Restored and renovated 1890s Victorian guest house in the heart of Capitol Hill, featuring modern amenities and comfortably accommodates up to four guests, only 1/2 block from the Eastern Market Metro subway station, around the corner from "Barrack's Row" shops and restaurants, and only seven blocks from the U.S. Capitol campus.

Kirk is a fourth-generation Washingtonian whose family has lived on Capitol Hill since the late 1800s, and where he continues to live today with his wife and two children. Kirk's Great-Grandmother, Margaret, purchased this 1890 Victorian home In 1905 to entice one of her two daughters to raise her own family in the neighborhood. Kirk's Great Aunt, Nell, and her husband, John, raised their 12 children in this home.

In 2008 at the behest of Kirk's 82-year-old cousin, Kirk's family purchased the house from relatives who had owned or lived in the house since 1905, and then they spent over two years meticulously restoring and renovating the home, blending old-world Victorian charm and ambiance with new world appliances and technology.

Today, Kirk's family, now a fifth generation of Washingtonians, are honored to offer you the opportunity to experience residential living in the newly updated guesthouse, right in the heart of our Nation's Capitol, at the Historic Eastern Market on Capitol Hill!

The property was conveniently located to walk to Eastern Market & other shops & restaurants. It was comfortable & clean. The kitchen was well equipped. It was the perfect spot for us to visit with nearby family. We enjoyed our stay!

Fabulous VRBO in Capitol Hill

The apartment was clean, quiet, charming and in a lovely, walkable neighborhood with grocery stores, shops, restaurants, etc. It was five minutes to the metro stop which was so convenient. We spent a great amount of time on the balcony out back after sightseeing, eating our meals and enjoying the birds and the trees. Truly restorative. Our only problem was that the dishwasher was broken and needed replaced. The owner was responsive, but nothing could be done over the holiday weekend. If you are planning on cooking, make sure the dishwasher has been replaced. Other than that, book and enjoy this wonderful VRBO.

Beautiful street and great location very close to the subway. Trader Joe’s was right there by the subway stop and Eastern market. The space was nice and comfortable. The only thing that wasn’t 5 stars was the dishwasher didn’t work the best.

Nothing like Independence Day in the Nation's Capital!

Great start to summer vacation - great location, great hosts, great rental! Walking distance to the Capital, White House, Mall, museums, and memorials. We parked the car and didn't drive until we left. Good restaurants nearby but the kitchen has everything you need and the back porch is great for a late night drink. We'll stay here on our next visit to DC.

Great location

Kirk was very helpful with information and providing a parking permit. The house is super close to a metro stop, grocery stores, and great restaurants. Would definitely recommend!

Comfy unit in excellent location, but could use some updating

We were looking to spend 2 weeks touring DC and wanted to stay in a place where we could cook, relax, etc., and not have to go out to eat all the time. We stayed in the Cap Hill neighborhood many years ago, so I was glad to find this unit.We are former VRBO owners, so we have high expectations. Overall, there were both pluses and minuses to this apartment.Pluses:- Location was great, just a half block to the Eastern Market Metro stop and the neighborhood felt very safe. Trader Joe’s is nearby as is CVS. There are other grocery stores, such as Safeway and Harris Teeter, but they are a longer walk (15 min) and generally not in the direction of most of the main DC sites.- The back deck is probably the best part of the house, providing a very comfortable place to relax. Living room is also quite nice with a good TV.- Check-in was easy and we were able to coordinate with the Host to drop off our luggage prior to check in time. Key pad entry is very easy.- Communication with the Host was good.Minuses:- The unit is old and a bit tired, e.g., carpet stains, holes in some towels, etc. - The kitchen is supplied for only very basic cooking needs, and some things were missing, e.g., no can opener or scissors, only 1 hot pad holder, etc. Many pans/dishes could do with a tune up/replacement.- It’s practically impossible to use the oven without the smoke alarms going off.Overall, the apartment worked well for our needs and enabled us to experience DC living.

I absolutely loved it! My husband had a difficult time with stairs because it was upstairs. He's 60 and they were a little steep. Just indicate stairs are a little narrow for older folks, carrying suit cases and all would be considered perfect. Would definitely come back and stay at this property

Primo location and atmosphere.

After reading the wonder reviews of this place, we booked it for our mom and dad only get away trip to DC. All the great reviews were spot on. Kirk is a wonderful communicator, the flat is clean, comfortable and the neighborhood has wonderful vibes. We went out at night as well as the day and I felt very safe. The people in the neighborhood were nice.Very convenient to the metro, Trader Joes and CVS for supplies, delicious bakery, restaurants and wine/liquor stores are all just over on the next block. Kirk included a detailed description of favorite places to eat and shop in the area. The back balcony was very nice for coffee or wine, lots of trees and birds to watch. If you are there over the weekend, do walk down and stroll through the Eastern Market market. If we are ever in DC, we will be staying there again.

ABSOLUTELY PERFECT

This home was better than expected and the location was absolutely perfect! We were by everything we needed...food, grocery and the Metrorail was a 2 min walk which we used everday. Once on that all the attractions were just a short trip away. The host of this home was very responsive and we met him and is genuinely one of the nicest people we have ever met. If you are going to DC this is the place to stay!!! We really cant thank this host enough for our wonderful stay!

Definitely "Fabulous"!

Wow! The location of this property could not have been better for our vacation with convenient access to the Metro or Trader Joe's/CVS or restaurants or the Mall. Kirk's communication was outstanding and extremely thorough. The residence was very clean. It was the perfect spot to rest each evening after a day of sight-seeing or to stroll through the neighborhoods admiring the architecture after dinner. I highly recommend this venerable Victorian!

Neat house in a great neighborhood

We spent a week exploring DC and this location was perfect. Easy walk to Capitol Hill, metro station about a block away, and plenty of restaurants & coffee shops close by. The house is charming & comfortable. The owner is exceptionally accommodating.

Capitol Hill

This is a great place to stay. Great little restaurants within a couple blocks, little grocery store just around the corner, and a half block to metro station. We took the metro many times and were impressed by how clean and modern it was. The apartment is lovely, like it’s described, and in a very safe area. My wife and I are 70 and getting luggage up the stairs was a bit difficult (this is more on us than the place, should pack more efficiently) but we would come here again in an instant. The whole process of check in and out was easy, and the instructions were simple. Highly recommend this place.

Simply OUTSTANDING

Great communication with Kirk prior to visit, information provided was very useful. The location is outstanding, the close proximity to the Metro is great, we used the Metro extensively, only 3 Uber's in 5 days. Numerous quality restaurants within walking distance. This seems to be a family friendly area, we saw numerous children walking to school in the morning. Don't pass on this one.

Great place for our first stay in DC

Exactly as described! Very clean with all the comforts of home. Within walking distance to everything you need-groceries/alcohol, restaurants and transportation. We parked our car out front and didn’t move it the entire week. Took the Metro everywhere; really easy to figure out! Would absolutely stay here again. Thanks Kirk!
