Bears Cottage was the perfect 'roost' for us. We had dreadful weather during our stay so our accommodation was even more important. The comfort, immaculate and beautifully restored and well furnished rooms (very comfy, large sofa and a great armchair) the attractively quaint character of the building (unusual spaces cleverly turned into cupboards) and the whole ambience of the village location compensated for the lack of intended exploration of the Cotswolds. The pretty and private garden is a real bonus, as is the friendly village shop across the road. The church is beside the cottage and we knew in advance that the bell tolled the hour on the hour, but it didn't bother us at all, in fact we were delighted when the bell ringers had a day time practice session - it was a real treat while the rain fell outside. The wonderful Fleece pub is something else! Its ancient walls could tell many tales. Although we did not eat there, we sampled the beers and saw some of meals being served - they looked delicious. Phil and Susan are model hosts. Phil came to welcome us and talked us through aspects of the cottage although the instruction manuals and guide notes were comprehensive and we had no problems at all. Susan left us a welcoming (and much appreciated) cake, milk and tea, so we were able to feel at home immediately. Lastly, the decor of the cottage, not least the bedrooms and beautifully tiled contemporary shower room, is tasteful, clever and relaxing. We loved it! (We should have asked why it is called Bears Cottage but forgot) Thank you, Phil and Susan.
