river. The city of Porto is 15 mns away by car and the area provides easy access to supermarkets and motorways North and South as well as the Douro Valley. Teresa and Pedro are very friendly and helpful hosts

Super experience

The house is located in a super quiet area very close to river Douro. We lived the garden for sunbaths, our meal and dinner with view on the river and city of Porto. The house is comfortable and well equipped with key services nearby. We stayed for 9 days and for sure we will be back. The hosting family is super nice; we loved them.

Late summer vacation 2024

The house has a beautiful setting above the Douro River and a wonderful garden for watching the sunset. The house was very well equipped with all what is needed. We has a warm welcome and were given all the support needed.

Nous nous avons écourté notre séjour à cause d'une odeur persistante d'humidité et d' egoûts, la place de parking est difficile à trouver. Il est mpossible de se garer au parking gratuit du métro pour le prendre, ce parking est toujours plein et il n'y a que des parcmètres avec une durée de 2 heures maximum. Logement à éviter pour les seniors en effet les WC sont en bas alors que les chambres sont en haut et l'escalier est très périlleux.

Stationnement Le logement dispose de places de parking gratuites dans la rue à quelque metres. ll existe également des parkings à Gaia et à Porto où il est possible de laisser la voiture toute la journée. Ces informations sont clairement indiquées. 2. Propreté et entretien Après votre signalement, nous avons vérifié le logement et n’avons constaté aucune odeur. Cependant, conformément aux règles de la maison, le client doit aérer quotidiennement la maison, ce qui n'a pas été respecté. 3. Accès aux chambres et sanitaires Les informations concernant l’accès aux chambres et aux WC sont précisées dans l’annonce. Cela permet aux personnes ayant des difficultés de mobilité ou aux seniors de prendre leurs decisions. 4. Arrivée et indications Nous fournissons toujours des instructions détaillées pour faciliter l’arrivée. Suivre ces indications aide à éviter toute confusion, perte de temps ou situation stressante. Les clients doivent lire et répondre aux messages et communiquer leur heure d'arrivée. 5. Paiement Le règlement doit être effectué de avant l'arrivée, via la plateforme, comme indiqué dans les messages de VRBO, ou directement sur place à l’arrivée. Nous regrettons que votre expérience n’ait pas été optimale et espérons que ces précisions aideront les futurs voyageurs.

Wir fühlen uns sehr wohl in diesem Haus. Es ist sehr gemütlich und geschmackvoll eingerichtet.Es war alles vorhanden was man so braucht.Der Garten ist wunderschön und von dort hat man eine sehr schöne Aussicht auf den Douro Fluss.Dieser ist auch fussläufig zu erreichen.Die Parkplatzsituation ist etwas schwierig, aber wenn man sich an die Angaben und der Beschreibung hält, auch kein Problem.Herzlichen Dank an Teresa und Pedro

Séjour formidable

Nous avons passé 6 jours-nuits dans cette adorable maison traditionnelle portugaise, encore dans son jus, même si bien restaurée par les propriétaires. Le petit jardin avec sa terrasse est fantastique : très joliment aménagé en terrasses, avec une grande variété de plantes et une vue sur le Douro. Un petit bijou ! Même si la maison est pentue (peu accessible pour les personnes à mobilité réduite), elle est très bien située, à quelques petites minutes de Vila Nova de Gaia où on peut garer sa voiture pour se rendre en métro à Porto. Bon emplacement, donc, pour découvrir la ville et ses alentours. Coup de coeur pour le grand parc biologique, situé à Avintes même!Teresa nous a très gentiment accueillis. Elle habite juste à côté avec sa famille, qui est d'une grande discrétion.Nous recommandons.

Sehr schönes altes Haus mit traumhaften Garten.

Wir haben 2 wunderschöne Wochen in demHaus verbracht. Wir haben es sehr genossen, Zeit in dem traumhaften Garten zu verbringen. Sehr nett sind auch die Gastgeber Theresa und Pedro. Die Lage ist super. Im Ort Avintes gibt es alles. Läden, Restaurants, Flussbad und vieles mehr. Nach Porto sind es ca. 15 Minuten. Der Ort ist auch gut gelegen, für viele andere Ausflüge. Wir können die Ferienwohnung sehr empfehlen.

