This was one of the best houses I have ever stayed at on the island. The place was super clean, and in great shape. the elevator was a big plus for our handicap dad and injured brother. The only minimal complaint i have is the shower heads are not effective in wetting a person LOLWe loved how all the light switches and other things were labeled. We did not get in the pool due to temperatures, but the hot tub was a welcome amenity after a long day of fishing. I would give a 6 star if available

Pelican Point 2023

Beautiful home in a quiet neighborhood & just a short walk to the beach. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, bakeware, etc. We also enjoyed the pool, it was great to cool off in after the beach.

Fabulous vacation.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to your home. We were able to spend quality time with our entire family to celebrate Thanksgiving since we live in different parts of the country. The home was thoroughly stocked with all the equipment necessary for cooking and playing to entertain a family of 12. We were able to take long walks to the beach and play games outdoors. We often had to reset the Wi-Fi for some reason as it kept turning off on us. This was not a problem for some of us, but our millennials & X-Gens can't be without their internet access and did find that frustrating. Your home is beautiful and we hope to be able to return for a longer stay next time. Thank you.

Beautiful House Needs more information up front

We stayed at the house the first week in April. This is the second VRBO we have rented. The house is beautiful and well laid out for a large family. We had a great time, the house was clean and although linen and towels are provided the sheets are scratchy (we washed them a few times and added fabric softener, after we went to the store, which helped a little) and you will need to make the beds yourself. Both HVAC units broke on our 2nd day. We called the rental office and they sent out repair guys same day. Parts had to be ordered so the units could not be fixed. We had AC upstairs only and if we switched back to heat the units would shut off and we could not use them. The HVAC repairman told us not to bother calling if the units shut down because there was nothing else they could do without the parts. The last 2 days were cold and the temperature in the house was 63 degrees which was not very pleasant especially with 2 toddlers. The rental agency does not provide any information up front which was contrary to our experience with other rentals. I had to call to find out the check in procedure as my email inquiry went un-answered. You should be aware that no basic supplies are provided which would have been good to know up front since we traveled from Wisconsin that includes NO toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, hand soap or dishwasher soap. The trash cans had no bags in them so upon arrival an immediate trip to the grocery store was required so we could use the restrooms and trash cans. If you cook you may want to bring a cutting board and sharp knives, the cutting boards are tempered glass and the knives are horribly dull. The WiFi cut out several times during the week requiring us to restart and we never could figure out how to use the sound bar. Overall, the location is beautiful, the house is clean and has beautiful finishes. The rental agency could do a better job communicating up front on what is supplied and check in procedures. Yes, we would rent this house again and in the future we will inquire ahead of time on the particulars.

I would like to take this time to apologize for the concerns that you have listed in your review. First, I thoroughly apologize for the broken HVAC system, unfortunately, we have no control over things breaking, however, we always try our best to find a solution to the problem so thank you, Kristi, for being so cooperative and understanding of the dysfunction. I also would like to apologize for the lack of communication that you received from the rental agency. Lastly, Although our kitchens are fully equipped, we do not supply toiletries, food or paper products in our units. We do however provide one roll of paper towel, a roll of tissue paper and one dishwasher detergent to get you started :) Thank you Kristi, we hope to 'SEA' you again!

Great Trip!

We had an awesome time at the Pelican Post! The kitchen was nice and spacious and well stocked with everything we needed to cook all weekend! The walk to the beach was quick, and we enjoyed using both the pool and hot tub in October! The pool needed to be cleaned when we arrived, and the host promptly sent the cleaning service over. We would definitely book again!

Very Nice

We had a great time while at the rental. Short walk to the beach and slough on the intercoastal side. House was well stocked for cooking. Elevator was nice for getting luggage and supplies to where it was needed. Overall the listing was very accuate and would be very willing to book again. Thank you

We will be staying again!

