Not sure where to begin, but this adorable cottage hit all the right buttons! It's half a block from the Niagara River going east, and two blocks to the main commercial street (Picton), with dozens of nice shops, art galleries and restaurants to the west. The Shaw's theaters are two blocks north or south, so everything is within about 5 blocks from the cottage, and a nice 10 or 15 minute walk. If one wanted, they could park the car and stick to the town without having to drive anywhere.
There is so much to see and do in the general southern Ontario area. This was my first trip to the area, and I availed myself of the multitude of sights and activities in Niagara Falls (Ontario side), dozens of wineries and distilleries (many with really nice restaurants), historic sites, the Butterfly Conservatory - much too much to list. "NotL" is a beautiful town, flowers everywhere, nicest place I can remember. People are friendly (well, they mostly ARE Canadian!) and engaging.
I so enjoyed the cottage. I'd pick up a latte at Bacchus Coffee and a chimney cake from Budapest Bakery and bring them back for breakfast with some fruit from one of the multitude of fruit stands selling peaches, apricots, nectarines, etc. Then it was off to explore every day, back for a delicious dinner (loved Treadwell Farm to Table in town, and Trius Winery about five miles away), and maybe a performance at the Shaw Festival. The cottage is very quiet, and it was nice to open the windows at night to take advantage of the cool breeze.
Penny and Jeff were immediately responsive to my rare question or comment, and super-nice people when I met them (again, they ARE Canadians!).
Thanks to both of them for making this such an enjoyable stop, and look forward to returning, hopefully yearly.
