We loved staying at Alpenglow Ranch. It was exactly what we were looking for. It was perfect for our family of four. The views and wildlife were a highlight. John was great and easy to communicate with. The home was well equipped and the washer and dryer came in very handy. The home was about a 30 minute drive into downtown Telluride so remote enough but easy to drive to town. Would recommend and plan to stay again.

The panoramic views are amazing, and were the main feature for us. We saw dozens of deer and elk in the area during our stay. Although listed as a shared space, the host is in a separate annex so it acts as a 100% private space if you want it to be. The host was very helpful and accommodating, and easy to contact via text.

Beautiful Panoramic View

The Alpenglow Ranch is a cozy property just outside Telluride. The views during the day are breathtaking. I would highly recommend this ranch to anyone looking to adventure in the nearby areas.

Gorgeous Views

What a gorgeous property! My wife and I had a wonderful stay and loved being outside enjoying the views. John was very kind and welcomed us to the house. The house had all the amenities we needed and we look forward to coming back.

Perfect spot !

Incredible views . Very comfortable place. The bed were a bit too small, Full size mattress maybe good for kids or small petite person but not for 6' 1'' 200 lb person. Overall a great spot and fairly close to town of Telluride.

What a place!

An absolutely amazing house in one of the most beautiful locations on earth. The views from the house are beyond words. The house is thoroughly charming - delightful for cooking, eating, sitting watching the sunlit views, or warming up by a fire.

Great place to stay!

The view from the property is breathtaking and well worth the price! The house is uniquely designed and quite interesting. It is very quiet and we even saw some wildlife despite it being winter. The only surprise was that our GPS took us to the wrong property initially! Be sure to go UP the hill!

Breathtaking Views

Words cannot describe the mountain views at this property. Truly remarkable. The owner is very attentive at keeping the driveway clear during the winter and is there to help with any issues.

Unique House with a Stunning View

We were delighted with our host, attentive to our every need. The house is lovely and cozy, and the view is jaw dropping. The kitchen is well appointed. I made a blackberry cobbler while there. We also drove into Telluride and had a great time skiing! We may go back in summer/fall to go mushrooming!

Highly recommended!

Quiet, clean and incredible views! Surrounded by mountains and aspens. We saw several mule deer, chipmunks and heard what we think was coyotes. There was evidence of a bear (if you know what I mean) but we never actually saw any. It was a wonderful relaxing week with breathtaking views out every (huge) window . John was very helpful and only a text away if we needed anything. Highly recommended!

More than expected

View and accommodations were exceptional. Host was like your favorite uncle. Host stayed out of site while we were there and went out of his way to make us feel like family. My daughter invited him to a surprise birthday dinner and he fit in like family. Definitely rent a Subaru from flower Subaru next to the airport. Shop for food before you check in. Kitchen is very well equipped. Make sure you have the correct address in your GPS.

Stunning Mountain Escape!

Our family loved this amazing property. The views are beyond amazing! The location is close (25 minutes) to Telluride and all of the activities, but secluded if you want to just stay at the property. We are big photographers and the images captured did not disappoint. We also were able to snowshoe on property and enjoy the wonderful Colorado outdoors. Kitchen is fabulous for cooking! John (the owner) is on site and available if you need anything. He greeted us upon arrival and was very attentive to snow removal, but then did not see him until we were leaving. Thank you for a wonderful stay!!

40th Anniversary

John greeted us when we arrived, and after giving us a walk through and explaining some things about the house, we never saw him again…even though he was on the other side of the house. Around 25 years ago, we drove the Alpine Loop for the first time and I’ve always dreamed of staying somewhere with those views…this was that place! The views are absolutely breathtaking!!! It was the perfect spot to celebrate our anniversary. We did several scenic drives: Last Dollar Rd, Ouray to Silverton, Woods Lake, and the Unaweep Tabegauche Scenic Byweep to name a few. One of our favorite things was sitting on the couch at night and watching the stars come out. We would definitely stay here again!!!

A Must

Our stay at Alpenglow Ranch was memorable! In anticipation of our stay, John was very communicative and proactive. He ensured we had specific directions and were able to have a smooth check-in (which we did). John greeted us on time and gave us a thorough walkthrough. Expectations and comms were always clear, friendly, and super helpful. The ranch has anything you need! Everything was clean and it made for a very comfortable stay. And. The. View.Seriously, you need to stay here and experience the majesty. 10/10 recommend. Will def book on future stays for Telluride Bluegrass Fest or Afro much needed mountain retreats. Thanks, John!

