This property looks really good in the pictures, and it was very high-end when it was built in 2004, but there are many reasons why it's one of the cheapest vacation rentals in the area. When we first arrived, we thought it was a nice place and it looked clean. Then we started looking a little closer. WEe do understand that vacation rentals were in high demand this past summer and the Oregon coast experienced higher than normal visitors. There were multiple problems that simple neglect had created.
The first problem we noticed was the filthiness of the carpets. There is a carpet cleaner in a closet. How hard would it have been to clean the carpet? The master bathroom sink drained extremely slow. How does one get a sink properly clean when the sink won't drain???? Opening the cabinet under the sink, mold on the back wall was noticed, directly underneath the shower head that is on the other side of the wall. Checking the shower, someone had caulked around the handle, attempting to fix the problem. The toilet plunger had been placed directly in front of the mold, in the cabinet, but the smell of mold is quite strong when standing near the vanity.
The floor was very sandy. We realize that sand is a constant companion on the coast, but this was clearly a lack of sweeping. While sweeping the floor, the throw rugs were picked up and much more sand poured out. The rugs were so disgusting that they needed laundering. The kitchen sink faucet had very low flow. The stove burners need adjustment and the burner grates and drip pans have a thick layer of burnt on grease. The vacuum filters had not been cleaned, therefore the vacuum didn't work. The dust pan had a hole in it.
There was a sticky white material (marshmallow?) on the banister railing and the stairs had visible sand piles in the corners.
After this, we asked ourselves this: if they haven't attended to what we CAN see, how attentive are they to what we CAN'T see? At that point, all of the bedding went into the washer. The mattress covers, in the small bedroom, were very stained. All of the mattress covers needed washing.
We moved the couch, in the upstairs living room, and found a thick layer of dust, hair and sand, along with a large wooden tray, a coaster box and assorted toys. The couch is old and uncomfortable. The room, on the main floor, has three broken recliners and an old TV and blu ray combo. Bring your streaming device or you'll be stuck with Netflix.
