I can't recommend this host and house enough. The home was in a great location, very clean, and had everything needed for an amazing vacation in Tamarindo. Any questions we had for the host were promptly answered and they always had our best interest at heart. We will be coming back for sure!

Perfect place to relax in Tamarindo

Rik and Susan were perfect hosts and neighbors. Their place had great access to miles of beaches and the fun and colorful beach town of Tamarindo. We are already planning our next trip back!

The perfect place to stay if you are looking for a quiet get away in Tamarindo.

Perfect place to stay in Tamarindo. Just takes a couple of minutes to walk to the beautiful beach of Tamarindo and a short walk to town with all of the amazing restaurants and shops. Casa de Las Olas was amazing. The quiet pool side oasis in the back yard was incredible. Perfect place to hear and see Howler Monkeys and Iguanas. Thank you Rik and Susan for your hospitality.

Great host, great space, great time.

My wife and I had a glorious time staying at Rik and Susan's Casita. Every single part of the stay was perfect including the bed, outdoor living space and ease of walking to the beach or local markets/restaurants. Rik and Susan are great host and as enjoyable as the space. Looking forward to coming back in 2025!

The Casita at Casa de Las Olas

We had the best time in Tamarindo and especially at Rik and Susan’s home. Couldn’t have been more happy with the hospitality and the property itself. The pool and tropical backyard was the icing on the cake plus only a 3-5 min walk across the street to the breathtaking beach. We look forward to coming back ASAP!

Absolutely amazing vacation

I cannot say enough good things about Casa de las Olas. It is in the perfect location, a one minute walk to a beautiful, uncrowded beach. It has everything you need, including a well stocked kitchen, bikes, and surfboards to use. And Rik is the perfect host - he has so many recommendations and is super responsive to any questions or issues you might have. We can’t wait to stay here again on our next visit!!

An Immaculate Home Away From Home

Perfect spot in Tamarindo!

We couldn’t have made a better selection for our vacation in Tamarindo, Costa Rica. The casita was lovely with everything we needed. The pool, gardens, and outdoor living area were ideal. The beach access was just across the street. The property is in the quieter area of Tamarindo which was nice. It’s an easy walk to restaurants. Rik and Susan were gracious hosts. It was just the property and vacation we were looking for!

Beautiful Place

Tamarindo is a beautiful little town with very friendly people. Casa de las Olas was is a beautiful very clean well kept house. Rik (the landlord) is a awesome man, he was there to help with everything we needed. You just cross the street and go down a short path and there's the most beautiful soft sand beach. A must place tto stay if your in Tamarindo. Thank you Rik

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay for our family's spring break. The property itself is very well maintained by professionals. Pool was cleaned multiple times while we we're there. A wonderful cleaning staff we're very thorough the 3 times during our 9 day stay. I've never used a grill so clean! The outdoor space truly lives up to the pictures, it's quite amazing. We had some issues with the internet but that was a service provider issue. We loved the walkability to the beach. The property is so close to the public beach access and brings you to a more quite part of the beach, which we loved. Our 81 year old mom was able to walk easily back & forth quite easily. We loved the location relative to the Langosta and Tamarindo. The girls we're able to walk into town. Quite area of town yet very close to the action of downtown. We did rent a golf cart, which we didn't use enough for the cost but it was nice to get around the city and grocery stores.
A family of 13 Mono's moving through the property across the street!
Did I tell you the grill was clean!

We miss Tim already

We had an absolute wonderful time at Rik's place, from walking along the beach for dinner in town to the Palo Verde national park, but the highlight of our vacation was coming across the Olive Ridley Turtles babies digging out of their nest while walking back from dinner , not 100 meters from Rik's place, and yes we made sure ALL the turtles made it to the ocean (100+) Thanks Rik for the great hospitality and local knowledge

Great location. Close to the beach…but peaceful as well!

