Adequate, but needs work

This was a new listing. We needed a house because we were coming in to be with my dad as he was dying and we weren’t sure how long we would stay. The house itself is newly remodeled. It was in a lovely quiet neighborhood. It was an acceptable rental. First, we were told it would be ready by 4pm. We arrived at the house around 6pm to find three people there, still cleaning. They couldn’t get a shelf in the refrigerator to go in properly and I was able to fix it by turning it around. Then, we found other things undone, so started cleaning as we went. There were still wood shavings in the drawers and cupboards. The shelves in the bathroom medicine chest were dirty. The dishes in the dishwasher were dirty and the chopping/slicing knives in the drawer were dirty. There was a used pod in the Keurig. We cleaned up broken glass in the driveway. There were no towels/bath mats put out in the bathrooms. We found detritus under the furniture and a water bottle under one of the beds. The pots and pans were small and there were no lids. Making a stir-fry, a pot of rice or anything else healthy would have been difficult. The dinnerware, coffee mugs and flatware were mis-matched, but there was not enough of any dishes/glassware to have more than one meal for a larger family without having to run a less than half-full dishwasher. There were no juice glasses or wine glasses. I was told it probably would not happen while we were there. We had paid for 8 nights, so I was surprised no one could even run by a thrift store and get a few things. The furniture was comfortable, but the bare minimum. There was nowhere to set down a glass if you sat on the couch in the living room. The TV in the master was set up on a plastic folding chair and the “desk” that held the TV in the second bedroom was a plastic folding table. There was a small RV parked in the back yard blocking the view from the kitchen and dining room windows. There are no screens on any of the windows, so if you want any fresh air, you risk getting every last mosquito and fly in the place. The wi-fi security key we were provided was incorrect and we had to figure it out ourselves. The woman who was in charge of managing the rental was very nice, but clearly was given no authority to take care of guests. I certainly don’t fault her. We asked for a small discount since we had to do our own cleaning. We were basically told that if the owner didn’t authorize her to get the things we lacked or a discount,