Cette maison est située à Avintes, à 9 kilomètres de Porto. Malheureusement, il ne nous appartient pas de changer l'emplacement de la maison, mais c'est au client de choisir l'endroit qu'il souhaite pour ses vacances. La cliente n'ayant pas lu l'annonce ni même le message envoyé avec l'adresse, elle s'est promenée dans Porto à la recherche de la maison. C'est pourquoi elle s'est mise en colère. Si une souris est entrée dans la maison, c'est une situation anormale, mais cela peut arriver. Il s'agit d'une maison avec un jardin : un mulot pourrait y entrer. Cette situation aurait dû nous être signalée dès qu'elle a été découverte et nous l'aurions traitée immédiatement. Nous sommes très stricts en ce qui concerne le nettoyage de la maison. Die Unterkunft war sehr ruhig gelegen. Supermärkte, Restaurants waren nicht fußläufig erreichbar Es handelt sich um ein sehr altes Haus, so dass viele Dielen geknarzt haben, die Räume etwas eng waren und es zum Teil feucht roch. Vielel der Möbel sind schon sehr in die Jahre gekommen. Aber die Vermieter waren außerordentlich freundlich, bemüht und jederzeit hilfsbereit.

Für zukünftige Gäste: ja, das Haus ist sehr alt, aber es ist sorgfältig gepflegt und sauber. Es ist ein altes Haus für diejenigen, die alte Häuser mögen. Bei dieser Bauart sind die Böden und Innenwände aus Holz, es ist eine solide Struktur. Wenn man drinnen Aerobic macht (wie diese Gäste es taten), wackeln die Böden, Wände und Decken. Wir können diese Art von Übungen in unserem Haus nicht zulassen, da die Decken aus sehr altem Gips bestehen und beschädigt werden könnten. Wir haben sie einfach freundlich gebeten, es nicht im Haus zu machen. Nein, die Dielen knarren nicht, wenn man nur im Haus herumläuft. Ja, die Zimmer sind klein, wie Sie auf den Fotos sehen können. Wir haben uns entschieden, bei der Restaurierung die Originalität des Hauses zu erhalten. Ja, die Möbel sind sehr alt, aber das war eine bewusste und ökologisch bewusste Entscheidung unsererseits. Nein, das Haus riecht nicht nach Feuchtigkeit, es wird rigoros gereinigt und alle 24 Stunden gelüftet. La maison se trouve dans un vieux quartier aux rues étroites et escarpées, une zone peuplée mais avec très peu de circulation, ce qui garantit une certaine tranquillité. Nous recommandons toujours à nos hôtes de suivre attentivement les instructions que nous leur envoyons pour se rendre à la maison et de garer leur voiture quelques mètres plus haut, là où la rue est plus large. Le stationnement est toujours gratuit dans la rue.

Idéal pour visiter Porto

Nous avons apprécié la proximité avec Porto. La maison se trouve egalement à 1h de Braga, Guimaraes et Aveiro! Les propriétaires habitent à côté de la location mais sont discrets et répondent vite.

Aangenaam verblijf en heel vriendelijke en behulpzame huiseigenaren

Teresa en Pedro waren behulpzaam en altijd bereikbaar voor vragen en hulp. Wij mochten kruiden uit hun moestuin pakken om te koken. Wij kregen zelfs groente uit hun moestuin cadeau. Lokatie was fijn als uitvalbasis om natuur, steden en stranden rondom Porto te verkennen. Typisch Portugese inrichting en bedden. Alles met aandacht ingericht en onderhouden.

Un séjour très agréable

Nous avons passé un séjour très agréable, dans l'agglomération de Porto. La location est conforme à la description et l'accueil par Teresa et Pedro est très chaleureux. La plage à proximité permet de se baigner sereinement et le jardin, avec sa vue sur le Douro, permet de passer des moments au calme très agréablement. Rural stay outside of Porto

Mixed reviews about this property. Location was good, but a car is needed. Short driving distance to a free park & ride to take the train into Porto. House itself was too old for us, beds were small, television, living room sofa (futon) and chair in desperate need of updating. Kitchen and bathroom were adequate and the wifi was excellent.

Très bonne accueil, très belle maison super bien situé, coin tranquille avec enfants , ou amies , plein de choses à faire autour , maison bien équipé je recommande et l’hote Très agréable a votre écoute

We bought this property because we fell in love with the building: because it is old, because it offers not only an outdoor area but also a garden and a yard where we can grow our own food. Because despite being close to the city, it allows us to sleep quietly, surrounded by silence, as if we lived in the countryside. Because we can go out for a walk without needing a car. Because here there are still good neighborly relations, because it is a place with history and it’s surrounded by beautiful natural spaces. Because it is a unique house situated in a village with its own identity.

You can visit several nearby cities: not only Porto, the closest one, but also Guimarâes, Braga, Vila do Conde and Viana do Castelo) and, when coming back, you can eat and sleep as if you were in the countryside.
