I prepaid AirBnB a required full payment for an 8 day rental. The day before the rental began, my wife and I drove from Tucson-LAX airport for the next morning Maui flight. During the car trip I started having awful symptoms much like a very bad virus. That entire night in the hotel I couldn't sleep at all due to violent non-stop coughing and sneezing. The next morning we went to the airport to catch our flight. While in the boarding area, one of the other passengers awaiting the same flight apparently approached the gate agent regarding my continuous sneezing and coughing obviously concerned that I may be boarding this flight with Covid-like symptoms. The agent told me that the airline would have to deny my boarding due to my apparent illness. I honored their request knowing that if I was a boarding passenger I wouldn't want to sit near someone with my symptoms for 6 hours in an airplane cabin. United Airlines was very appreciative of my concern for the other passengers and gave me credit for a future flight. Realizing there was no way to get to Maui in my condition in the near future, I started calling to cancel and/or reschedule all of my reservations related to this trip. Every vendor I spoke to was very helpful and understanding of the circumstances, except AirBnB and the Maui condo owner. I received credit back from all of the prepaid reservations I had (rental car, LA hotel return stay, parking, etc., except for the AirBnB Maui condo. I offered to reschedule the condo reservation for a future stay at the owner's convenience, but the owner refused. AirBnB would not give me the phone number of the owner so that I might talk to her directly. I would have had no problem paying a cancellation and rebooking fee, but AirBnB has kept the whole amount I pre-paid which includes cleaning fee of $300 and a service fee of $441. What service did AirBnB provide? Really?, a cleaning fee when I never got closer than 2,500 miles to the condo? AirBnB, you owe me answers!
