Spectacular views, near beaches

Come enjoy the spectacular ocean and mountain vistas sitting on the sun deck or in the spacious, comfortable, living room after exploring the many beautiful beaches and trails near by. Our home was lovingly constructed by my husband John, who is a custom home builder and designer, using natural materials from our local area and a considerable amount of repurposed wood and brick.
We are fortunate to live in a quiet, spacious and serene place, surrounded by nine acres and beauty in the form of wildlife, trees, the Pacific Ocean, the Olympic mountains and an endless sky that lights up with countless stars on clear nights.
Cairn, where you will stay, is attached to our house but completely separate and private. We are available if needed but we give guests complete privacy. Guests have their own private entry, parking space and deck.
Off seasons rates in effect from October to March.

Perfect as a point of departure for hiking, beaches, and all attractions in southern Vancouver Island. The hosts are exceptional, caring, and kind. The view from the grounds is as advertised. We enjoyed peace and quiet, and wonderful baked goods from our hostess.

Having previously stayed at another unit on the property, it was an easy decision to come back for a subsequent trip! The property is wonderfully situated near Sooke, making for easy day trips to either Victoria or Port Renfrew. The space itself is quiet and cozy, and makes for a lovely place to wind down the days. The view from the patio is also breathtaking and an excellent spot to have a morning coffee or tea. John and Janis are super communicative and excellent hosts!

John and Janis are fabulous hosts! So friendly, and the property has so many lovely little personal touches! The views are truly spectacular, and the space is both airy and open, and cozy and warm at the same time. Kitchen is well stocked with dishes for cooking simple meals, and the beds are very comfy.

Lovely country stay!

We had a great few days exploring the coast with this as our home base. Views from the bedrooms upstairs - wow!! This met our needs perfectly, and the kids loved all of the hidey holes for hide-and-seek :) Absolutely recommend stopping at Stoked in Shirley for wood fired pizza - take games or a book and be prepared for a good wait, but it is worth it. John and Janis were wonderful hosts, provided beach towels for our outing to the Sooke Potholes; Janis’s baked goods were phenomenal!

Stay at Otter Point

We stayed with our two adult children and enjoyed the fact that the house has lots of windows from which we could view the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Good proximity to beaches and to Sooke. Everything was pretty much as described in the property description

Just wonderful!

We spent three days at John’s and Janis‘ place and it was one of our best experiences! The furniture within the house is very cozy and the view is just exceptional!

Quiet place outside of Sooke

Overall, we had a great stay. The location is very quiet, about 10 minutes outside of Sooke. The description was accurate and worked well for our group (2 adults and 2 kids). The hosts were very helpful and quickly responded to all of our questions.

Lovely stay at beautiful location.

We had a wonderful stay. Greeted by John the gracious owner and welcomed with some fresh muffins baked by Janice. We were looking for a quiet holiday in a beautiful location. The house is big and very comfortable and very well stocked. The views are amazing across the strait and the fields in front of the house. Close to Sooke and Victoria as well as the beaches and forests to the west. Highly recommended!

Beautiful property - great hosts

We came here for a restful stay , for a location that was a home base for visiting family and friends and for amazing ocean views. This beautiful home delivered on all counts and the hosts were wonderful. I was born and raised in Cuba. John was born in Ireland. We have lived in Canada since we were very young. We met, married and raised our children on Saltspring Island and Vancouver Island.
We love to and have travelled extensively as a family and on our own but are always happy to return home.

We have 8.5 acres of pasture and treed land with gorgeous views of the ocean and Olympic mountains. There is a path all around the perimeter of our property for easy walking . You might even enjoy watching our neighbours’ llamas!
All four seasons have spectacular beauty to experience! From watching winter storms and kite surfers at Gordon’s Beach while sitting by a roaring fire to enjoying the beautiful scenery, walks and hikes all year long.

We chose this property to build our house for its expansive ocean and mountain views and quietude.
We wanted to build a home where we could feel peaceful, relaxed and at one with nature. Sitting by the big fireplace in the spacious 12 ft beamed ceiling living room watching and hearing nature through the large windows accomplishes that and more.