We enjoyed our week at the house. Loved the outdoor showers! Air conditioning worked well. Housekeeping was an added plus. Loved the pool area and covered patio to escape the sun. The biggest drawback would be the locks required between the 2 units. Didn’t like that and really didn’t understand what it wouldBe like….and that is why I gave it a 4 star. Better suited for just adults I would say.

Quiet, comfortable oasis

I stayed at Casa de Las Olas over New Year's with my 2 teenage sons. It was quiet, clean and very comfortable. We did cook some using the well equipped kitchen rather than eat out all meals. The twin hammocks on the front porch got a lot of use and the beach was just steps away. Did not think it would be needed, but I did appreciate the air conditioning in the bedrooms at night. The gardener even changed a flat tire for me while my teenagers were snoozing!

Paradise in Costa Rica

Hard to describe this house because there's SO much to rave about. It's beautiful, extremely well maintained, reasonably priced, within walking distance to everything you need, includes all the equipment you need to enjoy the beach across the street, and the owner is incredibly helpful. We didn't bother renting a vehicle because we could walk for everything we needed (on that fabulous beach!) or take a quick cab ride to bring home a bunch of groceries. We are so glad that we chose this location and this house --- they are the definition of "hidden gems". Thank you, Rik, for an unbelievable hoiday in paradise. We can't wait to come back!

An incredible and impressive home

This home exceeded any expectation we had. The pictures can't come close to the space and setting this home has to offer, seriously. We were just a short walking distance to what felt like a secluded beach, which was also close to an very nice boutique hotel that offered a quaint breakfast, dinner, and/or drinks. During our stay we also often found ourselves just as happy spending time on our front area lounging on hammocks, which was private and surrounded by a lush landscape. The owner Rik was extremely helpful during our stay, and we are appreciative for all his information he provided us. We are definitely coming back!

Costa Rica Relaxation

My wife and I recently stayed at Casa de las Olas for 2 weeks and had the most relaxing time at this wonderful house seconds away from Playa Tamarindo. Let the world spin on, but here you can just take it easy. The house is secluded, landscaped beautifully and immaculately maintained. Go surfing with the boards supplied with the house or snorkeling with the equipment that is there for you. The house is a short walk on the beach into town and near many restaurants. You can take a bike ride on the two beach cruiser bikes that stay at the house also. This was our 5th stay at Casa de las Olas and you can bet we will return again.

Beautiful studio on quiet side of Tamarindo

Lovely studio that is very well appointed and has everything you need. Rik and Susan are easy to work with and have done a beautiful job taking care of the property. They have a wealth of information regarding Tamarindo and the surrounding area. The beach (Tamarindo) is very accessible and just a few steps away. We love that we are close to Tamarindo beach to hit the waves and Langosta beach (a short walk) to find seashells and the tide pools are fun to explore. We loved the restaurant next door. The pool area is very lush and beautiful. The pool was so nice to take a quick dip to cool off. It was a bit hot for us, but Rik and Susan can’t control the weather sadly (LOL). Also, the sun comes into the windows very early so bring an eye mask if you need it to be dark to sleep. We hope to return soon!

Safe broke. A/C did not work properly. Three rolls of TP for four people for two weeks.

House was too hot to cook in. Lights burnt out and were never replaced. Wifi was slow and only worked in living room. Asked if we could use BBQ and was told he would get back to us and never did.

Thank you for your recent visit to Costa Rica staying at my Home. I was concerned to hear about your experience with the wifi, bbq, and other issues. We understand that one of the things you expect most when staying at a holiday property is great wifi even when you are in a foreign country that may not have the internet speeds you are used to in Canada – along those lines, the electrical grid in a 2nd world country is often not as reliable as well, which often times causes surges which will occasionally cause a light bulb to fail. The bbq instructions were in the House manual, but you may have missed this. Sadly, you must have also missed the spare toilet paper that was in the cabinet under the bathroom sinks as well. I would like to take this opportunity to apologize for these problems, although I know that does not change your experience. I hope that you can feel confident that we heard your concerns. Thank you for your feedback and review and we look forward to making it up to you in your next visit to the beautiful country that is Costa Rica.