We came for a long weekend with four families. Kids ranged from 1 to 9 years old and the house accommodated everyone very well. We were nervous about the short walk to the beach but it really is short. One black to the end of the road and two blocks up to the beach. The intersection is right at a beach access. All the kids made it without any problem. The house was very clean and had everything we needed to cook meals.

Quiet family beach home

This home was perfect for our extended family vacation. We had a party of 15 and this layout was great - 8 adults and 7 kids ages 2-16. There were enough bedrooms and baths for all 4 adult couples, the older kids had their own space, and some littles stayed with their parents. Pros: The home itself was very clean. There were plenty of children’s books a few board type games stored in the tv console. Decks in front and back made for great outdoor conversation areas. View of the marsh were beautiful 30 second drive to the beach or 3 min walk, very close but no views Beach was clean and not crowded, soft sand (not rocky) There’s a large grocery store about 15 mins from the house for essentials and groceries Cons: Pool is smaller than we expected. I’m avg height for a woman and could only swim about 3 full stokes before hitting the other end. Max 4-5 small kiddos but 2-3 adults for “hanging out” not so much swimming..the pool cleaning schedule is supposed to be Tues and Thurs but they only came out on Tues. the trash bin was completely full at check in, which wasn’t too bad since we checked in on Mon evening and pick up was on Wed. Recycling was also full at check in and was scheduled for pick up after our check out so it piled up a bit. Oak Island itself doesn’t have much going on...we drove 1hr 15 mins to Mrtyle beach for an arcade and bumper cars on a rainy day. Overall it was a great stay.

Thank you for your kind words! We are happy the home was comfortable for your entire family. Many properties put in pools for the after beach experience. Sometimes it is just nice after a long day at the beach. They are usually not meant for laps. It can also be great entertainment for the kiddos or adults to hang out after the kiddos go to bed. We are a quiet little island with a mini-golf course and a splash pad for entertainment. Also, a variety of ice cream everywhere. We feel fortunate that our guests have the option to visit a large oceanfront community that has exploded with entertainment and shopping. This allows you to come back to our quiet beaches and a slower pace of life to relax while you are on vacation. We hope you bring your family back to SEA us really soon!

Beautiful house, very clean

Washer didn’t work, and was offered use of their Better Beach commercial laundry. Would have had to spend our own money and lose a day of vacation. Returned with week of dirty laundry for sixteen people! Offered $200 refund, not enough for what we paid! Felt like we got a lot of “lip service”.

No ocean view. No clean pool. No air conditioning. No customer service.

When we first arrived there were no towels. Pools weren’t cleaned. House is not ocean view despite the information. Air conditiong was not working so we did not have cool air for 3 days. The rental agents said they sent someone but obviously before i left it was not working. Pool was still dirty. Despite all the negative things about the house i enjoyed staying at oak island. Not because the house but because i enjoyed the time spent with my family. And yes i did let them know all of this yet they didn’t care.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on our property 'Pelican's Post', as it is only through feedback such as yours that we are able to maintain and, where necessary, improve upon the service that we provide to our valued guests. I would like to take this time to apologize and address some of the concerns that you have listed in your review. The property you reserved is a 'Beach Walk' property, meaning that there is a public beach access at the end of the street that the home is on but not ocean views from the property. Better Beach Rentals also apologizes for the linens not being in the unit at the time of your arrival.The moment you notified the office of the mishap, housekeeping brought the linens down as soon as possible. As pool maintenance is an easy fix, in the future we would appreciate a phone call to report any problems during a stay so we can immediately remedy the situation to assure the best possible visit for our guests. Lastly, I would like to apologize for the air conditioner issues that you encountered during your stay. According to our reservation notes, our HVAC vendor came out to the property on 2/24/2018 and were told that the air conditioner was working, therefore; we were under the impression that the air conditioner was fully functional. Thank you again for your detailed review, Alexander. We will be sure to have all of these concerns fixed prior to the arrival of the next guest.
