Amazing hospitality, delightful decor (take me to the Jersey Shore or the Oregon Coast), clean and comfortable, off-street parking, beautiful forest setting, well equipped kitchen, if not inclined to cook, then eateries of every type a close scenic drive away. We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage is cute, clann and full of thoughtful Items from the hosts. Don and Candy were very welcoming and readily available if there are any issues, which there were none. Location is great for enjoying the Payson area. Would highly recommend.

Weekend getaway from the valley

We were greeted by the best hosts ever-Don and Candy! They made sure the place was perfectly clean and adorably decorated. It’s such a serene environment and cozy atmosphere for a romantic getaway. We enjoy staying here and will continue to come as often as we can. Best place to stay in Payson!

Lovely Quaint Cottage

Mountain retreat

More Than Expected

Delightful Retreat from the Phoenix Heat!

This was our first experience going through VRBO for vacation accommodations. It was a very smooth process to make the reservation. Don and Candy were great at communicating with us prior to our arrival so we could schedule our time to meet them and gain access into the cottage. "A Shore Thing" is an adorable cottage just north of the Payson city limits but just a few minutes back to town. The property itself had everything you could ask for including a very nice lighted patio area and also a BBQ. There are lots of shade trees to create an even more comfortable outside setting. We had everything we needed inside as well. The cottage was very comfortable and clean, and Don and Candy went out of their way to meet our expectations. We would definitely return to "A Shore Thing" in the future if traveling in this direction. Thank you Don and Candy for a great week as we escaped the Phoenix heat!

Amazing gem! Ten stars!

While dealing with the passing of my father-in-law, I had the chance to stay at A Shore Thing for several days, and it was the bright spot in a difficult week! Don and Candy are very warm and welcoming, and were a pleasure to talk with! Parker is a sweet hound who welcomes a good skritch behind the ears! Also important, of course, is the property. It was impeccably clean - I have NEVER stayed in a VRBO that was so immaculate! Candy told me that they keep it dander-free for allergic guests, and I certainly appreciated the lack of odors from cleaning products! Not a single dust mote dared to float through the air! The kitchen was well stocked with everything I needed and more, and it was easy to work in. I was able to cook breakfast each day, and dinner a couple of nights. Likewise, the living area, bathroom and bedroom were full of everything I could have needed or wanted! And, for me, a plus is that the cottage is QUIET. With the windows closed, you hear no outside noise, and I was able to sleep each night like a log. The outdoor space is wonderful, with lots of chairs to relax in, and a fountain (complete with sharks!) to provide a counterpoint to the birds singing in the trees. It was a shame I had to leave to go home - I loved every moment of my time with Don and Candy! You won't regret booking A Shore Thing, and I can't wait to go back!

Warm Hosts, Thoughtful Touches, and a Memorable Stay

We had a wonderful stay at Candy and Don’s charming vacation home! From the moment we arrived, they were incredibly welcoming—offering a warm introduction and sharing helpful local tips for both our visit and our upcoming U.S. travels. The whimsical decor throughout the house gave it a fun, personal touch, and the surprise gift basket made us feel right at home. We especially appreciated their recommendations to visit Meteor Crater and Walnut Canyon—both were highlights of our trip. While cell service was a bit spotty, the strong Wi-Fi kept us connected, and a mattress topper could be a nice addition for guests with back issues. Overall, a delightful and memorable stay—we’d absolutely return!

At the gateway to the white mountains & at our 5000' elevation you will experience all four seasons. Cooler than Phoenix in summer & warmer than flagstaff in winter, yet within 2 hrs of either. If interests are: Grand Canyon & mighty Colorado river, red rocks of Sedona, petrified forest, painted desert, natural bridge(less than 10 min), meteor crater, sunset crater, ice caves, indian ruins, out of africa zoo or perhaps..Hiking, biking, snow skiing, ATV activities, zip lining or exploring many miles of trails throughout az's magnificent ponerosa forests, we have it all!