Beautiful Retreat

I picked this home for a visit to Telluride, CO with two of my teen children. The home fit the description and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The views from the family room were spectacular, the kitchen well appointed, the beds comfortable. We rented a small sedan and managed to drive it up the gravel roads to this house on a hill. This would only be an option in the summer; snowy seasons would probably require a vehicle with four wheel drive. The drive to Telluride was less than 30 minutes and a beautiful ride. We spent our days exploring many of the trails and towns within a two-hour drive of the home. Our host stayed on the property in a separate entrance and was out of sight unless we needed him. We would definitely stay here again.

Most Amazing Views!

The views from John's place cannot be beat. We felt like we were staying in a high mountain hut. We never turned on the TV, because we were mesmerized by the landscape in front of us. It was such a treat to watch the wildlife, too. John is a wonderful soul and super gracious host. Please note that bedroom 1 and bathroom 1 on the listing is an extra charge on the core price - noted in the description. Core price includes bedroom 2 and bathroom 2. John's apartment is attached to the main living area by an internal door. He is super quiet. However, we were mindful that he could hear us in the main living area.

A Truly Magical GetawayThis place is pure magic. The views alone make it worth the trip — every morning feels like waking up inside a painting. The peace and quiet of the surroundings, with only the sounds of nature and the occasional glimpse of wildlife, make it the perfect place to unwind and reconnect with the outdoors.The home is spotless and clearly well cared for. John designed and built it himself, which makes it extra special. The kitchen is impressively well stocked, with everything you might need to cook a full meal while soaking in those incredible views. Communication with the owner is smooth — you never hear from them unless you reach out, which gives you complete privacy while still knowing help is there if you need it.We loved exploring the nearby hikes, which offer even more stunning scenery. The roads getting there are fine, but we’d recommend a car with a little higher clearance for the driveway — it makes things easier.This was our second stay, and somehow it felt even more magical than the first. Apenglow Ranch is Magical

The Apenglow Ranch is special in so many ways. The home has an epic view surrounded by beautiful mountains. In our case we some amazing wildlife, a beautiful snowscape and stunning sunsets. We saw a heard of over a hundred majestic elk pass through the property. The home has heated floors, a wonderful book and movie collection. Everything in the home is comfortable and it is fully stocked with everything you could possibly need. The Apenglow Ranch also has some of the best water you can imagine and a lovely wood stove. John helped us get the lay of the land and we had an amazing time. Telluride is just a thirty minute scenic drive away. We had the best of Telluride and the best of nature & adventure. I love this place. And I think John made a small paradise that can be shared through VRBO. It's a gift to yourself to stay there that you will never forget.

Best Mountain Views

If youre looking to be surrounded by the majestic San Juan Mountains, tons of nature and amazing stargazing opportunities, look no further! Alpenglow checks all the boxes! The remote location is accessible by winding dirt roads as you head up in elevation... 9500 ft or so. The drive is fun and scenic. Roads to the property are maintained well. Your vehicle will get dirty. It's worth it! Our host, John, greeted us kindly as we pulled up. He promptly gave us a tour of his unique home that he started building 30 years ago. He showed us around to the different rooms and amenities. He has interesting photos and decor throughout and there are charming stories behind all of it. Note... He does stay on the property in an adjoining section of the house. Once we parted ways we never saw him for the 5 days we were there. He was quiet and respectful of our privacy.Be sure to come with an open mind. Embrace the unique designs and architecture. It's fun and you'll get lost in the little details of this house. The great room has an amazing 180 degree view of the San Juan Mountains. We came with the intent to stargaze and get close to nature and we got it! We got unreal Milky Way views at night (or early morning... 3am!). Excellent mountain views. A beautiful sunrise. There were elk, deer and other furry/feathered friends to search for throughout the day. Overall a great stay!

Beautiful Panoramic Views!

I love mountains, and I love fall leaves, so when I saw this listing, I jumped at the chance to book it for the first week in October. It didn't disappoint. Quite the opposite, actually. It was magnificent! And we could see it as the sun rose in the morning until it set at night. Then the stars and milky way came out to play. Add the birds, bugling elk, and a small herd of deer that wandered around the property, and it was absolutely picturesque! The property itself, about a 25 minute drive from Telluride, was quite cozy and unique, built by the owner over a matter of decades. I loved being able to cook in the kitchen, and the cast iron/enamel pans and a gas stove were a very nice perk (regular pans are also available). The beds had a memory foam topper and I believe were full size, which could be small for some couples, but that was ok with us. The futon and couch can be used as extra sleeping space if needed. There was a large ceiling fan in the main room as well as a couple small portable fans, which were nice to have for white noise and added air circulation if desired. Extra blankets and pillows were also available. In addition, our host was very friendly, promptly worked with a request we made, knew a lot about the animals and birds in the area, and to my husbands delight, was able to tell us about the many different mountain peaks in view. We would love to stay here again if we ever get the chance.
