Our extended family decided to take this historic place for our annual get together after Christmas, a time all 22 of us can get together. This year we decided to try an urban experience. (We are ranchers in the Central Valley of California.) This was our 20th year going somewhere, usually near the beach.
The rooms in the mansion are amazing, with architectural details everywhere, tall windows that let in the sun on a winter afternoon, with lots of space to spread out . We watched the San Francisco Forty Niner game one night, some played games, our son brought his guitar. The third floor enchanted out granddaughter from Tennessee, with areas to play games or sit around and visit. Beautiful dark beams cover the ceiling, and windows look out to the bay. The bedrooms are large, the beds comfortable.
There were a few negatives. The kitchen is small for a crowd, and has poor lighting in the evening, for slicing up onions or preparing something on the stove. However, we had pizza one night from Philomena, and it was outstanding. The only bathroom on the ground floor was in the middle of a remodel but we managed.
The neighborhood was noisy for two nights around New Years Eve. Lots of firecrackers and the sound of guns going off.
It would help if the owner could put up a hand rail along the steps leading to the entry.
I give it 4 stars because of the few negatives. Over all the house is beautiful and perfect for a reunion or meeting.
