I grew up in Los Angeles, but was ready to find a beautiful mountain home, after visiting a friend here in 1973, I was hooked. I started studying wild edible and medicinal plants in LA a year before I moved here, and continued learning them here, as well as getting into wild mushrooms too. In 1980 I was contacted to become one of the founders of the Telluride Mushroom Festival. I have a special use permit to lead my hikes on National Forest Service land, and became a Certified Mushroom Identifier for the state.
I designed and built this house myself, and have lived here ever since. I used to rent the whole house on VRBO for 11 years, but got tired of moving out when guests were here. That's why I made the apartment in back to stay in when guests are here.
I lead plant and mushroom hikes in the summers, and snowshoe tours in the winters. New to Alpenglow Ranch is providing breakfast, which can be a wild mushroom omelette, with mushrooms we gather together (for an additional fee for the tour). I also do hand carved signs and custom carvings and antique repairs.
