Welcome to Pohutukawa Farm, a peaceful coastal escape nestled on a lifestyle block above the calm waters of the Māpua Inlet. This private, self-contained apartment offers a gentle mix of comfort, quiet lux, and connection to nature—just a short drive from the vibrant village of Māpua.

Flooded with natural light, the space is designed with intention—soft textures, thoughtful details, and sweeping views over the land and inlet. The fully equipped kitchen features gas hobs and everything you need to cook and share a beautiful meal—it’s a space made with food lovers in mind. Outdoors, there’s a barbecue area and room to dine alfresco, perfect for slow evenings and summer feasts.

After dinner, soak in your private bath under the stars, or unwind beside the outdoor fire as evening settles in.

When the tide is full, take a kayak out for a peaceful paddle on the inlet, or hop on one of our modern vintage-style bikes and cruise into the village to explore the local cafés, galleries, and coastal trails. While the pōhutukawa trees greet you further up the driveway, you’ll still be immersed in birdsong, sea breezes, and the slow rhythm of the land.

The apartment features two elevated mezzanine sleeping spaces—one accessed by a wooden and steel staircase, the other by a steel stair. While both offer cosy, light-filled nooks, they may not be suitable for elderly guests or very young children.

It’s a place to pause, breathe deeply, and feel truly at ease.

You’ll find a container of magnesium bath salts beside the outdoor bath—feel free to sprinkle in a generous handful and soak under the stars.

There’s a small herb garden you’re welcome to use—perfect for adding a fresh touch to your cooking.

We’ve stocked plenty of firewood, and everything you’ll need to get the outdoor fire going for cosy evenings outside.

You’ll also find quality linen, eco-conscious products, and a few thoughtful extras to make your stay feel relaxed, comfortable, and just a little bit special.

We love seeing our guests enjoy themselves—make yourself at home and have a great time!

Beautiful place to stay in

Our family stopped at this place for couple nights. We liked it overall - it is very new apartment with everything you might need. Hosts are great.Several things to keep in mind:- there are steep stairs for one of the beds;- other stairs are hard metal, so slippers are recommended;- couch in the living room can accommodate one kid sleeping.

Fabulous!

I booked this for a birthday get-together with girlfriends and it did not disappoint. Fabulous place, stunning views and location, and excellent, friendly and very helpful hosts. Definitely an A plus effort! Loved all the thoughtful little touches, the unique venue and the adorable doggos! Unreservedly recommended.

Perfect spot!

We can’t say enough about how delightful our stay was at Pohutukawa Farm. The space was fantastic and the sunrises and sunsets were some of the best we’ve seen. We enjoyed the privacy, the wonderful design touches, and the location was perfect for our visit to the area. And the friendly sheep was a fun visitor. Lisa was a terrific host!

Divine view! fire fun! exceptional quality!

Relax and unwind from normal life at this exceptional retreat. Why not take an outside bath and enjoy your breakfast, while watching the sun on the distant mountains. Bike into lovely Mapua and explore by car the vineyards, beaches and surrounds. Attention to detail and special treats made us feel truly special, thank you so much.

Perfect weekend getaway.

Modern, clean, tidy & funky home away from home. Everything needed was there and considered by the owners. Great view and amazing to sit in front of the open fire outside into the evening with a nice wine and watch the tide come in up the estuary. Kitchen decked out for foodies, fantastic. Lucky we were able to take our dog too. Lisa's communication is next level without being too much. We'll definitely recommend to friends.

Private and quiet, we spent a birthday weekend with the pups and had an amazing stay. Lisa is super friendly and welcomed us warmly when we arrived. Private carparking, BBQ pit with charcoal, firewood, outdoor fireplace, TV in living area and in the mezzanine bedroom, and the level of detail in the place shows it was brilliantly thought out for the comfort of guests. Safety foam on low headway areas. There was even a lamb outside who was very friendly and polite. 6/5 stars!

Five star stay , Highly Recommend

We had a wonderful and relaxing stay at Lisa’s place. She is a very welcoming and accommodating Host who is quick to respond to any questions. The place looks exactly like it does in the pictures, but the stunning views of the Waimea inlet over their farmland, chic apartment and outdoor living far exceed your expectations once there! If you are someone who like to self-cater, you’ll especially enjoy cooking in this kitchen. It is well designed and everything you need is supplied. There are even fresh eggs if the free roaming chickens have been obliging! The bathroom is very clean and there is plenty of hot water with good pressure. The outdoor bath is also good for a soak at the end of the day and quick to fill. There are a lot of nice personal touches in the apartment as well, fresh cut flowers, crystal drinking glasses and quality furnishings which adds a touch of luxury to your stay. We took our 2 dogs with us, and they loved it there as well. There is plenty of parking available at the door and it is a 2 min drive to the state highway. Mapua Wharf and the local supermarket are a 5 min drive away We would highly recommend staying here.

I’m originally from the North Island, but I’ve called this beautiful corner of the South home for over 30 years. Owen and I live on what’s been our family property for decades – a place filled with memories, connection, and now, shared moments with our guests.

Hosting is something I genuinely love. There’s something really special about preparing a space with care and then watching others relax into it. It’s not just about providing a place to stay – it’s about creating a feeling. Welcome to Pōhutukawa Farm – a peaceful spot nestled above the Waimea Inlet, where big skies meet rolling green, and the views stretch all the way to the water’s edge. From sunrise to golden hour, this place glows with natural beauty and calm.

What we love most about living here is how life slows down. Mornings start with birdsong and soft light over the inlet. Evenings are for wine on the deck, a soak in the outdoor tub, and watching the sky turn every shade of pastel. There’s a rhythm to this place that’s easy to fall into – quiet, grounded, and gently luxe.

The property is just a few minutes from the heart of Māpua, but it feels like a world of its own. We love the creative, down-to-earth energy of the village – the wharf, the wine bars, the coastal walks – all part of why we’ve stayed here for so long. It’s a place that gives back, and we’re grateful to share a little piece of it with you.
