We had a great time at FINCA el Refugio de Papito. The experience will stay with our family forever. The hosts were welcoming, friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a Pura Vida experience. Whether it was fishing in the pond, seeing the sloths, macaws, iguanas, turtles or herons it was fantastic. Their offers of fresh coconut, plantains, and fresh cane juice were well received. Highly recommended and we hope to be back one day. Muchas gracias!

I really can't say enough about our stay on the 'farm'. First off, the owners (who also live on the property) are such fantastic people. Friendly, respectful, and kind. The accommodations were first rate, very clean and comfortable. The setting is quiet and peaceful. We both loved it and hated to leave.

Wonderful stay

Our stay at this location was fantastic! The description and pictures are completely accurate. It's not a hotel - it's a unique, clean, comfortable house with the owners onsite. They greeted us upon arrival and showed us around the farm the next morning. The house had AC, dishes, linens, refrigerator, stove, and a microwave. It's rustic, and just what we were looking for. There were a few nearby locations to purchase fruit and other food, and a restaurant less than a mile away. La Fortuna is about 20 minutes away, so a short drive if you want to go to town. Our flight got in around 3, and by the time we got to the farm it was 7 PM. I would suggest that you not try to navigate the roads from San Jose to this location in the dark. It was a little scary, but we made it safely! This was the first place that we stayed in Costa Rica, and I wish that we had stayed longer. If we return, we will definitely choose this location. It was a fabulous experience!

A wonderful experience!

I just can't say enough good things about our stay here. Beautiful people, property, and location. During our stay, we had a small medical emergency with one of our kiddos, and our hosts went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of. We are so very thankful! 10/10 we would recommend staying here if you are in the La Fortuna area! If we ever visit Costa Rica again we will be spending more time here! Thank You!

This property initially appealed to me because of the small family farm and rural location. When booking I kept saying to my family, " this place looks too good to be true", on the second day of my stay I told my family " it's true" !!! Most importantly, the hosts are the best I have ever known.

This was a perfect spot for a couple of lower-key days between adventures. The kitchen was great, and we loved sitting on the second story deck and watching birds and the small herd of cattle. Our hosts were thoughtful and communicative. If you like dogs, they have a super fun pack 🙂

Awesome stay, too short.

Yesssenia was great to work with. Responded very quickly to question not just about the stay and property but also about Costa Rica. The property is so beautiful, and a great place for kids. The pond was great to take a short boat ride in and also for the kids to fish in. We got to eat a delicious, typical breakfast in the family's outdoor kitchen and it was such an awesome experience to talk to the family about their life story and Costa Rica. I would totally return to the property and stay here again. Highly recommended!

Absolutely perfect!

Our kids loved the farm animals, the dogs, and the pond. The hosts and the experience exceeded our expectations - from farm-fresh eggs, milk, and cheese to fruit trees and easy access to Arenal Volcano and the hot springs in La Fortuna - this was an incredible find. We highly recommend and would stay again.

Idyllic setting, warm welcome

We could not be happier with our stay here....the house was clean and quite lovely, beds comfortable, and the farm was exceptionally well taken care of. We watched the ducks and geese in the morning, and were especially taken with the beautiful (and content) cows. We have seldom experienced a welcome as warm and inviting as we had here.....the family was so kind and generous with their time and information about the plants and animals, and local attractions. Learning to make tortillas was a special treat! This is located in a perfect spot to visit La Fortuna via a short drive.....all the benefits without staying in the hustle and bustle of town. Our only regret was that we didn't have more time to spend here.....but it will be top on our list for our next visit to Costa Rica.