Great house, great value, great owner!

My husband and I have stayed in Casa de las Olas several times in the last few years: just the two of us, the two of us along with our daughter and her baby, and also with another couple. We've stayed for as few as 6 days and as long as a month. The layout of each bedroom being adjacent to a bathroom makes sharing the house work out great. The house is always immaculate. Irania, the housekeeper, comes 3 times a week which is just perfect. Rik is a great neighbor/landlord - always helpful, always willing to make your stay as pleasant as possible. I agree with all the other reviews so don't want to repeat the comments.. This is THE BEST BUY in Tamarindo. You can't go wrong choosing Casa de las Olas. (Love ya', Rik!)

Amazing experience!

This property is not to be overlooked. Exactly as described in the listing. Rik couldn’t have been a better host. Gave us clear check in instructions, then he showed up a few minutes later. We chatted and he offered us any advise or suggestions we needed. Just a real class guy, laid back loves what he does and is very proud of his Casa de Las Olas, as he should be. We were two couples, my wife and I and my brother and his wife. They had never been to CR, and were greatly impressed. Literally out the door and to one of the most beautiful beaches in 100 yards. Then you can stroll along the wide beach and stop in at any number of restaurants and bars along the beach. If you’re there on a Friday, the hotel across the street has a beach barbecue in a beautiful setting, with food cooked grilled right there on the beach and Costa Rican entertainment following. I could go on and on, but just know you can’t find it much better than Rik’s place.

Great house, perfect location

Tamarindo is a beautiful beach town with lots to see and do. The town is a short walk up the beach from the house with tons of great restaurants and coffee shops. Rik was not here for our trip, but Kata was and she was the best hostess ever! Even answered her door at 11:00 pm when we had a question! So sweet and helpful, and her shop in town-Papaya Con Leche is a must see! They make their own shoes and swimsuits! Rik’s helpful notes before the trip and at the house were extremely helpful. The house is just steps from the ocean. The beach near the house is never crowded which is so wonderful! The house was perfect for my family of 4. Air conditioning in the bedrooms was great! Beds were super comfortable, and bathrooms are a great size. Iranian did our laundry for $10 and had it folded nicely on the bed when we returned for the day. Lots of great toys to use like boogie boards and surfboards. We rented a car, but you really wouldn’t need to do that if you didn’t have any need to leave the area. There are taxis you can take all around town if you wanted to get a ride back to the house instead of walking. Thanks, Rik and Kata for opening your home to us and making our stay perfect!

Lael and Family: Thank you so very much for your kind words regarding the House and how the Team took good care of you. Unfortunately, during your stay I was in the States dealing with the passing of my beloved Mom. Although that was extremely difficult for me personally, it is comforting to know that Kata, Irania, and rest of the Team took good care of you in my absence. Wow

I don't know if there is a way to summarize an experience like the one we had at Casa de las Olas and Costa Rica in general. All I can say is that this has been a wonderful and adventurous first experience for me! Rik was an exceptional host and we thank him for sharing his beautiful property with us! He provided us with great information from start to finish. The food in the area was excellent! There wasn't a single restaurant we tried that we didn't like. The location of the house is amazing! The ocean is right across the street with a beach access. Restaurants and activities are all within walking distance. This couldn't have been a more convenient location for the privacy and the price. I passed out in the hammock listening to the waves crash in the distance. The house has everything you need if you want to cook, forgot your soap, shampoo, or conditioner, or anything in between. We fully intended to cook while we were there, but ended up eating out a majority of the time because of the quality of the food in the area. There is a ton more that i probably forgot, but there isn't a single negative remark to be had! Thank you so much for your hospitality Rik! We hope to stay again in the future!
