This charming, immaculate cottage, spoiled us for any other places! We had to stay in a different cabin, owned by different people near the Russian River and we were completely disillusioned by that experience. Mostly, because THIS, Caspar Cottage, was amazing and perfect in every way. When we arrived we were greeted with fresh fruit, flowers, bread, and really good coffee. There were even freshly picked strawberries from the owner's garden, which were delicious! We drove a rental car up from San Francisco and as we got closer to Mendocino, the drive became captivating, through the redwoods. Roll down your windows and smell the fresh earthiness of the air, it is revitalizing. The waterfall trail that is within walking distance of the cottage is absolutely enchanting. The first time we hiked it, we met no one on the trail, and the breeze had blown wild, pink, Rhododendron blossoms onto our walking path. I felt like we were inside a greeting card or travel magazine.
We loved the fanciful, little town of Mendocino.
Simply walking from the town to the seashore there was a mystical experience for us. Clear views of the beautiful seaside, and rarely meeting another soul made our vacation spiritual and magical. Caspar cottage itself, lent a helping hand. It is extremely clean and seems new. I found everything I needed to cook and grill. There is a lovely little picnic area in the manicured side yard. The landscaping is beautiful and meticulous, the little artistic touches everywhere are splendid. Everywhere I looked inside and outside of the cottage, I was met with little surprises, from Orchids growing in the bathroom, to hand made ceramic hearts in an artful display amongst the plants on the front porch. The cottage is expertly decorated, from the pictures to the quilts and pillows. The bed linens are so clean that I felt like they were brand new, they were super soft and heavenly. The bathroom has a full, jetted tub and a shower, and is all new and clean, a spa experience can be had in there, if you find the time.
We were fortunate to have Jughandle beach and walking trails completely to ourselves, it felt like our own private getaway! Exploring the Krummholz along the ecological stair case walk, made our 6 year old son feel like he was in a fairytale. He also took photos of the gardens in the Owner's yard next door, he loved this place. The sea glass beach is not far away and was fun.
True peace and relaxation can be had here.
