If you are looking for a classic log cabin experience when you visit Mt Hood, the Bear Den Log Cabin is where you will want to stay. This rough-hewn log cabin is tucked away in the woods alongside Billy Creek. You can sit back on the creekside deck and relax to the sounds of the babbling brook flowing by and the soft breezes blowing through the trees. You will be far enough off the main road to enjoy peace and quiet, yet close enough to access Mt Hood recreation and activities in minutes.

Grill dinner on the Weber gas BBQ and eat out al fresco or gather around the dining table inside while enjoying a roaring fire in the rock fireplace in the vaulted great room.

This rustic log cabin is ideal for a couple on a romantic retreat or a small family vacation with two bedrooms (1 king, 1 queen) and the sofa bed in the loft plus two full bathrooms.

The location of this home is very private and beautiful, especially the creek and river being right behind it. We did enjoy hearing the river from the home with the windows open. However we were disappointed with the cleanliness inside. All dishes and cookware needed re washed before using. Strong mold smell in the downstairs bedroom and lots of spiders (dead and alive). We understand being in the woods calls for chance of more spiders but the amount of spider/cobwebs were surprising (even on headboard near pillows),especially since the house had been serviced the day of our arrival. Also, the upstairs shower head needs fixed (sprays everywhere). We wanted so badly to just make the best of it but we ended up leaving a day early.

Thank you for staying with us and for the review. I’m sorry your stay didn’t earn five stars and that you had some cleaning and home maintenance concerns. After your stay we had housekeeping inspect the home and they did find one spider and some cobwebs. They did a deep clean in those areas. They cleaned all cookware and inspected the downstairs for a mold odor. They reported back that there was a faint smell, so they worked to de-odorize that space. The maintenance team is also working on replacing the shower head. Thank you for calling out that the private location and the sound of the river were highlights. I apologize again that the cleanliness and condition of the home fell short. Thank you again for the feedback.

We had a very nice stay at the cabin. Great nature respite- especially loved that it was so close to the stream! Short drive to restaurants/groceries/wine! Check in/out was super easy & excellent communication with property manager.

Absolutely beautiful setting and a charming log cabin. Lots of space inside and a good location in Welches near Mt. Hood. The condition of the kitchen and beds was not great- as described in the other reviews. The property management company was very responsive and helpful when an issue came up but we would not stay here again.

This spot is just okay. It's managed by a rental company and you can tell there's not any heart put into it.For example, the kitchen supplies are old and dinged up, there wasn't any salt available (what rental doesn't have salt?!), and the games, books, etc. are old and falling apart. They have a generic binder for the rental that they place in all their rental homes so it wasn't unique to this spot at all (e.g. had hot tub instructions even though this rental doesn't have a hot tub). You can just tell that this is one of those rentals they don't care about upgrading at all.Also, the code they gave us didn't work when we first got there. Thankfully, they had it resolved within 20 minutes but it wasn't a great first impression.This spot is... meh. Great if you need a home base while being out skiing, hiking, etc. but not great if you want a cozy and fun experience with friends/family.

Great spot to stay in Welches!

Enjoyed our stay while we came up to have fun on the mountain. The house is tucked away with a serene view of the creek and feels in the forest, event though you are minutes from town in a neighborhood.

The home was clean, cozy, and thoughtfully prepared with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Best log cabin experience

Bear Den is a real log cabin with modern amenities, right next to a creek, close to the Salmon River, and a short drive to spectacular hiking. It is exactly what I wanted and more for a forest getaway. I’ll be staying here again and again.

Quiet getaway

We stayed a few nights and did some hiking around the area. The cabin is clean and surrounded by the sounds of birds and a babbling brook. The tvs only play dvds, no cable or streaming, next time i would bring my roku, but that was okay, we kept busy. It was lovely and I'd stay again.

A Sweet Escape

What a beautiful property! I was a little unsure because of some of the reviews but they were so few and far apart I figured maybe some people can’t be pleased and I was right! It’s a beautiful log cabin encapsulated by lush woods and a surprisingly rushing creek which we loved. The cabin is clean, spacious and functional. The first cabin I’ve wanted to return to again and again so we’ll be back!

Liked the location and the Cabin, for the most part. Only minus was there was an odd smell downstairs near the bathroom and the cabin is a bit out dated. We also had a very hard time sleeping the bed, I am guessing is pretty old and was very loud whenever my husband or I tried to roll over, it would wake us up.

The only thing that was not okej was the bedsofa, that has to be changed to something that you could sleep in. We were 5 persons but there was only beds for 4 persons. Otherwice it was verry good.!!!

Nice but...

