The little bungalow was situated on the end of a little lane, so it was quiet and peaceful. We found that it was part of a long row of similar holiday homes, each set in it's own space, right behind the local pub - definitely one of the best pubs I've been to - they had a beer garden, loads of room inside, and served really good local food. The setting was good for country walks and rambles, with the coast and picturesque villages within walking and driving distance- we went to Westward Ho and Clovelly by car - being right on the border of Devon and Cornwall, it really was a superb setting.
The place itself was amazing - our hosts really put a lot of thought into making the holiday enjoyable- yes, we did eat out a couple of times, but the kitchen was filled with every convenience - we've taken a few things with us before because we found from experience that the knives in some places are not that sharp and they don't have beer glasses - but here , we never unpacked the ' Survival Kit', as I call it.
The place itsef had comfortable beds, and was well kept, clean and tidy. in the cupboards, we found not only essentials but even boards games, cards and other amusements in case we were not interested in watching TV or one of the whole shelf of DVDs on offer .
It was lovely to be welcomes with home baked biscuits and a range of teas as well as coffee.
Often, we have had to put our dog in kennels, but here, Lily, our little collie, was welcome- with a biscuit for her as well on arrival! Dogs are welcome but we were asked to make sure that did not sit on the furniture unless we put a rug out for them first. this was quite reasonable and we have managed to find quite a few dog friendly places in the UK where this is a standard arrangement. We had brought our own rugs, but Little Nod again had provided some for us.
There was a lovely patio outside , and as I'm keen on Astronomy , I took my four inch telescope - that's 104mm in metric , and we got lovely views of the moon, but it was the wrong time of year for Orion and the Pleiades - I do hope to go back in the wintertime.
Overall, the setting was good, the accomadation was amazing and the bookshelf was packed with local guidebooks and a brocure full of local info written by our hosts, including the best places to shop and reviews of various local attractions and facilites. Sue, our hostess , also provided her number, just in case...
The only thing we did not like about Little Nod was having to leave !
