Whale’s Tail Cottage - Meredith Lodging

With its unparalleled location on the sand in front of Pacific City’s Haystack Rock, Whale’s Tail Cottage will bring your guests incredible memories of their stay at the beach. You can walk right out of the house to miles of sandy beach, surfers riding the waves, marvelous tide pools, challenging dunes to climb, and dory boats landing on the beach with their fresh catch. As if that weren’t enough, walking a short distance north on the sand lands you at the award-winning Pelican Pub or the upscale Meridian Restaurant!

The custom home itself is a special treat: with three bedrooms and three baths (including two primary suites, and one bedroom with ocean views), it’s perfect for teaming up with your besties for a stay at the beach. A beautifully appointed living room with a gas fireplace and ocean views is a terrific place to gather, and the dining table shares the ocean view. Even the pretty, retro farmhouse kitchen looks out to Haystack Rock over the sink, and it’s fully equipped for eating in.

A deck off the dining room invites you to sit back and watch world-class sunsets over the dunes and Haystack Rock. Great location, property just OK
We were very exciting pulling into the property and seeing the perfect oceanfront location. The property is right on the sand, with great access to the ocean and walkable to Pelican brewery (about a half mile up the sand). Plenty of kids toys. The cons were 1/ the smells - animal or other smell on all the bedding and sheets and carpets and 2/ hard-to-find dishwasher (this one was our fault!) - it was disguised as cabinetry. A note that says dishwasher on it may have helped. We paid quite a bit for the stay and it was quite a bit less nice than we thought from the pictures.

Precarious weather, flawless stay
We had a great stay, and excellent communication via text. There was a flooding storm that blocked roads getting to Pacific City. We were able to navigate to avoid the flooding, then the weather subsided, thankfully. Very thankful for easy and fast communication with Meridith Lodging.

Ideal getaway
Very nice and clean property with amazing view. All rooms, kitchen and living room were comfortable. Overall our stay was enjoyable and we recommend this place. Only suggestion is that it would be nice to have coffee and other basic spices available.

The location was perfect. The house had random toys out, a dirty rag in the living room, and many of the dishes were dirty. It was well equipped.

One for the bucket list !
It was amazing and a once in a lifetime experience for my family. The house has everything so well planned out for convenience and comfort. We loved playing in the sand and the view is to die for. The walk to the water was a little steep but that was expected in Oregon. If you are thinking about getting this property just do it.. It was so relaxing and soul filling.

AMAZING!
This was my third year traveling to the coast, second year staying at Kiwanda shores, first year splurging for a house right on the beach. This home is BEAUTIFUL. I could wash dishes or prep food all day with the amazing view of the ocean. Each room is clean and comfortable—two of the rooms having their own bathroom which was a huge plus. On a moms trip, it’s nice to have your own space. Our last full day there, we were treated to whales in front the house for the majority of the morning and into the early afternoon! The house was well-stocked with plates, bowls, utensils, towels, blankets, etc. The one thing we wish we had were more containers with covers or ziploc bags to store cut up fruits, veggies, and snacks. Our only hiccup was at check-in. The electronic code was not working BUT with a simple phone call to the number listed in the confirmation email, I was given a different code and we were in the house in a couple of minutes. Very simple and convenient. Thank you! I definitely recommend this home and will book again!

Home was beautiful, welcoming, comfortable, perfect.
Renting on Vrbo was easy. Meridian stayed on communication with me once at beginning, once during and now at check out. We the perfect amount of times. They made sure we got checked in fine.

Nice Home
The first thing that comes to mind is how clean the house is. We stay at a lot of beach houses and this is one of the cleanest. We also had great communication with the manager. I got the impression from the pictures that you walk right out to the ocean, but the house is actually on a sand berm and there is quite a drop down to the water. There is a good ocean view from the house, but you can’t actually see the ocean meet the shore. We stayed in March and the sand berm was about two feet higher than the deck.

Fun in the Sand
We enjoyed the experience of being right on the sand with direct access to the beach and state park. The view of Haystack rock and the surf was breath taking. We were given the improper code to open the house but after reaching the property manager the problem was resolved. We found the 5:00 check in time too late and suggest making it earlier.