It would have been great except for the dead animal smell in the downstairs bathroom. It reeked, and obviously this was known before the time we arrived. (Since it had been recently cleaned.) Since the smell was worse when the fan was on, I suggest that the owner/manager check out the vent: Wish they had elected to do that before we arrived.)

Bear's Den is the perfect mountain retreat!

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had three days to retreat to the mountain. From the get-go the property management was both professional and very accomodating to our needs. When we arrived we were delighted by Bear's Den perfect setting- in the beautiful forest, next to a stream. Opening the door to our retreat the Bear's Den delighttful theme was carried throughout the rooms. All amenities were within the immaculate home, ready to enjoy. We felt at home and enjoyed every day. THe staff was extremely helpful in directing us to sites and hikes to enjoy. Each day was an event. We would rate this mountain retreat a perfect 5.

Lovely location but needs some care and attention

The cabin's location on the creek is lovely with plenty of privacy and a beautiful native setting. The cabin itself is quite dated with aging appliances and furniture, not terribly comfortable beds and overall needs some attention. A number of lights were not working making the master bedroom and bath very dark and annoying. There are absolutely no staples in the kitchen, not even salt. The kitchen had adequate utensils and cookware but it was strangely organized with utensils scattered over three different drawers in different parts of the kitchen. It just feels like the property manager and/or owner just don't care about the guest experience which is a shame as it could be a great vacation spot. In addition, we had asked for a 2 hour early check in and was informed that would be an extra 50 fee which just seemed mean. We ended up leaving a day early.

Very disappointed with communication and cleanliness

We were very disappointed with our stay for several reasons. First, the cleanliness of the home was far below what we expected—there were areas that seemed like they hadn’t been cleaned at all. Additionally, the mattresses were extremely uncomfortable, including the pull-out bed, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep. To make matters worse, the host was extremely rude in their text messages, accusing us of bringing two dogs when we only had one, so this accusation was not only incorrect but also added unnecessary stress to our stay. The combination of uncleanliness, uncomfortable beds, and poor communication from the host made our experience far from enjoyable.

Pros: Location, privacy, high ceilings, truly a cabin in the woods. The creek running down hill in the back was nice. Cons: The house seems like it was once a well cared for family cabin and is now more of an owned & managed rental property. It's bare bones and pretty dirty. There were cobwebs everywhere and while one would understandably expect some signs of the woods (bugs, modest cobwebs, etc.), this place seemed like it hadn't been properly cleaned in a while. Maybe they cleaned after the last guest and a while had since passed. I put my hand through a cobweb to flip on the light in the laundry room so clearly someone hadn't been in there for a while. There was a black fly infestation. We killed 30 large black house flies the first night, literally one every 15 minutes. Not to mention the 6-10 dead ones that were scattered about on the carpet and counters when we arrived. We almost left early. The upstairs bed was very loud and firm. Any movement whatsoever made loud squeaks. The shower head in the upstairs shower badly needs replacement as it sprayed out in every direction. Simply put, we would not rent this cabin again.

Not a dream cabin

The neighborhood was surprising, discarded furniture rotting on the property next to us. Garbage piled.Feels like entering a hoarding zone. Not the best first impression and the beauty of the nature doesn't make up for everything. The house was not clean, clearly only what is visible upon entering was taken care of: general surfaces and vacuuming... maybe. I have picture of a lazy susan that would make you vomit, the stove had burnt encrusted food. One burner didn't work, my husband had to fix it. There is rust all around the refrigerator, the dishwasher was full of clean dishes we had to put away upon arrival. The stove is older than my daughters who are in their thirties, the fridge likely as well. The fireplace is not working very well, the games are all mixed up, for example the Scrabble had pieces from 3 different games all mixed up. The sheets smelled questionable. There are so many rules to follow you feel as if you are in boot camp for the military. The list of garbage not allowed in the garbage disposal should show what is allowed, not what is not, it would be much shorter. If garbage disposal is not a good option for the environment, just remove it. We found out, after reading endless rules posted all around the house that if we arrive on a Wednesday evening we are to hall the recycling left during the previous week to the top of the driveway. We didn't, we saw the rule the next day. The sofa are completely dead, you cannot get up from them. Never again.

Bear Den Cabin

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay again. However, with attention to a few details(replace worn-out coffeemaker, thorough dusting of logs, disposal of previous guests’ cigarette butts, replace rusted kitchen sink and broken kitchen light fixtures, replace electrical outlets that no longer hold cords, clean up mouse poop in cabinets and closets) this could really be a first class property.

Great time

It seems like an older property, the kitchen appliances are old, not all dimmer switches seemed to dim and were just on/off switches. Dust in between the logs, not sure what you could've done about that, but I do have dust allergies.
